Interesting Thoughts In My Mind
Apr 26, 2006 | 9:19AM | report this

Here are some of this week's interesting thoughts that I've had:

Brett:  Thanks, but no thanks.  As I said before, I have much love for you.  You're one of my favorite players in the whole wide world of sports.  But who do you think you're kidding?  Jason Whitlock was on to something when we wrote that article about you.  You thought you could force the Pack's hand and make them release you.  But it didn't work, now, did it??  Then they tried to throw bait.. I mean, Arrington at you, to make you come back quicker.  But that didn't pan out well, either.  Everyone knows you're 28 TD's behind Marino for all time TDs.  Only a fool would be crazy enough to fall for that act you pulled.  Now you got a bunch of people who aren't so fond of you anymore, and could care less what you do this season.  I just hope you got it in you to show folks you still got a little bit of gas left in the tank (Speaking of gas left in the tank....never mind, I may get depressed)

Keith Hernandez-  What cave did you crawl out of?  Do you realize this is 2006?  You're a jerk.  Not many men would be offended by your comments, mainly because it doesn't have anything to do with them.  But if I saw you walking down the street, I would slap the taste out of your mouth.  I mean, what did you think the the#### was gonna do in the dugout?  Strip stark naked and cause a distraction to the players (although I'm sure most guys wouldn't mind it)?  Seriously.  Women in the 21st Century has jobs of all kinds, including laborers, doctors, and get this, sports journalists.  Please, take your wooden club and your, "I am man, women are inferior" attitude back to the Stone Age with Fred and Barney and have a nice life.

Ray Lewis- I already wasted my time on you before about your issues, so all I'm gonna say is SHUT UP!  No one cares that you want to roam the sidelines freely like you once used to.  Wanna know why?  Two reasons.  One, because you are an aging LB who is not the same as 4-5 years ago.  So based on that alone, you won't be as dominant as you have been in the past.  And second, most people know that this is about money more then about defensive scheme.  It's no secret that you are short on cash because of a pending civil suit, and need one last big payday in order to stay afloat.  I know it sounds harsh, but I'm just being honest.   The icing on the cake is when you told ESPN that you never asked to be traded.  Yet your team's owner, head coach and GM all have had interviews saying that you DID in fact asked to be traded.  If I were Ozzie, you'd have a 1st class ticket out of town.  But I'm not Ozzie and he won't do that, so we'll see how the season plays out.  Until then, please be quiet.

Ricky Williams-  People of the blogging world. Take a good look at Ricky Williams.  Ricky is a prime example of, "When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong".  He just can't get right.  I don't think anyone was surprised by this.  And I think it's safe to say that most people were beyond caring about it.  Personally, I think it's sad.  I'd do whatever I had to in order to stay clean if I were making millions of dollars.  Nothing would come in between me and my millions.  I would never participate in an episode of Fear Factor, because I'm afraid of heights,I can barely swim, and I'm NOT eating any damn bugs!  But if they were giving out millions to do it, I would seriously reconsider.  I may chew a tarantula or two if it guaranteed 7+ figures in my bank account.  Get right, Ricky!  Get right!

Reggie Bush- If Reggie didn't take an illegal substance or kill anyone during his time at USC, then why are we discussing his Heisman Trophy possibly being taken away from him?  I know the technical answer, but which is the lesser of two evils here?  The Bush family, or the NCAA?  All the money the NCAA gets through bowl games and other sponsors, yet you get mad because they move into a house that you assume they can't afford?  I can name a whole lot of people who live beyond their means everyday.  And with players who are projected superstars, you'd be surprised how much you can get on credit, just off of name alone.  Did anyone have this issue when LeBron's mamma went out and bought a Hummer that looked like she got it from Pimp My Ride?  I think not.  Leave the Bush family alone.  If it were your family, I'd love to see you turn it down.

Honorable Mentions-  Did anyone hear the NBA MVP songs that Mike and Mike came up with on their show?  Classics.  I couldn't stop laughing.  The Kobe song was the best, followed by the LeBron song and then the Nash song.  They need that to be an automatic download on ESPN.com.  They'd be surprised how many hits they would get.  Most of them would probably be from me because I'm corny, but I still thought it was funny.

