Who Would You Throw Under The Bus? -- February 17, 2008
Feb 17, 2008 | 10:11PM | report this

All around the world of sports, there is no shortage of figures that just totally #### you off. I know I have a few. Here is your forum for venting by throwing the object of your ire Under The Bus (Jerome Bettis Limited Edition 850 hp version). The figure could be a player (or race car driver), team, executive, owner, league, commissioner, or fans of teams/drivers.

NASCAR

Juan Pablo Montoya: this genius wrecked Clint Bowyer for NO reason when Bowyer was leading the Daytona 500 late in the race. He punted Bowyer, causing him to spin out and taking him from first to 24th place, thereby costing Bowyer a possible Daytona 500 win. I got my Schadenfreude later when Montoya went backwards at the next restart and got freight trained. He ended up 32nd. (Ha ha!) I'll give Clint Bowyer the keys to the Bus that I'll throw Juan Pablo under.

David Ragan: normally, I wouldn't throw a driver under the bus for causing an accident, except in this case, he took out his teammate Matt Kenseth. Kenseth was running in the Top 5 at the time of the accident. I wonder if Ragan took lessons in causing accidents from Montoya, because if he did, he's a damn good student. Kenseth gets the keys to the Bus that Ragan is to be thrown under.

Jeff Burton: this pains me greatly to do so, as he is part of the RCR stable and is one of my favorite drivers. He had the Daytona 500 in his sights; all he had to do was get a good restart on the final caution. He had a horrendous restart that dropped him from first to 13th.

NBA

Devean George haters that are drinking Haterade: I give George's agent props for including a no-trade clause in his contract with the Mavericks. BECAUSE George has a no-trade clause, he has EVERY right to exercise it, and that he did when he learned he was going to be traded to the New Jersey Nets as part of the Jason Kidd deal. The Mavericks were DUMB to include a no-trade clause to a journeyman. And since WHEN does Kidd DESERVE to be on a contending team? He was on a New Jersey team that made the Finals in successive seasons in 2002 and 2003. He had his chance, and came up short. I throw the Devean George haters AND the Dallas Mavericks Under The Bus.

New York Knicks: enough said.

MLB

Bud Selig: where were his comments after the Clemens deposition hearing before the House Reform and Oversight Committee? Oh yeah, there were NONE. In baseball's darkest hour since the 1994 players' strike, Selig needed to be front and center and SHOW SOME LEADERSHIP. Oh yeah, he has no leadership. Since Selig became commissioner thanks to a coup d'etat, baseball has become a laughing stock. Under the bus goes Selig.

Roger Clemens: even by his standards, he has the largest ego in the history of baseball. He has backed himself into a corner that he may not be able to get out of. He came off as a greasy, sleazy liar.

NCAA BB

Kelvin Sampson: what is it with this guy and cell phones? And what is it with this guy and LYING about it? IF he had come up front and become accountable to his transgressions, perhaps he wouldn't be on the firing line at Indiana. It was a BAD match to begin with. IF he does get the ax, who takes over starting next season? Randy Wittman and Mike Woodson have both been mentioned. Kelvin Sampson therefore gets thrown Under The Bus.

NFL

Washington Redskins: Jim Zorn? Is that the BEST you can do? Little Lord Danny Boy has turned this once-proud franchise into a laughing stock. And why did you interview Gregg Williams FOUR times, only to ultimately WHACK him? WTF? Why didn't you do that the Monday AFTER the regular season ended?

Willie Gary (ex-Rams receiver): c'mon, Willie, DON'T cry sour grapes because your Rams couldn't get it done in Super Bowl 36. What's with this $100 MILLION lawsuit against the New England Patriots, Robert Kraft, and Bill Belichick? Just because you were a benchwarmer for the Rams, doesn't give you the right to clog up the judicial system further. Willie, shut up and know your freaking role. Under The Bus you go.

you missed Harvick for dumping Blaney in your list...but I'm sure that's just an oversight since I know you don't like RCR at all :P

you've got to be kidding me You didn't see the same race I saw. I like jeff burton ,but even he knew he was a sitting duck you can't do it by your self. Also JPM had no choice clint slowed because he got lose on the bottom and JPM was in a draft being pushed. everone admitted it wasn't his fault get over it.

