A little over 50 days until the start of what promises to be another exciting year in SEC football. For me and many other LSU Tiger fans the question is who will be the starting QB. If I had to pick one right now I'd say redshirt freshman Jarrett is probably going to get the call from coach Les Miles. However don't be surprised to see Harvard transfer David Hatch get some time in as well. I can't remember a time when LSU had a real great QB, so being a care taker by limiting mistakes and getting the ball in the play makers hands is all these QB 's need to do.
The defending National Champs aren't being thought of as a real contender this season. If you really think about it though games are won and lost at both the offensive and defensive lines. LSU has probably the best group of any team in the SEC. Returning on the offensive line are center Brett Helms, massive guard Herman Johnson and tackle Ciron Black these guys were huge in contributing what the Tigers did last season.
On the defensive side even with the loss of Glenn Dorsey , the Tigers return
Tyson Jackson and Kirston Pittman at the ends, as well as BCS national
championship star Ricky Jean-Francois, who can play both tackle and end. Remember Jean-Francois get a chance until the SEC title game to show what he brings to the table. All of These guys will be asked to bring the same amount of intensity that the Tiger defense brought last season and I believe they can and will.
LSU is loaded with talent so much so that they'll be in the thick of things for years to come. There is a group of very good RB's and some pretty good WR's as well. Running back Keiland Williams should replace Jacob Hester as the starter. Williams showed last season that he's more than capable of handling the rock full time. Williams is on the watch list for the Maxwell award also.
If there is any area of concern on this Tiger team it's the secondary. The Tigrs lost both CB's Chevis Jackson and Johnathon Zennon along with S Craig Steltz. Soph. CB Jai Eugene and S Chad Jones are very capable of handling those duties. Other than QB though it's the only area of real weakness that I could find.
So here is my list of important games for LSU in the '08-'09 season.
1. LSU @ Auburn - 9/20
2. LSU @ Florida - 10/11
3. Georgia @ LSU - 10/25
4. Alabama @ LSU - 11/08
It'll be a tough road to get back to Atlanta but I believe LSU is just a little better than what most people will give them credit for. It won't be long now befor the season begins. I for one am anxiously awaiting that day.
The perfect breakfast as I see it.