Speaking of Mike and Mike, I really liked the whole Marriage Madness idea.  I was kinda jealous.   I wish I could've participated in the contest.  But since I'm married already, I'm gonna go out on the limb and assume that I wasn't eligible.    On second thought, I don't know how great of an idea that really would've been for my wedding.  I'm a Ravens fan and my husband's a Steelers fan..... Oil and water just doesn't mix.  Knowing our families, a fight would've broke out over who's the better safety: Polamalu, or Reed.

Sounds like some anger behind those issues. Nice style...

Ricky Williams takes the cake. What a ####. How many years of his NFL career does he plan to waste?

Love the line, "When keeping it real goes wrong."

Big fan of ESPN Radio, Mike and Mike, The Herd and Dan Patrick Show so anytime you work them in, it's golden.

Moore, how about this. I sent DP an e-mail the other day about the Reggie Bush deal. Well, I didn't know that he actually read my e-mail (4/24 show). I had 2 people tell me they heard it. Went to the show archives and heard it myself. I was so excited, like I won on the Price Is Right or something, even after he said my name wrong. I listen to all of them every day. Now I can say I was a part of it

That's a great story, certainly I'm jealous...next time, you should call in and put your husband on the line so he can "weigh-in" and get the free pair of Bill's Khaki's with the $100 bill in the front pocket--and then immediately hand over the $100 bucks to you.

Amen to your Ray Lewis comments. He can't claim that we wants a new contract and then say he wants to be traded cuz of the scheme. Its sad that a guy like him can go from "God like" status in Baltimore to what he is now. Its his own fault.

Love the anger and the humorous way of expressing it. I agree with you completely about the NCAA-Reggie Bush incident. I wrote a post about that very problem, I'd love it if you read what I wrote and tell me what you think, I'm a newbie here.

Thanks.

Do you think at any point before the season the Packers coach is going to sit Favre down and be like "Listen Brett, I like you, I love what you've done. But if you throw the ball like you did last year.... lets just leave it at that. Don't throw it, if there is any doubt in your mind of it being intercepted. Don't. Throw. It."

Cyrus, I would hope so, if it betters the team. My guess is they don't have the balls to actually do it

Great rants HH! Asking Ray to shut up is like asking Bonds to shut up. Ain't going to happen. Sigh, another year of crappy, in-fighting filled football awaits Ravens fans.

Hill good job. I actually wrote a post on the #### Piazza and no women in the dugout. Ricky Williams is Bi Polar and self medicates. It is very sad. So much talent and no direction given when he was younger to deal with his illness. He reminds me of Strawberry. Very Sad. Ray Lewis who? enough said. good Job again

Every time I see or hear Keith Hernandez I'm reminded of him when he was on Seinfeld.

To quote George from another Seinfeld episode "Hey Keith, the jerk store called and said that they are out of you"

Keith has never been known for his intelligence but this was a surprise that he said it, although not a shocker.

Good post.

Great post. I agree with you on almost all counts especially Ray Lewis and Keith Hernandez. I saw the Lewis interview and I was telling him to shut up through my TV. Good thing he didn't hear me. Hernandez was way out of line.
I only disagree with Ricky. I am more sympathetic towards him and feel that the NFL drug policy is way overblown. They are ridiculously tough and their policy does not reflect the norms that you see in society and in other pro sports. NFL players deserve the same right to privacy as the rest of us. Ricky kissed away millions and is a fool, but this could only happen in the NFL. Police officers, doctors, teachers, etc... are not subjected to what the NFL players are and to me that is unfair.

Hi Hill, I'm right with you on the Ricky Williams thing. As far as Reggie Bush and the Heisman goes, has there ever been a more bogus or manufactured "scandal" in the world of sports? Considering how many real scandals there are out there, this one doen't even register on the scale...

Brett Favre is also 23 Interceptions away from breaking Blanda's record for Most career INT's...

That's a mark he has a much greater chance of hitting than they 28(?) TD's he needs this year.

