Spurs win game seven and move on to face Lakers.
May 19, 2008 | 8:51PM | report this

First of congrats to the Spurs and their fans. Very classy franchise and the fans are no different. With that out of the way this is how I seen the game and what went wrong for the Hornets.

The energy that was there for the first two games and game five wasn't nowhere to be found. I thought the Hornets came out a little a little sporadic. San Antonios defense gets credit as well and on the offensive side they was just on fire the whole night paticularly from the three point line where they shot 12 for 28 to the Hornets 4 of 17.

The offensive rebounds in the first half were huge as well. Not to mention the total rebounds for the Spurs which was 51 as compared to the Hornets 42. Credit the Spurs to with keeping Paul from scoring no more than 18 points.  Fouls were pretty even which was good to see. A few bad calls on both sides here and there but nothing that impacted the game that much. Missing a few free throws didn't help the Hornets cause either.

The biggest thing I seen was that the Spurs were able to dictate the pace of the game. That's a credit to an experienced and confident team. Bad shot selection also by all the Hornets. There wasn't many shots that the Spurs let them have that wasn't contested well. Great game for the Spurs and they deserved this win. They were the better team tonight.

So for Byron Scott and the Hornets it's a long Summer but the future is very bright. CP3 will only get better and should be an MVP candidate again next season. David West is still young and a very good player. Hopefully Chandler can work on his offense which has gotten better since joining the Hornets. Rookie Julian Wright looks to improve and should be able to contribute to this team next season. I'm very excited about what the future holds for this franchise. Also very proud of them and what they accomplished this season. Which is more than what anybody believed they could.

Once again congratulations to the Spurs Organazation and it's fan base and goodluck in the Western conference finals. Should be a great matchup with the Lakers.

I think you got one point from your bench through 3 quarters. Your starters had to play too many minutes through 3.

I mean the sentiment I left for you on my blog.

The Hornets will be back. Improve that bench and they could win a title with CP3 and West as the big two.

VIVA NEW ORLEANS HORNETS!!!!

The Hornets will be back. They, along with the Lakers and Blazers, will be a very tough triumvirate of teams to deal with in the West for the next few years. The Jazz will also figure in, but more often than not, they'll be on the outside looking in.

I tip my cap to the Hornets for having a great season.

Congratulations on a great season to the Hornets. They gave the Spurs all they could handle. They are a great young team and I expect to see them make another run next season.

The key to this game was the people coming off the bench and knocking down the shots. When Tim went out with in the third with 4 fouls, I was worried that the Hornets would make a run, but Finley and Horry came out and hit those threes.

I agree totally Spursce. The bench was the difference.

Nique,
The bench did let us down but at the same time Scott only gave Pargo,Wells and Ely a chance. Everyone else just watched the game like me, which is something I didn't agree with. Going to see your blog now.

jon,
I know this as well as everyone which is why I am not to unhappy at all. The Spurs are just a great team and the Hornets young. I agree their will be some good young teams next season that'll throw Spurs,Suns and Houston on the bottom half when we speak about the top teams out West.

Spursce,
thx and congrats to your Spurs who live to continue their quest for another Championship. Great team and tonight they proved just how great they are. Agree your bench was huge without a doubt.

Looking forward to Wednesday should be a great series. Have to ride with my dawg Kobe though.

Hornets lost tonight because Peja and Wells played like they always do when it really counts. I give the Hornets lots of credit, I was rooting for them and picked them in this series. But that ridiculous 3 pointer Peja took in the last 2 min really showed he does not have a clue what to do in crunch time. Bonzi was off the hook flailing around with his usual lack of composure. What a waste of talent.

Meanwhile, Spurs veterans like Horry and Finley were making/taking good shots.

SoCal,
Yeah peja just stunk. He took a few bad shots as did a few other players. It's all good though as the Spurs will lose in 6 against the Lakers.

Gambit, sorry partner and better luck next season.

Your team is a very young team but very promising, you got exceptionally talented PG in CP3 and two hardworking frontliners in DWest and Chandler. Byron Scott is lucky in having players like those guys. He should be proud of his over-achieving team. The new kids on the block.

My condolences on the Hornets' loss. But someone at the end of the day had to go home disappointed.
As to the reasons for the Hornets' loss they weren't numerous. But when it counted there was very little support given to Paul other than Jannero Pargo.

But in the end this'll be a real learning experience for the team , especially the younger players. It'll definitely make 'em much better players in the long run. From the taste of defeat usually comes success in terms of discipline , confidence and triumph against the staunchest of opponents.

nwhat and rampant',

thx guys and both of you are correct. This small taste of success will only make them hungry for more. Can't wait till next season. However I do still have the Lakers to follow. I began my NBA fandom as a Laker fan in the 80's. Been a fan since then.

Steveo,
yeah it sure would have been. Oh well as I said being from New Orleans we are used to saying "Wait till next season" lol! thx for the compliment.

lakersfan,
I am a Laker fan myself. Been so since the 80's only pull for the Hornets because that's my home team. Would never turn my back on the lakeshow though (hey that rhymed) even if it the Hornets were playing them.

This series isn't going to be as easy everyone'd deem it to be for the Lakers. It may well not be over in 6. This series'll be a hard fought one for sure. This isn't a regular season game by any sretch of the imagination. And any basing as happened during the regular season is absolutely pointless. It means nothing during the regular season.
A fool and their money are easily parted if they're basing the results on that alone. This is now for all of the marbles as far as the Western Conference is concerned !
