NFL Free Agency Peiod = NFL False Hope Period
Mar 03, 2008 | 11:44AM | report this

Every off-season NFL fans are sent into a state of 'Player Acquisition Fanatical Frenzy' because they see their respective team acquire players that, on paper, look like they are the missing piece to a Super Bowl Run. To that I say, "slow down, breathe and don't drink all the championship kool-aid"; you can drink a little bit of it but most of it u should leave in the cellar and let it mature some more before re-opening

As a fan I use to fall into that frenzied player mindset but thru time I've learned that for the most part, players added during the off-season are only a small complimentary, albeit sometime effective, piece to a team; and if ur team doesn't have a strong base of players already and a solid-firm Draft philosophy, you'll be sitting at home during the playoffs watching another team succeed

(The Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos are a good example of teams that have made a  lot of noise during free-agency but continue to come up empty in the Vince Lombardi Trophy category)

So look at these added players with a bit of skepticism NFL fans, u don't really know until the first ball is drop kicked in week 1 of the regular season and even then u still might not know. It might take another 4 to 6 weeks until u properly evaluate if that free agent player ur team signed in March is really helping or hampering the overall team effort

And history has repeatedly told us that most of these free agent signings err on the side of disappointment; ur better off looking at ur teams 2nd and 3rd string players if u really want immediate help!
