Lute Olson said that it isn’t quite done, but
numerous sources indicate that Denver Nuggets assistant coach Mike Dunlap is
set to join Arizona as the associate head coach.
Olson confirmed to FOXSports.com that Dunlap is “going to come down and take a
look at Tucson this weekend.”
Dunlap has a terrific reputation in the industry and has been unable to land a
head college job. He met with the Chicago Bulls about their opening, but the
Bulls will likely go for a high-profile guy such as Phoenix Suns coach Mike D’Antoni.
Dunlap won two national titles at Metro State and can provide Olson with a veteran on the bench.
Olson also made it official earlier this week that Russ Pennell has also come
on board.
``He’s got the whole package,” Olson said of Pennell. “He can recruit, he
played for Eddie Sutton. He’s strong in all phases.”
Olson may not be done yet, though, as it appears imminent that Josh Pastner
will depart for Memphis.