And once again your post has relevancy. I attacked a new issue that I found interesting, and while I agree with you about Ricky Williams, I have composed an argument for why I think he should return to the NFL once he is done serving his suspension. Check it out and tell me what you think!

i hate to brag, but i insisted when the dolphins were trying to get ricky williams back last summer that it was a stupid idea, and would eventually come back to bite them in the ####. still, nick saban believes ricky had a "false positive" and will do whatever he can to get williams back on the field in '07. if it was a false positive, i feel bad...kinda, but the easiest way to avoid a false positive for your 3rd suspension would have been to not get caught the first 2 times, but these guys are never smart enough to think of this stuff when they're high.
regarding reggie bush...the WORST thing that could happen, is what probably will. the ncaa most likely will punish USC, which, from what i udnerstand, had absolutely nothing to do with bush's family moving into a house they couldnt afford, didnt pay rent on, all in the hopes that reggie would hire the owner as his agent when he went pro. for the first time ever, i actually feel sympathy for USC.
cyrus-to answer the favre benching question...it'll never happen. holmgren didnt have the balls to do it, ray rhodes didnt have the brains to do it, and mike sherman was too much of a player's ####...i mean coach to do it. mccarthy isnt going to rock the boat in favre's swan song season.
wisc_vike- you may have just uncovered the 1 reason favre accepts, or asks to, be benched. i doubt he'll want to be remembered as #2 in TD passes, and #1 in interceptions. by the way, where is he on the fumbles list?

Great post. I wrote a post on Favre, I don't think the Pack wanted him to return. But they have no stones, and will never bench him. If Favre has 30 INTs halfway through the season, they need to bench him. But they won't.

Hernandez is a schmuck. If I was the Mets, I'd fire him.

Ray Lewis, I'm sure his problem. Just another victim of the Madden Curse.

Ricky dug his own grave in 04 when he left to smoke weed. This was bound to happen.

I think this whole thing with Bush is incredbily stupid. I've heard they could strip the Heisman, what????

Those songs on Mike and Mike were great, the marriage madness didn't do anything for me, but still a good show. Nice post.

sleepless- Hey, I've been under a HUGE rock. I guess hibernation is over for mr.

raerae- I think Ricky is Bi-Polar, too. He needs help.

Miller- I like a lot of people. LOL! Just something to write about, you know?!

brady- will do

rivjo- I wonder what it was. One report I saw said it was a type of herb, but not marijuana. What else could it be, though?

Hiccups- I started to add that picture of him on Seinfeld. That episode was hilarious!

Baked- The NCAA doesn't need the scandal, though. They have other battles they need to conquer. This isn't one of them.

Wis_Vik- WOW! New fact that I didn't know about. I'll have to keep an eye o that. Not that it matters. Didn't Nolan Ryan walk the most batters or have the most HRs hit against him? Great players usually have a downfall.

MrNFL- I know the Pack won't bench him. They don't want to be the culprits in the situation. I think both teams had their poker faces on and both folded

Good post hill. I can not say that I disagree on any counts. While rivjo feels Ricky's privacy is being violated, most jobs today have drug testing and yes as a teacher if I were found to test positive repeatedly, I can guarantee you I would lose my job. Ricky had plenty of chances to stay clean, and he blew it. He loves his "medicine" more than millions which shows just what an addict he is.

I think Favre will pass Marino this year, but I think the Woodson signing by Green Bay was a huge mistake.

hillhubbo30

socal- I do, too. Woodson is in no way the same Woodson of 4 years ago. If he's not playing safety, then he wouldn't be on my team, hinestly.

Good point about drug testing. I've heard that the NFL is a little strict on what's acceptable and waht's not. But I think we all know what he was smoking.. I mean, using

Don't kid yourselves, Ray Lewis is still the best middle linebacker in the NFL. I would be unhappy too if they were letting every tackle and gaurd get a piece of me. They need to free him up like they do in Chicago.

character was one thing the packers used to be able to claim they didnt have the same issues with as other teams (dallas, baltimore, minnesota for example), but lately they dont seem to care about that either. ahmad carroll, ahman green, and now charles woodson are just a few examples of how the packers no longer worry about what a player does off the field. they take a STRONG stance on javon walker, claiming 1 year of good stats does not warrant a huge pay increase (which i agree with), yet they sign an underachieving, overrated, injury prone, head case in woodson to a 7 year deal, worth potentially $52 million. brilliant..NOT. how i long for the days of ron wolf and his no nonsense approach to dealing with players, finances, and the draft.
