Florida. That was the $350 Answer. After the horrible beating Michigan took by USC, I came to think, if a team with 2 losses could just MANHANDLE UofM, I began to think, what could really happen. Now, I'm a big 10 fan at heart, but i'm very anti-osu. I'm a Miami fan that lives close to Ann Arbor Michigan. What's more to hate about OSU??? After the USC/UofM game, I decided to give my bookie a call. $50 on Florida, going 7:1. *yes, that's a straight up bet for those not in the betting world. that's why there's no spread* After the first 16 seconds of the game, I turned it off, thinking it was going to be a big mistake. I mean, what was Florida doing there? Good thing I checked it before I went to bed though, because that score, 41-14, was just so horrible. So I sit here and look at what transpired. Mich and OSU getting manhandled. I came to the conclusion, we have to have a playoff system. When the "best" team gets the #### kicked outta them like OSU did, and the "#3" ranked team gets the #### kicked outta them like Mich did, a playoff system will bring one thing, better matches. Now, I do think a weekend would've been better if it went something like UofM vs. OSU, Florida vs. Boise St./USC, but that's because i'm a FOOTBALL fan more than fan of those teams. When people are ranking the National Championship in the "dont bother to watch" category, somethings wrong.
No offense to Florida, they played a great game, and deserved to win, but I still feel Boise St. deserves 1/2 or all of the national title. They did everything asked of them. Went 13-0...undefeated... nobody beat them, period. Tell me why they wouldn't deserve it, but my question is, does anyone know where like, a possible "final rankings". I'd like to see something like this.
Michigan did NOT deserve to be in a rematch. Period. I'm wrong. Although I did say it should've been Boise State vs. Ohio State, I did fight for Michigan to be ranked ahead of Florida, but they couldn't even rout a Reggie Bush and Matt Leindhart less USC. Michigan played #### poor offense, and an even worse defense. They looked like a typical Michigan football team *Michigan, referring to the Detroit Lions*. I said that ranks 1-4 should've been OSU, Boise State, UofM, and FL, but I gues MI shouldn't have been up there. GOOD JOB BOISE STATE!
Well, it's that time again, seeing as Miami is in Toilet bowl #12 and definetely doesn't deserve to play, let's look at the upside. It'll come down to how the season will finish, by how they do against their first game, FSU.
Here is the key addition, well, more of promotion of Randy Shannon from defensive coordinator to Head Coach, although Miami is his Alma Mater, he will have to step up, and prove himself game 1 against FSU for the crowd, the students, and even the team to be behind him.
QB Controversy: not really to be honest, more of QB missing. Between wright and freeman, although positive, their td-int ratio is UNACCEPTABLE. Look for a possible boom in Freeman, but nothing special until the next generation. I'd look for Perrelli to become more mature this following season, and hopefully overtake wright and freeman, and as the "buckeye" said, I probably would trade a years salaray to bring back Ken Dorsey as QB.
RB problems: Well, it didn't help that our star RB had 66 carries before he was "unable to play" anymore due to reasons that... well, look at the name of my blog. Anyways, Miami is good at producing RB's to their fullest potential *see edge, frank gore, and willis mcgahee*.
Defense: Wow, their defense is pretty decent, especially in the secondary. The Phillips and merriweather will mature even more, and I guarantee you that kenny Phillips will just be a top draft pick, top heisman candidate, and he'll only be a junior next year!
Wide Recievers: Between their 3 WR this year, I don't know how it's going to pull out next year, but it'll be nice to see what Shannon does with this group. Hopefully a better QB will make a better team.
This team will mature, and not many people will graduate, look for them to pull off the 12-1 record, but not make it to the national championship.... Sorry guys.
I believe a lot of people who are looking at this "playoff picture" is forgetting one thing. These guys are students. It goes Collegiate, then athletic in the acronym. If you add a playoff, well, let's look at what would happen if you added a playoff. Everyone is Keen on that Jan. 8th date, so lets take the finals to Jan 8th. So, there would be 4 teams on Jan 1st, then bringing it back to saturdays, 8 teams on the 23rd of December, and 16 teams on the 16th. Now pending on where you go to school, that date is finals week... even the week afterwards can be finals week. So, for those players that need that degree, seeing as College Football will probably be as far as they go, and with teams playing up into December, grades are going to be a factor.
So where do we go? Well, these students who already have a tough time by practicing and schooling, studying, and playing in their games, will now have to add 2 more games during their season, that's during their finals. So then students will drop out and not be able to pay some of the games, because they're not concentrating on their studies, which will then bring down the competition.
Sure it sounds like a longshot, but it makes sense. Everyone that screams playoffs needs to understand their is reprocussion to doing playoffs. It's not just a perfect system, cause if it was, I think they would've changed it by now.