Hooray for someone else throwing Harvick under the bus, although just one bus may not be good enough.

Let's have a look at the thought process here.

"I'm going into a corner on the bottom 4 wide, do I

a) bump draft the guy in front of me, which is stupid single file int a corner and vaguely homicidal 4 wide

b) Leave the car in front alone and carry on passing guys on the bottom

And the eejit picked a)!!

Oh, and while I'm at it he appears to have ESP - here's a quote from NASCAR.com's lap-by-lap from last night.

Lap 7 -- Kevin Harvick is off the pace and has radioed to his crew that something is wrong with his engine. He thinks it may blow up soon.

'soon'?? to me soon is closer than at least 193 laps, perhaps he's driving it to Fontana?

After comparing your "Under the bus" to my "Bottom 10" it's clear that we think an awful lot alike. That should be a scary thought for you, because I'm clearly demented these days . . .

Jon....Totally fun....but back up the bus. It is too soon for the Nascar bus roll out. Gas prices are too high to be wasting. Let's wait tell race 5 and run over a bunch at the same time.

You do realize we will have no drivers left for the Chase?

Let us pick the fans who know it all, we will strap them in and finally see if they really know what they are talking about.

Let's start with some of the blogger's. Now that would be an interesting list?

Jon - We been here before about Montoya, If you are throwing Montoya under the bus for his move Kevin Harvick is going too. Now on David Regan and Matt Kenseth someone was not talking to one of the drivers so it might have been a spotter for Regan?

Jeff Burton didnt have a chance if he did get a good restart they would have fraight train him, so he started slow, and the others were faster then him anyway. He didnt have a top 10 car it just was not pitting that got him in first, plus used tires.
He really had no chance or help.

Yes I will have a frame by frame and Yes Montoya still is the cause of most recks around him. lol

I am throwing Tony Eury Jr for not getting Jr to pit for tires. I don't think he would/could have won it but would have had a better finish. cheers

Hey Jon! I gotta throw Dale Earnhardt Jr's UNIFORM under the bus...the two tone split at the waist makes for a very unflattering look! What did they do to my hottie?!?! LOL

Throwing the Knicks under the bus is redundant. You can't throw someone under the bus when they set up residence under the bus. The Knicks are going to be terible for a long time, because Dolan is a fool. He's made the Knicks the NBA version of the Raiders.

BTW, who the F is Willie Gary? He played any games for the Rams that year? How could he be a backup reciever? It was Bruce, Holt, Hakim, Proehl. He was a special teamer at best. I hate the pats and their cheating selves, but you can't get robbed if you didn't play.

Thank you all for reading and commenting. I thought that Blaney checked up for some reason and Harvick had no room to evade him. Maybe I was a little hard on Jeff Burton, but his bad restart cost him the 500. Plus he had no drafting help. Kyle Busch had a great restart, plus he had Smoke right behind him.

John, either that, or thinking like evil geniuses!

Cboy, the 'Boys have suffered enough. Although Wade does have that "Dead Man Walking" look down pat.

Ed, that's a wotten smell!!! PEEEEEEEEEW!!!!

Forensic, with the old tires, Burton would have probably been passed anyway, regardless of the restart. He gambled by staying out and lost.

Hiya Kristen, I'd throw the uniform designer under the bus!! That looks HIDEOUS! Either go all white or all green. I'd go with the all green look.

I would throw David Stern under the bus. Kobe has already said he wants to play for the Lakers and the Olympic team before having surgery to repair his injured and painful finger. Won't he have a hard enough time and experience enough pain without having to play in a meaningless all-star game? I bet Stern wouldn't do his job with an injury like that. He would run off to the doctor and get fixed up before using his phone, or emailing anyone. Kobe is willing to play through the pain when it matters, but shouldn't have to do it in an exhibition game. Credit to Kobe for playing and avoiding suspension.

