PITTSBURGH LANDS POTENTIAL MCDONALD'S ALL-AMERICAN
Jul 14, 2008 | 12:47PM | report this
Pittsburgh may have just landed its first McDonald's All-American in more than two decades.

Jamie Dixon and the Panthers, with the help of associate head coach Tom Herrion, may have nabbed one in power forward Dante Taylor.

The 6-foot-8 Taylor, out of National Christian (Md.), committed to Pittsburgh on Monday. Scout.com's Dave Telep was the first to report the news.

Taylor reminds me of Sam Young - with about two inches. He's athletic, he gets after it and he was terrific last week at the LeBron James Skills Academy.

Some of the other schools that were after Taylor were Kansas, Memphis, West Virginia, Syracuse and Villanova.

Pittsburgh has had four McDonald's All-Americans in its history - Brian Shorter and Bobby Martin in 1987, Jerome Lane in 1985 and Charles Smith in 1984.

Jeff,

Jamie Dixon's pick-up of Dante Taylor shows that Pittsburgh is still one of the elite college basketball programs. I'm sure this will help heal the wounds for Pitt Panther fans of losing Dixon's "first priority" -- McKeesport 7-footer Zeke Marshall to Keith Dambrot's Akron Zips. I feel great for both these fine coaches and gentlemen. Wouldn't it be great if Pitt and Akron could meet on the court over the next four years?
