Mark, I used to like you. I loved your enthusiasm, your will to win, and the support you gave your players. You were my favorite NBA owner, despite the fact that I'm a Spurs fan. And then you had to go and insult the city of San Antonio personally. You also disputed Jet's suspension when he obviously punched Finley in the jewels. If the roles were reversed you would have been screaming for a suspension, don't deny it. I think alot of people are in the same boat that I am, being former Cuban fans that turned when they saw your theatrics in this playoff season. What went wrong? What changed you? Why are you the person that you've become? I think you need to take a time-out and reflect on who you are and who you want to be. And you may want to think twice as to WHEN you call that time-out...
I never liked Cuban, I like the team, but I hate the owner.
Cuban is a loud mouth who walks around like he owns everything , point and case the last game in Miami he runs on the court (so the write up on this site says) after the game to #### to the ref's like he can do anything.
Im an NBA fan and i love to see STARs be born in the playoffs, but to see an owner like Mark Cuban disrespect the NBA and David Stern make fans like us turn to tune into soccer make a case for the obvious.... The guy is bad for the NBA...I would root for the MAVS but the simple fact that his coaches and players are turning into a jerk like him...I recall a series in which they played The SPURS and they got passed them with the refs bad calls....even Charles Barkley admitted it..I've been going to SPURS games since they were in the Hemisfair Arena and not once since moving to the Alamodome and then to the AT&T Center where the Spurs fans call out a referee in game 2 of the series against the Mavs...Games 3&4 were just as bad..The spurs could'nt touch the Mavs in the fourth quarters and you didnt see Peter Holt chasing the ref's down and calling out David Stern. No matter what he does, money is no object to him...He thinks he could do whatever he wants and get away with it...meanwhile, the TRUE fan's have to deal with it..At least the small market teams show some ClASS....and until people like mr cuban and his girls keep hurting the NBA...log me off as an nba fan.
Mark Cuban, is a Billion Dollar Fan. He says things that every fan at some point thought about their team. Because he is the owner shouldn't take away from the desire for his team to win.
He has done more for the sport than David Stern.
David Stern has only been looking at the financial aspect of the game. (i.e. trying to find the next Jordan) He hasn't done anything to improve the officiating, until Cuban came along.
The NBA is the only major sport where the players have no say so in punishment handed out to players.
Yes Terry should have been suspended for the Love Tap he gave Fin. With no buts about it. It was a punch thown, not a very hard one, maybe even more forearm then closed hand, but the intent of a punch was still there.
I would also like to add to that list of people in it for the financial gain and not for the love and better inprovements are those owners who have been owning clubs for years and not making refs accountable for mistakes. You can count on your hands who love the game. Not the ones who sit in their personnal sky boxes and look down on the real fans of the game. If there were more Cuban like owners in the league, you probably wouldn't have as many "mistakes."
Yeah he needs to tone down some of what he does or says sometime, but the NBA is better with him than without.

At some point Cuban has to realize he is not a player,he is not a coach, he is not a GM, he is not a ref,he is not the commsionar, he is only the owner of the team he pays the first three to #### for him. Honestly he should do what every other team owner does ... shut up and watch what you payed for, and if he doesn't like what he sees he can hire new players,he can get a new coach, he can get a new GM, he can rally support from other owners at there yearly meeting to try and make improvement rather than having this lone crazed SOB that acts like a ####.
Whether you love him or hate him Mark Cuban is good for the game. Taking a team as dismal as the Mavs were in the 90's to Championship contenders is a feat many sport cities only dream of. If more owners were more like Cuban than we wouldn't see the heartbreak of the Cleveland Browns when Art Moddell bolted to Baltimore or the old L.A. Clippers. Ask those fans how much they would love to have an owner who shows a little passion and commitment. I'm sure they would gladly trade Donald Sterling or Art Modell for a Mark Cuban. Hell the Browns as long as they have been in the league have never even been to the big one. Just imagine if he bought the Baltimore Orioles.
The Mark Cuban that a couple of you refer to as being "good for the game" is the Cuban I praised over the last several years. I loved everything about the guy. He's not the same person anymore and I'd like to know what happened.
Jay- I don't think anything has changed. He is still the owner that is pushing for a better NBA. I think it is just amplified now that the Mavs are in the Finals. People are seeing it, as him being arrogant or overstepping his boundries. All he is asking for is an explination and the NBA won't give him one. The NBA is expecting players, GMs, and Owners to stay in a box and not ask questions about possible discrepancies in the officiating. David Stern and Stu Jackson have yet to give anyone a reason. Why was Stack suspended or what did the officials see during Wade's 9.1 second street ball exhibition that didn't warrent him a possible offensive foul for pushing-off of Terry.
Most people may say that the NBA doesn't have to justify themselves to anybody, and if so that is wrong on so many levels. A good Commissioner would at least comment and not let it fall by the waste side like they are doing.
sisko... i agree with you whole-heartedly. At one time I respected his will to have make a winner in Dallas. But no more... His incessant whining about the officiating, when the Mavs have benefitted more than any other team this postseason from QUESTIONABLE CALLS down the Stretch of CLOSE GAMES (see my recent Post on Spurs series recap)-- makes me sick!! His CLASSLESS attack on San Antonio (the Riverwalk has hosted THREE Championship parades Marky) only added to my dislike of him as a person. Cuban's a Big Kid who never learned how to handle not getting his way without throwing a temper tantrum. I would have loved to cheer on Avery and support the other Texas Team... but now I'd like nothing more than to see that dumbfounded "I can't believe we're about to blow another one..." look on Cube's smug face when the Heat CLOSE OUT THE MAVS in Big D.
I'm truly sorry JBinSA but you are sounding like a bitter Spurs fan. I think his comment on the riverwalk was a bad attempt at humor, what most people call "trash talking". I'm sure SA is a great city but you don't give "shout outs to your opposing team especially when they keep beating you in the playoffs. It's all in fun, and I'd rather see the Mavs and Cuban than another Detroit series. Also I did say whether you love him or hate him. How many NBA fans watched last years finals? Not many since it was one of the worst rated NBA championship series. Mark Cuban is to the NBA what Jerry Jones was to the NFL(and I hate the cowboys). Every sport needs someone to boo, he just happens to be a smart-wealthy-winner. So hate him if you must but if he wins his way a lot of people will have to eat a lot of crow.
This blogger is a New Yorker, born and raised. I'm a huge sports fan, following pretty much every major sport out there. Sadly, this does not include hockey, NASCAR, or boxing. Hockey lost my affection during the lockout, NASCAR is not a sport, and boxing has become incredibly boring since the dawn of MMA. If you want to talk football, baseball, basketball, or MMA, then I'm your man. I could also debate NASCAR with anyone, but we would probably end up just going around in circles...
