Hornets go up 2-0 on defending champs.
May 06, 2008 | 9:10AM | report this

The San Antonio Spurs and it's superstar PF Tim Duncan were not going to go out like game one. The plan was to not let Hornets All-star forward David West have the same impact he had last game. However it seemed they forgot that there was another Allstar for the Hornets on the floor who goes by the nickname CP3. Just as he did to many opposing PG this season and in game one, he abused Tony Parker and any other defender thrown at him enroute to a 30 point and 12 assist night.

The Spurs had no answer at all for Chris Paul and now find themselves in a very difficult position down 2 games to none. The series moves on to San Antonio now but the Spurs have not only ever been able to be repeat champions but have never comeback from a 2-0 deficit.

Sure it's not over till the fat lady sings but it sounds like she is warming up her voice to be ready to sing the song na, na, na, na, hey, hey goodbye. That is if the Spurs do not take these next two games at home that is.

From the start of the season I have said the Hornets are flying under the radar. Some people agreed and still others laughed at me as if I said the greatest joke ever told. Well people who's laughing now? Certainly not the Spurs fans and they are finding out that the same team that beat their beloved team out for the division just might leave them at home wondering if next season will be better than this one.

So as the series moves to the beautiful city of San Antonio I predict the Hornets will come away with atleast one win. They'll close the series out here in New Orleans and sit back to see whether it will be the Lakers or Jazz that they'll be facing in the Western Conference Finals. A series with either just may be one for the ages.

Side Note:  In various places over the internet I have read of fans (mostly Lakers) say that the Hornets and CP3 play dirty ball. Are you kidding me! This is a game with 10 pretty sizeable guys huddled up fighting and scrapping for a ball and a win. Contact is part of this sport you know. Players from any team will do whatever it takes to help it's team win, even more during the playoffs. Get a grip folks and grow up already.

Well, you are not under the radar any longer. If you do go on and beat the Spurs which is likely, the rest of the league will be on notice.

And if you want to sit back and wait for the Jazz or the Lakers, you might want to win both games. Don't be too surprised if the Lakers put away the Jazz in 5 games also.

As far as the dirty ball is concerned, if you keep winning be prepared. You will be accused of dirty play, cheating, being favored by both the league and the refs. Believe me, if the ring of fire incident had happened in SA in the Suns' series, there would have been mass hysteria all over the internet accusing them of doing it deliberately.

All of this goes with the winning and the championships. Once you win, you will no longer be the nice Hornets team from the nice city New Orleans. You will not even recognize the players on your team from the other fans descriptions.

And if you win championships, according to fans of other teams, they will all deserve asterisks by them for a variety of reasons.

Just a word of warning from a fan who saw their team go in the eyes of the BB world from being a group of nice, classy, but soft guys to a bunch of dirty criminals. If you win, it happens.

Spurcse,
you just might be right about the Lakers and Jazz. I can't see the Spurs though getting swept, although stranger things have happened.

Also I know what you mean by the dirty players from other fans of other teams. I still think that the Spurs players with the exception of Bowen are some of the Classiest guys to ever play this game. As much as I want the Hornets to win the series I'll wish your team the best of luck from here on out.

Ah, you are from New Orleans. That explains why you refuse to see how dirty the Hornets are. I should have known.

The Hornets have never been "a group of nice, classy" guys, (just ask North Carolina State's Julius Hodge), so there is no danger of the "world" turning on them for that.

Speaking of Wake Forest, the ACC reviewed that play and suspended Chris Paul for his dirty play. I suppose they were just a bunch of whining Lakers fans as well?

And speaking of growing up, it's amusing the way you insult and attack people just because they have a different opinion than you, and then have the audacity to call THEM immature.

You might want to rethink that behavior. Friends come and go. Enemies accumulate.

Tom7,
Because I am from New Orleans has nothing to do with it. As a matter of fact you can ask anyone one this site who knows anything about me that I am a Laker and Kobe fan.

Besides I never said the Hornets players are classy guys. What is immature is passing judgement on these players you know absolutly nothing about.

Who cares what the ACC did! Paul no longer plays for Wake Forest.

As for enemies LMAO! accumulate all you like I could care less. That just makes it easier to take them all down in one shot. Your friends may come and go because it doesn't take them all that long to figure out what you are truely about. Mine are there for life.