We talk about it nearly every year. We need a playoff? The top 2 teams aren't going! etc. etc. Honestly, it's not like the BCS was made on purpose to screw teams, it was made to make things more fair, and on this note, it was the humans, not the BCS that voted Florida in, instead of Michigan. So stop ####ing about the computers, when more people voted against the rematch, than for Florida. **proven fact, just look at the difference in votes between before the UCLA/USC game, and afterwards** Michigans votes stayed the same, yet everyone that voted for USC 2, Michigan 3, and Florida 4, decided to change to Florida 2 Michigan 3.
Again, here is another point as to why a playoff system is bad. IT'll create MORE controversy than ever. EVEN LSUFan's Blog, the 11 d-1a and 5 at large, will shut off this playoff scheme. The only way a playoff would work, is if the top 4 teams made it.... but not even the top 4 teams are in the top 4.
My final word is simple. GIVE UP! Your ####ing won't change the system. Live with it like everyone else is beginning to. Go Big Ten.
Well, after discussing in my last blog with a gentleman who I'll call "the buckeye". Being a buckeye fan, and a Miami Hurricane fan... you'd imagine the hate we may for each other... or maybe that I have for OSU and that false pass interference call, but we won't get into that.
So, we discuss how a rematch isn't a good idea, and I agree on most of the points. I believe the BCS is set up so that the #1 v the #2 teams play each other. The computers tied them at .940 i believe *them being Florida and Michigan*, and we saw the HUGE sway that the western voters voted for Florida when USC lost, seeing as Michigan stayed the same. So we see the fact that those voters, who voted Florida 4 behind michigan, voted Florida 2 ahead of michigan.
So is Michigan the #2 team, I believe so, is a rematch a good thing, in the sense of why the BCS is set up, no. It's about the money! Which is the exact reason why there is only 2 teams per conference allowed, so Wisconsin isn't allowed to play in a BCS bowl. Wow, we're really seeing the Big Ten just get screwed this year, having 3 top teams in Mich, Wisc, and OSU.
So this is my final word. GO OHIO STATE! GO MICHIGAN! It won't matter how long Florida will take that number 2 spot, because come 01/09/2007, Michigan will be number 2. Congrats to OSU on their National Championship, it's a shame that it was just given to you.
Well, I think this first statement is addressed to the whiners and such of people complaining.... "michigan had their shot", "playoffs, PLAYOFFS!", "SEC is > Big 10", etc. etc. Listen. Florida is playing OSU for the national title. Michigan is playing USC. No matter how much you whine, it's not going to change, period. You can set your side of whos better than who, but it won't change a thing. Your opinion, may be, and is only, important to yourself. So, you have 31 days. Take a deep breath, and relax. Hell, everything might work out in the end. OSU beats Florida, Michigan beats USC, the final rankings will be OSU, Michigan, and hell, I wouldn't be suprised if Boise State sneaks up there. What ifs will still occur.... what if Michigan and OSU played a different Big Ten team as opposed to each other, and they ended 12-0. What if Michigan played OSU at a neutral field. What if Miami didn't start turning back into Convict U.
So if you didn't get anything out of this, just get this. ITS OVER. The games are set, go Big Ten. And thats my final word.
I sit here, as a simple man. Fan of sports, love to play, love to watch, love to game, but on today, 12/07/06, i've come to wonder, when did Detroit lose their professional football team. I mean, the Lions used to play for the NFL, but lately all I see a sub-par college caliber team going up against the NFL. A team of under achievers, with steroid users, and a manager who has the worst record in the NFL the past 5 years, and gets a 5 year extension. Busts galore, and underachievement from our first round picks. Joey, Charles, and Mike to name a few.
So, what does Detroit have to look toward for the rest of the year? Well, I tell you what will probably happen, they're gonna blow their chance at a #1 draft pick like they did last year. It's a shame too. We could have a future star QB in that screwy USC guy they call "Matt". Or we could've traded down for someone to pick up that guy, still been able to pick up ernie sims, and have a better pick this year/next year.
So what does Detroit look at for their #1 pick? We have 3 quarterbacks... Well, 1 QB who throws really really crazy stuff, 1 QB who'll never play, and a 3rd QB who gets more catches than Mike WIlliams. We have a decent RB... and 2 decent WR's in Mike Furrey and Roy *1st down* Williams.
What do we look foward to? Spring training is coming up soon!
Listen, I'm all for a fair chance at everyone who's deserving play for the national title, but when it comes down to it, theirs a few flaws. If you don't want to read all of them, PLEASE PLEASE read #3
1) How would the top 16/8/4 teams in the nation be decided. Don't you dare say BCS, cause if you think you had problems with teams going 11-1, what about those 10-2 teams, they're a lot more of those. Who gets in? Are their going to be certain rules at amounts per conference, like the bowl games currently? and we all know the human polls are pretty biased.
