Much has been said about who the MVP this season should be. Most of the focus has been on two real great players in Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. While there is an abundance of arguments you can make for either player, in my opinion nobody is doing more than the kid they call CP3.
In the past two games Chris Paul has put up almost identicle numbers against the Western conferences two best teams. Just days ago Paul was way to much for Spurs PG Tony Parker to handle. After the first half the Spurs went with defensive ace Bruce Bowen to try and stop CP3. Paul finished with 26 pts-17 asst. and 3 steals. Which resulted in a huge 100-75 win.
Again last night in a sold out arena and the largest audience ever for a Hornets game Chris Paul was spectacular. The Lakers defense had no answer for Paul who put up 27 pts-17 asst. and 4 steals enroute to a 108-98 win which moved the Hornets into a half game out of first place.
Paul has done everything you could possibly ask of an MVP worthy player. None more than he has taken a team nobody gave a chance to win and has carried them on his back. At just the young age of 22 what he has been able to accomplish so far is nothing short of amazing. Yes Lebron is young and was fresh from highschool and has been an amazing player as well. Thing is everyone expected that from James. Nobody would have ever guessed Paul is (in my honest opinion) the best PG in the game today.
Leadership is and should be one of the qualities that is looked at when deciding an MVP player. CP3 has shown he is the Hornets leader both on and off the field. He's the first player on the court during pre-game shoot arounds and during practice he's the first player to arrive. Teamates often try to beat him to practice even going as far as leaving early just to beat him and have failed in every attempt.
CP3's defensive skills are second to none. He leads the league in total steals with 165 and is first in steals per game with 2.70 that's pretty astounding for such a young player. He has also managed 2 steals in 47 of 61 games.
Paul is a dominant PG and he is 1st in steals, 2nd in assist, 3rd in assist to turnover ratio, 9th in free throw percentage and 18th in scoring. Paul is also on the verge of possibly becoming the only player in NBA history to finish a season with 20 plus points, 10 plus assist and 3 steals. If that doesn't happen what is even more possible is he'll become the first player in 15 years (Tim Hardaway 92-93) to finish 20 and 10. Something 2 time MVP Steve Nash never did.
If you haven't had an opportunity to watch the Hornets and Chris Paul I feel for you. This is a very exciting team to watch and Paul makes it that way. This Sunday the Hornets take on the the Detroit Pistons on ABC station. It's one of the very rare times that they will be on national T.V. and I recommend to anyone who is a fan of the NBA to watch this young team led by Chris Paul try and dismantle another elite NBA team. I can almost guarantee you'll come away with a new found respect for both the Hornets and Chris Paul.
Anyone can make an argument for a few other players this season. Fact is none of those arguments would be any better than what one can make for Chris Paul. So with all this said I must admit one more thing. I am a Laker fan, are you surprised?
CP3 for MVP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been dabbling on a C. Paul vs. D. Williams blog.
I think CP3 is a great talent. He'll end up as one of the greatest point guards of all-time. He may be deserving of MVP but he has no chance of winning it this year.
Lucky for us, we've got about 12 more years to watch him hone his skills. I'm sure he'll get at least one MVP during that time.
nba,
Yeah Kobe will more than likely win it. I have no problem with that at all. What I do have a problem with is the fact that the criteria for winning the award is just plain stupid. Also I have a problem with the fact that most writers will vote for Kobe because they see he may have deserved it befor this year.
p.s. Nash has 11.5 asst and Paul 11.2 but it's clear who is better at that position.
CP3's ankle is good. David West is the bigger issue and have nothing to report on that just yet.
Gasol IDK about yet either.
The guys in my group decided to each take a player and write a blog on who deserves the MVP award. Naturely since I see all the Hornets games I chose Paul. Funny thing is I believe he deserves it. thx for stopping in and commenting.

I do believe CP3 is deserving of consideration but as it stands Kobe should be the MVP. Not even Bron Bron can speak against that. As far as TMAC goes, he is deserving of consideration but I don't think he will get any votes for it. Also, as of late, D. Williams has been playing out of his mind. Even better than CP3. I admitt that and I hate the Jazz.
Paul has done remarkably well this year for the Hornets, but I think that the media will give it to Kobe simply because he generated more talk than Paul, who had the misfortune of playing in relative anonymity in New Orleans (no offense). If Nash can get the MVP twice with lesser stats, Paul should get it too because he, like Nash, is vital to his teams' success; without him, they don;t sniff the playoffs.
I'm waiting till game 82 before I seal my vote.
The final games matter, due to the closeness of my vote. Team record will be part of the equation, sorry LeBron, this year winning matters greatly.
Here are my final four by height:
Chris Paul
Kobe Bryant
LeBron James
Keving Garnett
Gambitt, why aren't I surprised you picked Msr. Paul already?
Chris Paul is sick, 2nd in MVP voting behind Bron.
That being said, the argument that "everyone expected LeBron to be sweet" or whatever is a weak argument. Right up there with 'The only reason LeBron shut down Kobe is because he SHOULD shut down Kobe, he's bigger than Kobe' or 'LeBron should average 3 more rebounds per game than Kobe, he's bigger than Kobe' or 'LeBron SHOULD average more assists per game than Kobe, he's bigger than Kobe.'
Those arguments might win you a free bottle of paste in 1st grade, but they don't back up your point here.
ramogriff, thx for stopping in sorry I haven't responded quickly was rather busy this weekend. I'm a Kobe and Laker fan but honestly believe Paul is the MVP this season.
Downs,
Thx and Paul has plenty of time to win an MVP award it's just to bad he will not get it after such a great season.
husker,
Waiting till the last game is a fair way to judge it. You shouldn't be surprised I pick Paul at all. thx for dropping in mon'ami
Tsunami,
What I was trying to point out is even befor Lebron made it to the NBA there was all sorts of hype. thx for dropping in.
Gambit, you dont need to resort to external qualities like nobody expecting Paul's emergence and Lebron's hype coming out of school. Simply put, Chris Paul is an animal. Admittedly, i haven't watched him all that often, but what i saw him do to my Bulls a few nights back was remarkable. The difference between the team's play with him on and off the bench was unreal, and he showed both his passing and scoring ability while moving from 1 guard to 2 guard in the fourth quarter. He was unstoppable and won the game singlehandedly despite the Bulls entering the fourth quarter with a pretty sizeable lead.
Paul has a long way to go before the following could even be a possibility, but given where his game is at at such a young age, he might go down as the best little man in the history of the game, even better than Iverson or Isiah. Paul is an animal.
All that said, Kobe4MVP. No Joke.
chitown,
Thx for stopping in my friend. Paul is pretty remarkable and spectaculiar as a player. I agree he has a long way to go and giving that he's so young and already to the point he is at is somewhat scary. I beleve Kobe will win the MVP and deserves it. However I feel not only does Paul deserve it as well but it'll be a clser vote than some may think.
The perfect breakfast as I see it.