SHESH !! Buses are too gentle when it comes to NASCAR. Lets use a caravan of 18 wheelers at high speed. That should spread thing out a bit.

Tim Donaghy.....the man is not only a degenerate gambler but a jerk to others as well. His tantrums vs. his neighbors and other disgusting displays of behavior have me ready to drive the bus over him.

I can tell you were giddy at your chance to use shadenfreud in a post! LOL Good Word---I recently used it too, but it didn't have the effect I was looking for because nobody knew its meaning.

Bolt Backer 21, good nomination. If I were in Byron Scott's shoes, I'd have called a timeout after the first change of possession to sub for Kobe and give him the rest of the game off.

photogr, I may have to use 18-wheelers for NASCAR! Good idea!

Alaskanballa, I sure was giddy at using Schadenfreude, especially when Juan Pablo Montoya punted one of my favorite drivers, costing him a Daytona 500 win! Thanks to Lisa H for the word. And Tim Donaghy is a good nomination, although I would throw him under a fleet of buses going full speed.

Hey jon...

Kobe Bryant is the only player in the NBA with a specific no-trade clause in his contract, but league rules dictate that it's a right George also possesses because he's on a one-year contract (worth $2.4 million) and because Dallas would have Early Bird rights to re-sign him this summer at a higher salary that receives a salary cap exemption, should they desire to do so.

If such a player is traded, Bird rights are not traded with him. So league rules compensate for this by requiring George's consent in any trade. It's not as though Dallas offered a "no trade" clause to George, he simply qualifies for "Bird Clause" status in the NBA.

Throw the haters under the bus! I'm glad he shot down a silly trade.

Hey MidniteCowboy,

Thanks for reading and responding. I've heard of the Early Bird clause, but I wasn't aware of how it worked. Thanks for shining some light on this to me. I'm also glad he shot down that trade!! Good for him!

Hey Midnite, I've heard of the Early Bird clause, but was unaware of how exactly it worked. And good for Devean George to veto the trade!

Hey Jon... looks like you had some quite "spirited" comments this time. Can definitely tell NASCAR is in full force now :)

Ok, I'm going to throw someone under the bus this week only. This guy is very respected in my book, and I'm only throwing him under, but not backing up and running over him again. Mike Joy. He used the term "overdrive" instead of overtime, and the fact that he used it more than once, was just crazy. Even DW corrected him in a way and told the fans watching TV - that he meant it like overtime. Just bugged me.

That's it! Have a great week, sir.

Hiya Lori, thank you for reading and commenting. When Montoya punted Bowyer, that's when I went off. (I had picked Bowyer to win the Daytona 500) It's not the first time Montoya has cost an RCR driver a win. I'm waiting for Montoya to punt Burton and make it an RCR Triple Crown! As far as Mike Joy, I too hold him in high regard, and I think he meant overtime, but I think he got caught up in the excitement of the race.

And you have a great week, ma'am! *Tips hat and gives a slight bow*

Hey Big Daddy, thanks for reading and commenting. It boggles the mind as to why Hit-ler gets a bleep. I'll still be pi**ed at Montoya until either Harvick or Bowyer punt him late in a race and costs JPM a win. (Payback's a b***h, after all!) Since I may be going to the race at Sonoma, I hope either Harvick or Bowyer punt Montoya in front of me!

Coachlaffin, thanks! I'll be sure to check it out. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

ABOUT ME

jon_464
I am from Central California. I am passionate about sports, particularly the NFL and NASCAR. My favorite teams are: Panthers (NFL), Lakers (NBA), Flyers (NHL), and Dodgers (MLB). I am also a Kevin Harvick fan in NASCAR. I am a Fresno State honk. (I'll admit it!) And I am also a fan of MMA. Jackie Robinson to this day represents what is right about baseball. I also enjoy discussing the relevant (and sometimes irrelevant) issues of the day pertaining to sports. I will never understand why televised poker is so popular. Who wants to see a bunch of people sitting around a table, muttering to themselves? I do my best to keep politics out of my sports discussions. That is why I recently created a nonsports blog, cencalscribe.
