Befor I get into my rant let me first say that the Spurs played an excellent game on both offense and defense to force a game seven. Coach Popovich also made great adjustments to everything the Hornets did to win game 5. Now for my rant on what I saw in this game.
I'm not the one to complain much about nothing (except for this damn cast I have on my arm because there is an itch I can't scratch) either way the officials were terrible in this game. I've been saying how inconsistant (as has most fans have been themselves) the refs are. This game however was by far the worst I have seen so far in the post season.
Sure CP3 did clear out twice early in the third quarter to pick up two quick fouls. However the fouls on David West one fighting through the screen and one on the offensive side aginst Duncan were just terrible. Those fouls gave West his third and fourth fouls of the game. Which also caused him to say whatever it was to get a Tech. thrown his way as well.
Throughout thie whole game though it was apparent the calls were going to be rediculously in favor of the Spurs. I do not blame San Antonio in no way whatsoever. The officiating crew for tonights game just seemed to have it in for the Hornets for what ever reason.
Also Robert Horry who I admired up until tonight laid a hard foul on David West that was just uncalled for. Sure he was called for it but let's not forget the foul on Steve Smith during last seasons playoffs that turned the whole series around. Though I'm pretty sure it wasn't a master plan by coach Popovich it does make one wonder about the mentality of Horry.
Would you trust a guy who looks like this? Looks devious if you ask me.
Just look at the guy with the nice smile and charming looks, those people can be sneaky and dangerous. He kind of reminds me of a cartoon character of a cat with a huge grin on his face and the bird is missing from it's cage. Who knows what affect this will have on West and the Hornets as a team, especialy if West is not able to play in game seven.
Sorry Horry but I have just lost all respect I have ever had for you. Thing is he may have caused himself more problems than he could have ever wished for. You see Mr. Horry people still believe and practice Voodoo here in New Orleans. Besides if you did it with malice in your heart and mind let me tell you Karma is a real ####!
Let me end this because I have to get up early to start finding everything I need to make a Voodoo doll that looks like Robert Horry. That shouldn't be to hard of a task i'm sure. Game seven will be an interesting one and the Hornets best be ready because these Spurs mean business.
Food for thought : I ran across an article last season that was about a technical foul called on Tim Duncan by referee Joey Crawford which ended with crawford being suspended and missing out on working the post season. something he has done more than any other NBA ref. to date. Think maybe these guys are a little intimadated? Things that make you go Hmmmm?
Were you as outraged by the same back pick on Parker during the last game? It was almost identical to the one Horry put on West. But everyone blamed Duncan for not letting Parker know the defender was there.
And if you are going to tell the story of Duncan and Joey Crawford, at least tell the whole thing. Joey Crawford called two technicals on Tim while he was sitting on the bench for laughing. Yeah laughing. And as Tim was leaving the court, Crawford asked him if he wanted to fight. That comment was what got him suspended, not the Ts. It was not the first time he had stepped over the line. So no, I do not think he was a bit intimadated, the way he and Pop were yelling at each other and the way he was poking Pop in the chest the other night. Didn't look intimadated to me.
About the voodoo doll, there was a radio guy here in SA, nah, I don't think I will tell it. It is just too good to share.
You know my position of being torn on this series. I have no particular bias for either team. I think you protest a little too much about the refs. I've seen far worse officated games.
As far as Horry goes, it's what he does to stay in the league. He's the enforcer who blasts the guy who's making the most impact. Horry is expendable on the court. He's trying for a response. Know it for what it is.
The only bad thing about this series to me is that there has to be a loser. I could watch these teams play a best of 81.
Spursce,
Any play like that I would be upset about. I was in the hospital then fighting for my life so I didn't see what happened to Parker.
As for Duncan and Crawford I never knew the whole story and also the article I read didn't have all that in it. Sorry if it upsets you I can remove it. geez!
nba,
How do they not affect games? Doesn't bad calls often affect a teams composure? I give the Spurs credit for playing a great game and they shot lights out. Thing is this the inconsitancy throughout the playoffs needs to be dealt with. Am I to believe these refs are not fans and have fav. players or whatever it is that causes this stuff to happen? c'mon man let's be realistic about things. Early in the third things got out of hand and it began with the refs plain and simple.
Nique,
I have seen worse myself just not these playoffs as of yet.