The Hornets are playing great ball right now and they have found a way to dent the Spurs' armor.

But you know the Spurs aren't going to go down without a fight. They are champions and they will play like champions in the next two games.

Right now, the Spurs haven't figured out a way to beat the Hornets. But all it takes is one game and once the Spurs win one, it will be a brand new series.

But if the Hornets make quick work of the defending champs, they have something coming for them by the name of KOBE BRYANT and the juggernaut that is the L.A. Lakers.

Gambit, I can see by your reaction to what I wrote that you do not understand what I am saying, and that you are too set on pre-judging to be able to see what I'm saying were I to try again to say it.

That's fine. Loyal fans are part of what makes this game so fun anyway.

I am just writing to let you know that when you don't see me commenting on your articles, it isn't because I have hard feelings.

It's the music.

Just like you and I see basketball (and probably life) differently, your music isn't anything close to what I would choose either, and since I dislike it blasting over the music I am playing on my computer every time I come read your articles, it's not likely I'll be coming back here.

Again, I just didn't want you thinking I was avoiding you because you think I'm an enemy or some other nonsense like that.

Besides, I'm sure we'll bump into each other plenty in the comments area of other people's articles.

By the way, why not use some music from New Orleans?

Being partial to jazz myself, I'd love to listen to Wynton Marsalis for example, or some blues / r&b of Fats Domino. Swing jazz from Harry Connick, Jr. would be nice too, or some pop hits of Aaron Neville... it would all be an improvement in MY book!

Cheers!

Tom7,
I have no problem with agreeing to disagree with you. Also you could be correct, I may have misunderstood your meaning behind your comment. If so I am sorry for my mistake.

As for the music keeping you out, well sorry about that. It is my prefered choice of music although I do like a little of everything but country and opera. I like New Orleans style Jazz music and just for you as a way to say I am sorry, I'll add some of it to my player. Well atleast what I can find anyways.

P.S. you can change the songs by clicking on whatever song you would like to hear.

An avowed Spurs' fan here and even I know when that there are times when we know that we've got it good. But in the here and now your Hornets are handing us our as*ses in more ways than one.

Pop' is being outcoached and the youthful exuberance of this Hornets' team knows no boundaries. If we're to put a lid on things then we're going to have to shut CP III down and that's it. If not then this series is over with bar the shouting !

J-DIZZLE,
I'm not nieve enough to believe that the Spurs will be swept, plus I would be disappointed if they did. I am all for good games and long great series during playoffs. thx for commenting.

Rev.,
I take it you did not here about my accident. Read my post from sunday. It explains everything and why I was not able to make the Fest. Although from what I understand it was great as far as the music and venues went. The rain and sloppy mud was the huge problem.

Top,
Seems the Hornets are just a tad bit quicker and a little more hungry than your Spurs. I do however see the Spurs making a series of this unless they lose one at home then you can say their water will be cut short. thx for the comments as always it's great to hear from you mon'ami.

The Hornets are good, I'm tellin' ya. The only team that might wanna play them has to be Boston, but even that's in doubt after the first round vs. Atlanta.

Take care, man! I wrote a psot about how Orlando got cheated on Monday, check it out if you will. See ya!

Not only are they faster and playing a better brand of basketball than the Spurs. They've gotten into the head of Popovich and have completely derailed his plans.

Though this series has yet to meet its culmination. If they can't get a handle on Paul and West. Then the series'll be over bar the shouting in San Antonio. They can ill afford to go 0-3 at that juncture.
They've got to win all three games played there and catch 'em cold back in New Orleans if they're to prevail.

At this point the fat lady is waiting in the wings clearing her throat. When she's ready she'll be front and center singing her aria.
And for me as a Spurs' fan it's something that in reality I can see happening. Popovich just doesn't seem to have an answer at this juncture . Who'd have thought that he'd be outcoached by Byron Scott throughout the series thus far ? What's even more perplexing is the stellar defensive play of the Hornets. They're making the Spurs seem pedantic and docile.

top,
yeah he's being out coached but not as much as the Spurs are being out hustled. It is perplexing though nonetheless.

I'm on my way in a few minutes my friend to check out what you posted.
