Martin Just Can't Make Up His Mind
Jul 05, 2008 | 7:01AM | report this
Mark Martin announced yesterday that he signed with the number 5 car at Hendrick Motorsports until 2011.  I think he is even unsure of what he wants to do.  After 2005, he was originally planning to leave the sport with Rusty Wallace.  Then, he decided to race another full year with Roush in 2006.  In 2007, he raced a part-time schedule with DEI.  This year he is continuing the part-time deal.  For the next two years, he is running full-time again.  All he does is switch back and forth between part-time and full-time.  He needs to either do one or the other.  I know he is a fitness maniac and very healthy, but I do not think a person his age should be running a whole season.  I highly doubt he will ever win a championship.  He is the Brett Favre of NASCAR.

On another topic, I think Dale Jr. should have spun out Kyle Busch last night in the Nationwide race as a payback from Richmond.  The hothead needs to be put in his place.

IMO, I think Martin should compete for a title as long as he's healthy and competitive. He's still competitive; he still has that fire in the belly that drives him. Good luck to him in the 5 next year.

The only reason why Mark Martin thinks he can race full-time is because he's been racing part-time. Put him back at full-time and he'll see that his 49 year old body can't take it.

jon464- He should compete only if he feels like he can win the Cup.

Bluesjzz2- Racing part-time helps his body prepare to endure a 36-race season.

I do wish Mark would make up his mind.....he's gonna retire...okay, one more season with Roush, okay, then he'll retire....okay, part-time with DEI, then he'll retire....okay, one more part-time with DEI...okay, now full-time with Hendrick....PLEASE make up your mind!! Probably one of the highest respected drivers out there, but I just hope that he doesn't regret this. I still think he should have retired when he left Roush, but not my decision. Good luck Mark, hate that you're driving for Hendrick!! Go #99 Carl Edwards, and #31 Jeff Burton!!

dsperformance- Lol good summary of the past three years for Martin lol.

When I look at it I almost sound like a little kid in the backseat of the car saying, "Are we there yet," except I'm saying, "You going to retire yet? You going to retire yet?" lol.

dsperformance- Mark probably isn't even sure what he really wants. I didn't mind it when he ran a part-time season.

tylerhead24- Mark is just dragging out what is eventually going to happen. He is just trying to put the word retire out of his head. His time to win a championship will never come.