2) If you didn't want rematches now, you're guaranteed to see them in the playoff system. Possibly two or three of them. Fans are pretty p.o.'d about if UofM and OSU did, what if there were 3-4 a playoff.
3) Michigan vs. OSU November 18th 2006. IF there was a playoff, and this game happened. What in the HECK would be the point? Michigan and OSU would be both guaranteed to make playoffs, so why would Tressel or Carr wan't to take the chance of playing all their starters, giving them a chance to get hurt. It would almost KILL the rivalry. Or the Arkansas Florida SEC championship game. USC vs. ND in the 2nd to last game for USC.
And this is the final word. The National Championship game was played on November 18th. Michigan lost 39-42 to the National Champions, OSU. Good game.
So, the Pistons are currently not the best team in the NBA, but that can be a good thing for Pistons fans. Have you noticed you're watching the whole game, not just the first half or 3 quarters, because they have to play all 4 to win. The Pistons are playing their hearts out, since losing the number 1 defensive player, a win isn't almost guaranteed every game. Drama, intensity, and everything comes with the pistons now. You don't see them scoring 100 pts a game, winning by 20 nearly every other one. You see Rip, Sheed, Prince, Billups, as well as the rest of the supporting cast trying every second their hardest.
And this is my final word, I ask you all one thing. Watch a Pistons game. Tell me what you think. Is it more enjoyable? More intriguing? More interesting?
My first post is going to be a big one. Michigan vs. Ohio State vs. Florida. Who should play in the National Championship? PLAYOFFS? Here is going to be a list of Michigan vs. Florida, and who should play.
First off, Ohio State, undefeated, #1 ranked in the US, they're going, I don't think anyone disagrees.
MICHIGAN:
"They had their chance!" Yes they did, and a large amount of people think that the National Championship game was November 18th at the shoe, the score was OSU 42, UofM 39.
"Home field is worth 3 points!" If you're one of those fans, that take into consideration of home field being 3 pts, then I guess the score is tied. 39-39 / 42-42, however you want to put it, but from what I've seen during the rivalry of games at the Shoe, and at the Big House, home field is a good 7pts. The game would've had a different outcome to say the least.
"Ohio State won't make the same mistakes twice!" And nor would Michigan. OSU's two long rushes for TD's wouldn't happen again. That video would be played over, and over, and over again by Lloyd Carr, and it's sad to say, that'll never happen again. So that'll cut roughly the 10 pts on turnovers, and the 14 pts on the two long rushes.
"WE WANT PLAYOFFS!" Now here's a good one to touch. Yes, a playoff system would be nice, but theirs only one HUGE problem I see. For instance, say the playoff system was implimented this season, and say Chad Henne got injured during Nov 18th game against OSU. Both teams were 11-0, and both were guaranteed to play, it'd be a pointless game, and a pointless injury. The rivalry would die, if only for a chance to see UofM play OSU in the playoffs. I mean hell, I would expect to see the most random players on the field. Joey the freshman who used to run track in middle school would be the starting RB for Michigan. Why put in their real players? Although Playoffs would stray away from this problem, it cause the same problems that the NFL has, when they just stop caring near the end of the season, cause they've clinched a playoff spot.
FLORIDA: **reading so many posts, I've really only seen two different votes. For Michigan, or against a rematch. Not necessarily for Florida**
"We had the tougher schedule!" Yes you did, out of the 12 1-A teams, *yes, they played 13 games*, you had the toughest schedule, but don't think you're high and clean from scolding. Michigan was third in the 12 teams they played.
"Michigan already lost to OSU, it's our turn now!" Yes, that's the biggest case for you right now, and its true, Michigan already lost, but BCS is #1 vs #2, and right now, the only people voting you #2, are the people that don't want Michigan #2.
"Michigan didn't even win their conference!" Very true, Michigan was #2, but it can be possible that the two best teams this year are in the same conference, shouldn't they play each other?
"We had a better record!" I've been hearing this one lately, and to tell you the truth, you didn't. you went 11-1, just as Michigan did. I'm not going to count your victory over division 1-AA team, and nor should you.
So what's my opinion. A clause should be written. That when there is such a small descrepency of difference between the #2 and #3 team, and both teams are 11-1/12-1, make a playoff game. To go to the title game. I mean, you already have a month off guaranteed, you might as well do it.
But honestly, I feel the rankings should be this, as this is my final word.
I only have 800 characters to write about what I do and what I like. I live in Detroit, I'm a Miami Hurricanes fan, and every day I wonder why Detroit doesn't have a NFL team. I work at a local bank, where I stand and sit around, greet customers, and do repetitive account work. I'm new to blogging, so this will be a fun experience for those 20 minute times during work that I just get so bored of staring at msn.com and my e-mail. I'm open to all opinions and options, and have been swayed in my decisions before by many good speakers. All I have to say is, who's on first, what's on second, and I dont know is on third.
