Cleaning House for '06

Okay folks.  As you know, the end of this contest is coming near.  And with me being out of the loop for so long, I gotta keep up with the rest of you creative folks to stay abreast to this contest (by-the-way, thanx to all who wrote my name for theie favoirte bloggers.  I hope you saw your name on mine, but I like everyone who is on my favorites list).  So, from here on out, anything that comes to mind, gets written about.  Hope it's not too watered down for you.

There are some things that have come to my attenetion that I feel like should be kept behind in the year 2005, and to start new traditions.  Some stuff is old, some stuff is new.  Feel free to leave me a comment on what you would like to see stay behind in '05.  So, here is a list of things that I don't like, that need a changing in 2006:

Pro Bowl Voting-  Okay, each year I look at the Pro Bowl selection show, and see a lot of names that are just for popularity.  Each year, I get sick of it.  Most of the voters either vote for a player on their favorite team, or people they already know, that has a name for themselves.  Nothing goes by actual performances anymore.  I'm tired of it.  Give these players a chance that deserve to go, no-names and rookies included.  As long as the fans vote, we will always see old, crusty, rusty players who are a shell of their former selves continue to be selected.  Change the voting and only have players that have had succesful years listed as candidates at their position, instead of naming every player at that position.

Ron Artest, Terrell Owens and the rest of the Peanut Gallery- These two are both prime examples of what happens when, "keeping it real goes wrong"(see Dave Chappelle for more info).  We both know the story behind these two, and none of us cares anymore.  It's spelled out loud and clear that both of these guys have some kind of issue in dealing with people, but I'm just sick of it.  I wish people like these two just get on a shuttle, move to Mars, and rule THAT planet.  They get no sympathy from me, or a lot of other people for that matter.  And to Ron, I still think you need to fire your barber and get a dictionary.  You's a damn fool for letting someone cut that illiteracy on the back of your head

The playoff system in the NFL-  Yes, I know I'm crazy.  I know that the playoff system is perfect the way it is right now.  But how many of you get sick of seeing bad teams go to the playoffs?  It should be some kind of rule against it.  I've hated watching the NFC playoffs for the previous 2 years.  This year will make the 3rd.  Mediocrity is hurting the NFL, folks.

The dress code in all sports-  I don't know about any of you, but I was happy to see the NBA bring in a dress code.  I know it doesn't change the man in the suit, but image is everything in this world.  If you look good, you change a person's whole persepective(as most of you know already).  Plus, if I gotta go to work in dress pants, a blouse and some pumps, then why not have the players dress up???  And they look really nice in their suits (my main reason for supporting this).

Men who think females know nothing about sports- I've mentioned this in a previous blog, and I know this is a prehistoric, unpopular topic, but to the guys out there that think they know everything about sports, know that there is at least one woman that knows just about as much as you.  Live with it, and move on.  It's not the end of the world that a woman knows a lot about sports.  After all, didn't a lot of you guys want us to learn about your favorite team?  Don't be mad when we start to know more about your favorite player then you do.

Females who THINK they know about sports-  What's sexier then a sexy woman?  A sexy woman who knows about sports.  What is un-sexy?  A sexy woman who thinks she knows about sports.  Listen, to all of you girls out there that want to act like you know what you are talking about, be an actual fan of the sport you are discussing.  Don't go online and look at stats the night before the Super Bowl or the World Series and think you're doing something.  If you can't discuss anything from the previous championships, then you are exposed.  Being exposed means that the guys you are trying to impress continue to believe that females (attractive ones in particular) don't know squat about sports.  You're feeding into the myth, ladies.  You're killing me.  Because I have to do your dirty work and prove them wrong.

The ESPN Sunday Night NFL crew-  If that same crew is on the Monday Night Football cast next year, then count me out as a spectator.  The worst group I have ever seen.  Theismann, Patrick and the other dude annoy me.  One guy thinks every team they see is a "good team", and the other 2 argue the entire night.  Not to mention one guy has the most annoying, high pitched voice I have ever heard.  Thank God for Sirius Radio!

The BCS Standings- Okay, so this year's Championship game is going to be one that most wanted to see, but the BCS system still sucks.  I really would like to see a playoff system to determine what team goes to each of the four major bowls.  And I know a lot of people were excited about this one, but let us not forget that a lot of people thought that Oklahoma-USC game was gonna be entertaining last year.   A 55-19 score was hardly entertaining.

Just some info for you, but from what I've heard, it sounds like you'll at least get your ESPN Sunday Night crew wish. It sounds like they'll be getting Al Michaels and only Theisman will be sticking around from the current horrendous crew

Hill,

You write some good articles. Being a Baltimorean, you may be interested in one of my articles regarding Baltimore Leadership studying the feasibility of bringing the NBA back to Charm City. Keep up the good work!

Bravo Hill. Very well done. Your takes on each of those categories mirror my own, I whole-heartedly agree.

Unfortunately there isn't much to do about the NFL. You always have to have an equal number of teams from each conference and the NFC will come back around. Remember when the AFC couldn't touch the NFC, well alright it may be a little hard to remember at first but a decade isn't real long is it?

One I agree with the most is the BCS, as most people seem to be. Scrap that crappy, #### up system and give the coaches, players, and most importantly the fans what they want to see, a playoff system. Do whatever you have to do to make it work. You won't lose money, you will get higher ratings than ever!

re: women who think they know sports

spot on hill, as usual. nothing is more frustrating than hearing a girl say "yeah i think that green bay team wins the Super Bowly because their something-back FAVRE (as in they pronounce it like it is spelled) should win one. and I think Matt LEINHEART will be a great player, hes kinda cute."
