My great grandmother grew up on the Cherokee reservation with Will Rogers (they were 2nd cousins). The woman that raised her walked the Trail of Tears. My great grandfather was the very first judge in Craig County, Oklahoma. My mom was born in Sapulpa.
I'm not sure why an NBA issue is on a Nascar site, unless it has something to do with OK overall. Frankly, I live in Spokane & could not care less about whether the Sonics are in Seattle, OK, or base camp Mars. The guy who wrote that, Scottradamus(spelling), about hillbillies was not from Seattle or even Washington. Scott is in the Air Force stationed at Tinker AFB Oklahoma. I think he said he's from Ohio or something like that. The guy has pushed the buttons of us Seattlites and has helped create a void of two AMERICAN cities here on these boards.
But we to have dealt with folks calling us tree-huggers and disloyal in Seattle. So all this stuff has gone both ways and I can't tell you who started it. At this point it doesn't matter to me anymore. The team I have grown up with and stood by, is pretty much gone. So you folks take care of them and don't get blackmailed into something that favors these NBA owners.

To me being angry at Oklahoma for what some rich does who bought the team. Is like invading Iraq because of something some power fanatic like Ben Laden (aka G. Bush Sr.'s employer) and the Al-Quida boys did to New York.
Make no sense to me that someone blasts Oklahoma because the fans in Seattle didn't want to pay good money to watch basketball live.
I have been a fanatical (aka fan) sports follower all my life and I have only attended a dozen games live. Too expensive and never could get seats that gave me a better view than TV.
I don't even want the Sonics but like many Oklahomans I'm sick of being called stupid or hillbilly or hick just because of where I live.
Oklahoma per square mile has or at least had at one time, more oil than Texas.
And Tinker AFB is in Midwest City, a suburb of Oklahoma City and one of the most important Air Force Bases in the USA. It is HUGE.
And one more thing. Look up Oklahoma's football record vs Texas football's record over the past 20 years head to head. We own the Red River Classic. Not bad for hicks.

Frankly, I never would have thought of the term "hillbilly" when searching for disparaging comments about Oklahomans.
Although being the home state of Garth Brooks, Reba McIntyre, Roy Clark, and Toby Keith didn't really advance the "non-hillbilly" argument.
Being the apparent home of just one more of those slimy dirtbag uber-rich sports team owners with no scruples or sense of civic responsibility or honor isn't something which should make Okies feel particularly proud. If there's any comment Seattle residents are making about Oklahoma, that's it. And while some of them will miss the Sonics, most will ultimately say you wanted the slimy dirtbag owner and his team, now you gotta live with the slimy dirtbag owner (and his team).

I would say there's very little difference, should the Goodyear plant have received millions in incentives to stay, and provided assurances to the leaders & citizenry of the city that it would stay, and then it turned out the Goodyear folks had been all along planning to move the plant to Seattle.
The owners of said Goodyear plant would be slimy dirtbags just the same as the Sonic's owners are slimy dirtbags.
Seattle's point to OK is, "enjoy your slimy dirtbag owners and their team" - and be careful what you wish for.

To me there is nothing better than a Fall day and a Sooner football game with my dad and sister. But I don't get all caught up in what others say. I read the post you mentioned and I have commented on it...tongue in cheek. I commented like a hillbilly because I find it funny that people think we talk that way and act that way. I laugh at it because I find it humorous to think that people still think that way about the south today. Especially Oklahoma.
