Who Would You Throw Under The Bus? -- Week 17 Edition
Dec 30, 2007 | 8:16PM | report this

NOTE: this blog will expand into other sports starting this week. You can still include your NFL nominees to throw Under The Bus, but I will open it up to the other sports as well. So if you have a team, player, coach, manager, team executive (including owner), that you want to vent about and throw Under The Bus, here is your forum to do so!

NFL

The 1972 Dolphins: how does it taste now, now that your record is ripped by the 2007 New England Patriots? No champagne popping this year! The Patriots just ripped your raison d'etre from you, so the next step is throwing your #### under the damn Bus!!

The 2007 Dolphins: if you guys hadn't stumbled and actually WON, we'd be talking about you going 0-16 and running the table in reverse. Today would have been a good day to make a statement and win two of your last three games. But you guys, in typical Dolphins fashion, went out and sucked. So under the Bus you go with the 1972 Dolphins.

Seattle Seahawks: you went 1-3 against a weakened NFC South this year? Ironically, your lone win against the division came against the eventual division champion (Tampa Bay) in Week ONE of the season. Meanwhile, Carolina went 4-0 against the NFC West. Yes, you're in the playoffs, but the NFC Worst is that, the worst division in football. And you LOST to the woeful Atlanta Falcons today? Your practice squad players should have beaten the Falcons! So Under The Bus you go!

New Orleans Saints: or more specifically, their special teams. WHY on God's Green Earth do you (or anyone else for that matter) PUNT to Devin Hester? So he can Hesterize you to the tune of TWO punt returns for TDs? I think Sean Payton threw P Steve Weatherford once under the Bus, so I'll pile on and throw Weatherford under the Bus again.

Detroit LLLLLLLLLLions: weak effort against the Pack. Enough said about this sorry team.

Those are my nominations for this week. Come in with your nominations. Thank you for reading and responding.

I'll throw...the teams that already locked up their playoff positions and sat starters: Dallas and Indy. The games meant little, except to the team that backed into the playoffs by playing half a team.

If you are expanding to other sports the first and foremost nominee has to be Isiah Thomas-never in the history of modern sport has a coach/GM so disgraced a once proud and honorable franchise. Then he has the nerve to BLAME THE FANS!!!! Sorry Isiah but the fans did not create this mess-you did!

I believe a mention should also go to Al Davis as long as I am commenting on disgracing proud franchises-DA RAIDERS lost 12 games for the third year in a row-only the third team in NFL history to accomplish this feat.

Slshusker-at least the Redskins did what you are supposed to do to second stringers-they thumped 'em. The Titans performance was a case of backing in with your transmission slipping.

Husker, I almost nominated Indy to be thrown under the bus, but backed off at the last minute.

Geminidream, I'd throw the WHOLE Knicks organization, from the owners on down, but there isn't a bus powerful enough to run them over. Al Davis also deserves a nod. The Titans were leaking oil big time and the engine was sputtering, but they made it to the end.

Thanks guys for visiting and commenting.

Hey jon,
I hate to keep throwing him under the bus but Clemens keeps showing up. This time NBC can join him under there. For 2 days this weekend NBC showed a golf skills competition with Roger and others. Every time he showed up they ran a ...Taped in November ... announcement under him. Feeling the notoriety the dropped the ball and tried to look for excuses. Classless!

"Seattle Seahawks: you went 1-3 against a weakened NFC South this year?"

Oh boy, here we go. Gee, resting your starters and giving them essentially a bye week (or at least half of one). A game where even the Pro Bowlers on D were clearly going half-speed. A game that meant as much as the PRESEASON game against GB. This is indicative of anything? (somebody doesn't remember the Eagles costing themselves a SB cause they didn't rest McNabb).

Meanwhile the Panthers go 4-0 against the West. Congratulations. Meanwhile, as far as NFC "Worst" goes (who at least had a *.500* team in addition to its div winner) I'm sure the Browns would like to have that game back against the Cardinals. I'm sure the Steelers would too.

Where are the Bucs? Forget whom they played for just a sec. We're talking bigger picture here.

alsports, I noticed that. I was watching the Skins-Cowboys game on Sunday afternoon, so I didn't get to see Clemens' huge head hogging the screen.

Handler, then please explain the Hawks' 13-10 loss to the Panthers earlier this season, when they hadn't clinched the NFC West. And enjoy that title Bucs fan, because you won't be anywhere near the playoffs next year. Because the Seahawks are in the worst division in the NFL, they will still be in the playoffs for the next few years until the rest of that pathetic division catches up to them.

I am SO BAD for NOT including Jim Leyritz to be thrown under the bus!! He is the biggest #### to come along in a LONG time. If he were TRULY a stand-up guy, he would have pled guilty and accept whatever sentence the judge imposed. He is a COWARD. Typical athlete mentality: blaming others for what HE did. He was a big enough #### to drive drunk. But to drive drunk and cause a fatal accident? He ought to have the book thrown at him!!! What a putz!!

Let me pick one of your nominations, but ammend it. Detroit Lions.

Players? No.

Coaches? No.