I could care less about what he does to stay in the league. Hurting players (yes I believe he did it on purpose) isn't part of the game. It's basketball, not football. What kind of response did he want? Did he expect someone to try and whoop his ####? I know it for what it is...a dirty play.
gamibox, sorry to hear about the hospital stay. Hope you are better. The play on Parker happened just the last game with New Orleans on Tuesday. Chandlier hit Parker in the back on a backscreen on a play almost identical to the one on West. People blamed Duncan for not calling out the screen to Parker. chandlier got called for the foul. Parker was knocked down but was not injured, so that was all we heard about the play. My point is that the play by Horry was not all that unusual. It is a play that happens thousands of times every year. Sometimes it draws a foul, and sometimes it doesn't. If West had not been ijured, that play would not have even fazed him.
I just do not believe Horry should be condemned for a play that happens all the time.
The story about Crawford does not upset me, I just hate to see a story like that used to make a point if the entire story is not used.
I actually have no problem with Crawoford. He has officiated Spurs games several times this season with no problems. he and Pop got a little heated the other night. Crawford was poking Pop in the chest and he called a T on Pop. But before the game was over, they apparently made up and were laughing with each other.
I did not think the officiating last night was that bad. I saw some calls against the Spurs late in the second quarter that raised my eyebrows, but nothing I could say were just horrible calls. I am sure that Hornets fans notice the close ones against the Hornets.
It is funny to me that Horry who has been well respected as a player for years, and has been known as a good defender and a clutch player has suddenly become this dirty player.
Before the hit on Nash last season, you never saw all this stuff about him being dirty or "the enforcer."
Until last night, just what other things has he done to earn this title? He did not even play most of the season. And yes, this playoff season, he has not seen many minutes. So he was logically one of the ones who did the fouls against Shaq. But what are the instances of dirty play that I have been hearing about.
And he went in early in the game last night and played quite a few minutes. When asked about it, Pop said that he had been working his way back into shape and that he just felt they needed the experience he brought from having been in big games.
So I would not say his role has been reduced to being some kind of enforcer. But Horry comes from the era when you played hard and you gave no quarter. And be honest. If West had not been hurt on the play, would you have thought it was all that bad. And would West have been hurt on the play if he was not already hurt?
Spursce,
Thx my friend for the well wishes. I thought you was talking about last series with the Suns. I seen what you was talking about. Hear is my thing.
1. Everyone knew David West was hurt even the Spurs.
2.He has been the best player for the Hornets this series. The main reason we blew you out twice.
3.Watching it over and over Horry threw himself into the small of West back not with his body but with his arms crossed over his stomach, which made it seem he targeted that area.
4. Not the first time Horry has hurt a player seriously, Especialy playoff time.
Like I said I had much respect for Horry always did. After that though I lost a little bit of that. Had time to sleep on it and while I still feel it was done purposely it' is part of the game.
However I can't speak for everyone, especialy for Hornets fans and like I said Voodoo is alive and well here. People by the hundreds practice that form of religion so Horry best get him some God in his life if he doesn't haver it already.
As for the officiating sure it was bad both ways as usual but throughout the playoffs 9of every series it's been worse than years past and none worse than lastnight.
Who did he seriously hurt in a playoff game? Not since he has been on the Spurs. The only hit anyone could call dirty was the hit on Nash last season, and Nash was not hurt. Most of this stuff about Horry started then. He was never known as a particularly dirty player until then. Most people considered him a classy player.
Are you suggesting that the Spurs were supposed to go easy on West because he was injured? Come on, you know better than that. Why do you think the Spurs went to such pains to keep Duncan's illness a secret in the first two games? So the Hornets would not target him. Every team will target a player who is injured, including the Hornets.
The hit on West last night was not vicious. You have to keep your arms in close to the body when you do a back screen. Those are the rules. And he did that, unlike Chandlier who extended his arms to hit Parker. If West had not been hurt, there probably would not have even been a foul called. It came awfully late.
By the way, about the voodoo doll thing. A local sports talk show host had a voodoo doll that was brought back from NO after the last game. He had a local curandero come in and do a hex on David West. The ####y thing was they stuck pins in his foot, his groin, his headm, and his back.
It was all meant in fun of course, since they did a hex on Paul before game 4 and that was his worse game, they just thought they would try again. So just remember, it may not be called voodoo in SA, but it is still practiced here also.
Of course the producer of the show agreed to eat a worm before every game as long
The only time I can think of an injury with Horry was when he was with the Rockets. Karl Malone kicked him right in the nuts when they were both in mid air.
Wow. I must need glasses. To lose all respect for someone over a foul? And thats all it was. A foul. I've seen tougher picks at a Y.M.C.A game. That was just good B'ball.
There is nothing about putting your fist to your abs and setting a screen that is right. Also you can say all you want that West jumped into him as true as that is Horry also leaned slightly forward. everyones opinion but mine is that he did foul him and I also think he did it on purpose. I could be wrong as I have been many times in my life. I just don't feel I am this time around.
The perfect breakfast as I see it.
