FANS HAVE BEEN SAYING IT, DRIVERS HAVE BEEN SAYING IT, SPORTSWRITERS HAVE BEEN SAYING. WHEN WILL HE START LISTENING? MAYBE WHEN THE GOOD LORD WRITES IT ON A TABLE OF STONE. RESERVING SLOTS FOR THE TOP 35 DRIVERS, DOES NOT WORK.
I READ AN ARTICLE THIS WEEK THAT SHOWED HOW IF YOU EXTENDED MICHAEL WALTRIPS AND DAVID RUITMANNS POINTS FROM THE RACES THAT THEY QUALIFIED FOR TO THE RACES THAT THEY HAD BETTER SPEEDS THEN CARS IN THE TOP 35, THEN DAVID WOULD HAVE FINISHED THE SEASON ABOUT 34TH OR 35TH AND MICHAEL WOULD HAVE FINISHED ABOUT 15TH.
MAYBE I AM AS DUMB AS A BOX OF ROCKS, BUT I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY YOU REWARD SOMEONE FOR SOMETHING THEY DID LAST YEAR, OR 10 YEARS AGO. I CAN SEE DOING THAT FOR THINGS LIKE THE BUD SHOOTOUT OR THE ALL-STAR RACE BECAUSE THESE RACES ARE SPECIAL TYPE RACES, BUT LETTING DALE JARRETT INTO 5 RACES LAST SEASON BECAUSE HE WON A CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE '90'S IS MORE THEN DUMB, AND BELIEVE ME I LIKE JARRETT AND WANTED TO SEE HIM RUN IN EVERY RACE. FACT IS MY WIFE QUIT WATCHING BECAUSE SHE NEVER KNEW IF JARRETT WAS RUNNING OR NOT.
AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF THIS WEEK NASCAR ALLOWED PENSKE TO TAKE BUSCH'S POINTS AND GIVE THEM TO THEIR NEW SUPER "WANNA BE" INORDER TO GET HIM IN THE FIRST 5 RACES. MAYBE WHEN YOU DON'T QUALIFY FOR THE FIRST 6 RACES YOU TRY TO GET INTO AND THEN FINISH IN THE MID 30'S WHEN YOU DO GET INTO A RACE, IT SHOULD BE TELLING YOU SOMETHING, LIKE "HEY BOY, YOU AIN'T READY FOR THIS."
I GUESS I SHOULD NOT HAVE TAKEN THIS OUT ON YOU GENTLE FOLKS, BUT I WAS ABOUT TO EXPLODE SO I WROTE IT ANYWAY. MAYBE SOMEONE WILL BOP MR. FRANCE UPSIDE THE HEAD HERE SOON AND WE WILL GET THIS CHANGED.

It's not as if the fans'll be entirely happy with this either. I'd read something recently where the points assigned to one of the Busch brothers would be assigned to someone else in order for them to qualify for specific races without having to undergo the usual supposedly unsundry position of having to qualify like others would have to. Is this a sport or is it about to become something even more comical by way of the stupidity of NASCAR's hierarchy ?
Instead of wanting to become relevant they're now making things up as they go along to suit their own needs. Have they learnt nothing as to the stupidity of the guys who've ran and ruined the sport of baseball ?

I think you made some good points Gunn. I also think the provisionals is something that should be dropped. It is old hat and ancient. If you can't qualify on speed, You should not be allowed to run.
YOUR ARE EXACTLY RIGHT AND THAT IS ONE OF THE POINTS IWS MAKING. SHOW UP ON FRIDAY, RUN FOR SPEED IF YOU ARE NOT ONE OF THE FASTEST 43, LOAD UP AND GO HOME.
WHAT YOU DID YESTERDAY IS HISTORY, WHAT YOU DO TOMORROW IS THE FUTURE, WHAT YOU DO TODAY IS WHAT COUNTS.
Gunaquat I am not sure a shot to the head would be enough to make Brian France awake from his fog.
I think the Florida sun has fried his tiny little rich brain.
When they started the top 35 it was a thing that was needed to keep fillers out of the race. But now that there are more than enough good teams I agree that this rule needs to be disposed of.
Gunaquat, good post. That p****d me off when I heard that Kurt Busch's points would go to Sam Hornish. Penske Racing has made a mockery of the champion's provisional. I'm in favor of ELIMINATING ENTIRELY the champion's provisional and letting the 43 fastest qualifiers run.
Gun like I said back a ways. The only way a team should be able to move points is if a # is changed.
If the team has the same car and # the points should stay there. I think it would be funny if Jimmy and Kurt both have problams in the Qual. and 125s at daytona and they both need the champs provisional. Kurt would have to sit. What would Penske think then. Smart move?
Gunny- I agree entirely, something must be done with the qualifying rules...like eliminate them!! Get rid of the top 35 and champs provisional (unless within the last 5 years maybe) and let the fastest 43 cars in. If the big guns miss the race than so be it!
They wont eliminate it entirely though...too much money behind it all. I do hope they change something.
As far as Penske goes, I can't fault him for using the rule to his advantage. Every other owner out there would do it too if they thought it would help their team. Its up to NASCAR to say no and change the rule...I know Kurt and his crew aren't thrilled to be relegated to the crappy garages for the first 5 races...
WE AGREE TOTALLY AND BELIEVE ME I DON'T BLAME PENSKE OR FAULT HIM. NASCAR WAS STUPID ENOUGH TO PUT IN THE LOOP HOLE SO THEY SHOULD ALL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT.
I REALLY THINK THAT THE ORGINAIL MR. FRANCE LIKE MR. WALTON IS ROLLING IN THEIR GRAVES WHEN THEY SEE WHAT THEIR KIDS HAVE TURNED THEIR DREAMS INTO.
HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY, YOU GETTING READY FOR THE NEXT WRITING CONTEST??
Gun - Looks like your fellow bloggers are in agreement here. The fastest 43 or go home. Even though I like Sam Hornish (I follow IRL too), I don't agree with trading the points between the teams. I know...it's legal in NASCAR rules, still doesn't seem right to me. On the other hand, Hornish would have qualified for a couple more races had the qualifing been the top 43 fastest this year.
NOT HORNISH'S FAULT HE JUST WORKS FOR THE GUY, AND THAT IS THE VERY REASON THIS #### NEED TO END. THE GUYS FOR MWR WOULD HAVE MADE IT TO MANY MORE RACES ALSO.
ALL WE CAN DO IT RAISE ENOUGH CAIN THAT ONE OF THE MAJOR NETWORKS MIGHT PICK IT UP, ARE YOU LISTENING FOX SPORTS.
I also agree. If you're not fast enough to make the top 43, then you sit out. But if you do that, there's always a chance that a big name sits out. Then the fans start complaining, big time sponsors, and car owners. Nascar is going to do whatever it takes to keep the big money in the sport.