William Clay Ford and Matt Millen? Yesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesye
syesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesy
esyesyesyesyes...... YES!!!

They continue to run this team into the ground, and BOTH NEED TO GO!!!!!!Of all draft pics last year, and free agency/trades, NO upgrades were made to the offensive line. Kevin Jones is a great running back, but he can only do so much with no blocking. Barry Sanders at least had Lomas Brown and Kevin Glover, both of whom he loved. When Ford realized Barry had good blockers, he acted quickly to get rid of them.

My bus fodder:

The New Orleans Saints: with playoff destiny in their own hands, they lay a colossal egg against the Eagles. Excusable, probably, with McNabb getting healthier - pass defense hasn't exactly been the Saints' forte. But to pinch off another stinker against the pathetic Bears and Captain Neckbeard when they still had a chance? Terrible.

Sean Payton: Throwing on second- and third-and-1, with your running back averaging 5+ yards a carry? Continuing to call slant-ins and other micro-short pass patterns when the Bears linemen were obviously sitting on those routes? Get out of your playcalling rut, coach.

Browns fans and others wailing about Dungy and the Colts: You had your chance. You lost to the Bengals. Let me repeat. The BENGALS. You should man up and admit that you didn't deserve the playoffs, rather than whine about how another team didn't help you out when it could have.

I HATE TO DO IT BUT IM THROWING JON464 UNDER THE BUS. YOU HAVE THE 72 DOLPHINS AT THE TOP OF THIS LIST PREMATURELY. I THOUGHT I READ SOMEWHERE YOU HAVE JACKSONVILLE UPSETTING THE PATS. IF THAT HAPPENS THE CHAMPAGNE BOTTLES STILL POP AND THE PATRIOTS WILL BE THE NEW 42 BEARS.

My picks:

Bill Belichick- cheated in week one and lead his annoying team to a record of 16-0.

The St. Louis Rams- A disappointing 3-13 after injuries struck. Supposedly a Wild Card team.

Eli Manning- Time to grow up pal! He is inconsistant in play and had his rear saved by the duo of Reuben and Brandon.

Brian Billick- How do you go from being a playoff team to a 5-11 team in one year?!?!?

Tony Romo- Didn't you learn when you invited Carrie Underwood and you sucked? And then you invite Jessica?????

Eric Mangini- You did a wonderful job leading your team to 4-12 this year. I couldn't have done better myself. You should have put Clemens in earlier.

If I keep going it will get annoying.

"Handler, then please explain the Hawks' 13-10 loss to the Panthers earlier this season, when they hadn't clinched the NFC West."

BLEEP happens, and btw, the Hawks DID in fact clinch the div title the week prior.

"Because the Seahawks are in the worst division in the NFL, they will still be in the playoffs for the next few years until the rest of that pathetic division catches up to them."

A couple of things

1)As said earlier, your Panthers went 4-0 vs the NFC West, and STILL couldn't get to .500, congrats...........

2)NFC West champs: strong over the last few years. Meanwhile no NFC South team has made the playoffs in consecutive years, which says the West has at least a strong team, while the South has Moe, Larry, Curly, and Shemp falling over each other. Oh BTW the South went 11-5 vs the West and was still only one game better (and the division champ was only .500 vs the West too)

Explain this to me: you salvage (sorta) your season by beating two div champs at the end of the year, and then you actually wanna dump on them for NOT beating Carolina? Must have really wanted that higher draft pick...............

Aren't still bitter about the NFC title game two years ago are you?

Blue, I can explain that as I dust the tire tracks off my shirt. I threw the 72 Fins because for every year since, they celebrated the last undefeated team to go down to defeat. And they have been whining about the Pats, Videogate, the Pats deserve an asterisk, etc. That's why I threw them under the bus. The Pats haven't gone down, yet. They WILL go down to Jacksonville and be remembered as a very good team that didn't win a championship. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. And yes, I am fair game!

Nflteen, I have the Pats losing to J-ville in the playoffs so we won't have to worry about the arrogant, insufferable Pats fans until next season.

Handler, the Hawks were a better team in that championship game. They were healthier, and more focused. I saw a few plays where there were FIVE players on Steve Smith. I always believe that you play the hand you're dealt with, and the Panthers had a bad hand. (The Cats were using a RB signed off the street as a feature RB) And the reason there is a different champion in the NFC South each year IS because a different team emerges each year. This year it was Tampa Bay's turn.

ABOUT ME

jon_464
I am from Central California. I am passionate about sports, particularly the NFL and NASCAR. My favorite teams are: Panthers (NFL), Lakers (NBA), Flyers (NHL), and Dodgers (MLB). I am also a Kevin Harvick fan in NASCAR. I am a Fresno State honk. (I'll admit it!) And I am also a fan of MMA. Jackie Robinson to this day represents what is right about baseball. I also enjoy discussing the relevant (and sometimes irrelevant) issues of the day pertaining to sports. I will never understand why televised poker is so popular. Who wants to see a bunch of people sitting around a table, muttering to themselves? I do my best to keep politics out of my sports discussions. That is why I recently created a nonsports blog, cencalscribe.
