Gator's Gander
Jun 19, 2007 | 8:35PM | report this

While the great bloggers like Lisa 4USC have "straight talk from the left coast" and meandovines "best damn Guard" and others with cool names for their blogs, I, in my pathetic attempt to come up with a catchy title for my blogs have created the Gator's Gander (for the average Joe, gander is another word for view). So with that, welcome to the gator's gander, if it ever gets popular maybe I will copyright it, ha-ha.

-          I don’t even want to write this next name because I’m getting tired of seeing it/reading about it but Kobe Bryant is certainly making the headlines, as you can see by the NBA blog section on this site. Who knows if he will move or not but we all have a lot of trade destinations that we see him going to but he will probably end up with a team that we never even thought of or stay a laker. So let’s just wait to see what will happen, the draft is in a week and a lot will happen in this next week leading to it.

-          College football is on the horizon and don’t know about you but I’m pretty excited. I hate these next 3 months, it’s the worst part of the year in sports when the only thing that is on the TV is baseball, which I would rather watch a blue whale expedition from national geographic than a baseball game.

-          I really would like to know why so many people hate on Dirk Nowitzki? Last year in the finals, his team collapsed, the refs called a foul on anybody who looked at D-Wade and this year they faced the one team who presented the worst possible match-up for them. The guy is not a choker. Kobe, T-mac, and for so many years KG could not get out of the first round but I don’t see people calling them a choker, so I don’t see why dirk does. You should be calling him MVP.

-          My early prediction for the BCS championship game: USC vs. West Virginia, these two are in a little less difficult conferences than some of the other top teams who beat themselves up within their own conference. I think if USC loses it will be EARLY IN THE SEASON, a la Nebraska. Texas’ only real challenge is Nebraska as well but they could run into trouble with always tough Texas A&M, and Oklahoma.

-          I hope whatever team picks that guy YI Jillian from china is ready for disappointment. There is always, always at least one player form the top 10 picks of the nba draft who never pan out. Sure he is tall and athletic, but so was Darko, Kandi man, Tskhiville, and many others from overseas who could not live up to their hype. He average like 14ppg in his china league (I was telling Rev Rhythm this earlier) but any decent average baller off the streets could average 14 ppg in china’s league, Im telling you they just play a different style over there and most are not ready for the nba. So whatever franchise picks up Yi….. Good Luck!

That’s it folks, it was short but so is the sports world for the next few months. I’m out like LBJ’s fingernails.

Always great to see another Gator fan blogging. I'm with you, I can't wait till football season. Like your choice of USC, but West Virginia? I'm not sure I understand why. Good blog.

fun... Im going with west virginia becuae they will be ranked high to start the season and they have a fairly weak schedule so in the end, they should be undeafeated.

I explained my reasons on the other post and I'll say it again.
Except for KG, yes the others are chokes you mentioned as well. The only reason KG isn't is the fact unlike Kobe has always had #### teams excluding 2003-2004. Everyone I know says T-Mac is a choker and I agree. 3-1 against Detroit in 2003 and losing. That's bad. Kobe is a choker whether people want to admit or not. In Game 4 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals against the Kings, Kobe tried to go for game winning layup in the final seconds bricking the shot. If it wasn't for Horry to save the day, they would have lost that game and how the series played out lose the series. So I'm not biased to Dirk just pointing out the facts.

everyone has their opinion's, I don't think any of them are chokers, theya are all too damn good to choke, but maybe they need more help than just themselves. The spurs keep winning because they have an actual TEAM, not just a superstar and some spare parts.

That's fine. My only problem is just that an MVP cannot lose in the first round. That just looks bad for them. I know you are mad about your favorite player. Just me that happens to me when I hear how a guy who I believe is bad in front of others eyes is good and the opposite as well. It happens. You believe in Dirk. That shows you are faithful to him. At least he is a good guy unlike KB24.

Dirk is a choker because he pus up bad numbers in pressure situations. he disappears. like Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison - he's a beast all season, then when it counts he chokes. i wouldnt even call him a choker if he at least tried to to take games over. but when the heat is on, he doesnt get his shot off. then there's the fact that he plays absolutely no defense. steve nash took him to the hole. STEVE NASH. yup, drove the ball down his throat. he's 7 foot tall. why isnt he throwing lay-ups into the next county? because he's soft. the playoff are about defense. if he's goin to get punked on offense, the least he can do is attempt to play defense... like Varajao. i could go on and on, citing numbers are game stats but i think i've proven my point.

you haven't proven your point to me! Look, dirk is my guy, so yeah I'm going to be a little more biased in my opinion but I do agree that his D is not very good, nash takes ALOT of people to the hole, it whats makes him one of the best PG's in the league (you don't know weather he's going to pass it or shoot it with his tricky moves and handles).Asd far as him being a a bust in the playoffs, I think last year he came up pretty damn big more than once (Spurs series, 50 point game against suns) that is not a choker. The only reason they lost the finals was becuase the refs went crazy and gave wade 40 free throw attemps a game! Everyone is entitled to their opinions and Im not going to try to argue my point to you, but facts are facts, he has had big moments and then not so big moments in the playoffs. he is not kobe or wade, he's not going to try to score if he doesn't have a shot, hence his FG %, so he passes out of a double team or triple team, like a REAL teamate should!

gator..gander is also a male goose...gator goose..lol
Kobe..who really cares
Dirk..too inconsistant to be counted on as "clutch"
NCAA Football..USC has a tuff schedule..still the team to beat..Huskers are my pick this year (i know) West Virginia? I'll have to take a look but they weren't on my radar.
peace

pump.... funny stuff man, lol. PLease never refer to me as gator goose though again, lol.

I didn't say dirk is clutch, I said he is not a choker. He is is MVP though.

Like I said before, west Virginia will be ranked in the top 5 at the start of the season, they have the most talented backfield this year and their schedule is not that hard, so If they win out, which they have a good shot at, they should be playing for the national title.

gator15 ........ That's indeed why they call it the dark days of summer. I'm now only interested as such in wathcing one or two of the the fights featuring the top UFC fighters. Beyond that as far as sports goes it becomes dead here in the continental US.
How often can one go on watching guys in NASCAR continue to go left all the time ?
Hey gimme' Wimbledon and the F1 races that'll be happening in Europe and I'll be fine. Or you could gimme' a couple of the chicks from the beach volleyball circuit for good measure !

Nice writeup.
Thanks for the info Mean.

Kobe and Pacman, please just go away.

West Virginia? Can we put em on probation for the problems their former students are causing?

Dirk is great, period.
It seems you and I had the same view of the 06 finals. The refs thougth Wade was Jordan and gave him the 'breath on me' fouls.

I see plenty of f'ball upsets in the NCAA this year.
The Big XII will be a tough schedule.
