We are only at the halfway point in the '08 NBA season and the biggest surprise so far in my opinion is the New Orleans Hornets. In lastnights action the Hornets made easy work of the Denver Nuggets and Chris Paul was one rebound shy of a triple-double. which begs the question is he an early favorite for the MVP of the league? There is certainly a good argument for that so far. Paul and his Hornets lead the western conference and have the leagues longest winning streak at this time with 9 straight games. Including a win over the defending champions the Spurs just days ago.
Against the Nuggets Paul had 23 points,17 assists and 9 rebounds impressive numbers to say the least. At this time he is playing better at his position than Tony Parker, Deron Williams and yes even Steve Nash. Avg. 20.6 points a game 10.7 asst. and a league leading 2.57 steals a game it's hard not to argue that he should be a starter in next months All-Star game in New Orleans.
Much has been made of who the better young PG is in the league. Is it CP3 or D.Williams? I think Paul is answering that question as the season moves along. Taking nothing away from Williams who is a great young PG and will be for years to come. I just think Paul is playing at a different level at this time than he is. He also has his team playing at that same level as well. The second half of the season will be a test for CP3 and the Hornets but make no mistake this team is a playoff and championship contender and Chris Paul is also an early favorite for the MVP as well.
ESPN video highlights of the game against the Nuggets. Sorry but for whatever reason fox doesn't have a video and/or they are not giving the Hornets any credit.
Caught the Nuggets-Hornets game last night. I was VERY impressed with Paul's play. He's a great young PG with an off the charts basketball IQ.
I saw Paul make a play last night that I haven't seen in a long time. He drove between the two guards at the top of the key (the Nuggets were playing a 2-3 zone at the time) and shielded one of the defenders with his body before passing it back out for an open 3.
That seems like a simple play but it's not. Only a true PG makes that play.
Statistically, he's the best PG in the league but again, it's very early in the season.
He'll need to get it done in the postseason before he can leapfrog Nash & Kidd, much less D. Williams.
Williams brought it all year and in the the playoffs last season.
GR8UN54, Iam a lakers fan but from all the NBA videos I seen there was everything but Lakers or Hornets. As for Paul as MVP he's my early fav. Garnett who is probably most peoples fav at this time is playing on a stacked team. So I' not looking his way.
Hoffman, CP3 is the real deal that's for sure. I saw that same play as well and was impressed. he knows how to find the open man. Yeah I know it's early and as I said the second half will tell the tale. Thing is neither Nash, Kidd or D. Williams is playing better ball at this point in my opinion. I see CP3 as a more legit MVP than either of those right now.
I agree he is better than Iverson who is good but he's a scorer not an assist and make your teamates look real good type of PG. He should have been the starter. It's no different than any All-star type thing though. It's all about name and respect. Such is the nature of the beast though and we just have to accept it. thx for dropping in
The perfect breakfast as I see it.
