WAR BETWEEN PITINO AND CALIPARI WILL BEGIN
Apr 16, 2008 | 9:39AM | report this
Now that it's basically done with Travis Ford to Oklahoma State, the war between John Calipari and Rick Pitino will begin.

Last time around, Pitino won and got his guy, Travis Ford, the job.

This time Pitino will likely push his assistant, Steve Masiello, over Iona head coach Kevin Willard while Calipari will also have a choice to make:

Does he advocate current Memphis assistant Derek Kellogg or UTEP head coach Tony Barbee.

Both played at UMass.

Other names that could be in the mix are Pittsburgh assistant Tom Herrion, a former head coach at Charleston who grew up in Massachusetts; Villanova assistant Brett Gunning; and Quinnipiac head coach Tom Moore, who also grew up in the state.
