Georgia or Tenn. it doesn't really matter. Next up Arkansas...
Nov 18, 2007 | 8:05AM | report this

There is a lot I've been reading as of this morning on whether the SEC is as tough as we homers claim it is. Most of those comments are made by PAC-10 homers of which most of those are USC fans. One could only guess that it's a way to help them feel better about how USC has not lived up to the hype this year. To me it is pure ignorance, and most can't make a valid point on why they believe this. Sure they'll say things like Tenn. lost to a Pac-10 team and Bama just got beat by Uni. Louisiana at Monroe. But does this make the SEC weaker than most years, maybe. One thing is for certain the SEC will put more teams in a bowl game than the much weaker Pac-10.

So now the big buzz is that LSU doesn't want to face Georgia in the SEC Title game. Give me a break, this is still the same Georgia team that lost to Fat Phil and Tenn. They are playing off of hype and let's be realistic people, that can only carry you so far. LSU plays 60 full minutes and your lead is never safe against the Tigers of Baton Rouge. You can cry to me about how they got lucky in this game and that one. You can #### about they get all the calls their way (actually they are the most penalized team in the SEC) and you can groan about the SOS. Fact remains they have played a more impressive schedule than any of the other top teams.

So now it's on to Arkansas and the Heismann Hopeful D-Mac. This is the big test for the defense. Stopping a runner who seems to be on a mission to prove that even though his team sucks, he's still that damn good. Not an easy task in my opinion. Arkansas has no passing game at all though. which will allow LSU to crowd the line of scrimmage and keep D-Mac in check. LSU has some pretty good CB's so leaving them in 1 on 1 situations to bring the safety's closer to the line isn't such a bad thing. I see the Tigers beaten the snot bubbles out of the Razorbacks.

Which brings me to the SEC Title game and either Georgia or Tenn. Neither one of these teams has what it takes to beat LSU in my opinion. I know, I know, they only have to be good for one night but it isn't going to happen. The only things that concern me are the injuries LSU is facing towards this seasons ending. We have seen last night though with LSU LB Catrera, We have 3rd and 4th string players that are good enough to start for most teams. Catrera filled in for LB Darry Beckwith and played like he had been there all season. DT Glen Dorsey had an undisclosed injury lastnight also. The team wouldn't say what was hurting him but if I had to guess it is that his knee is still very sore from the cheap shot taken by two Auburn offensive lineman a few weeks ago.

After OU's beating by a damn good offense in Texas Tech. the BCS top 5 should look like this later today.

#1- LSU
#2-Kansas
#3-Mizzou
#4-West Virginia
#5- OSU

Until someone loses and another rises to the top 5 all the rest doesn't matter. Please leave a comment and thanks for reading. Geaux Tiger!!!!

Good write up gambitxxx,

I haven't heard the trash talk you're refering to... You must run in a different blog circle. I see the Bayou Bengals winning out. They'll do it in their own, heart wrenching way, but let's face it, Miles must like a close nail biter and as a result the team is accustomed to it. That is a big plus! I guess it's kind of like the Patriots leaving their first string in the whole game even though they had a big lead. The coach wanted them to play the full game. Then along comes a game when they're down in the fourth quarter and (WALLA!!) they score two late TDs to pull the game out. Miles has the Tigers well-honed when it comes to tight, pressure-packed games. Your Tigers will do well...

See you in N'orlens!

Dwindy, thx for commenting. Those people I refer to I will leave unnamed. I have seen most of it on other blog sites but seen it here as well. LSU in my opinion and though it may be somewhat biased is the best team in College football this year. They are the most battle tested but any team can fall any giving Sat. They do play good when the pressure is on and that can carry a team a long way.

Geaux Tigers!!! hope to see you in the "Big Easy" as well Dwindy.

BTW, on my other post, you said how me and Suomi jumped on New Orleans after losing to the winless Rams.

It was because Schaub i sback, and I think he has a better chance of beating the Saints' defense than Brees does of beating the Texans' defense.

We'll see! Crazier things have happened!

Take care, man!

Mike your top looks good to me except I think a 1 loss OSU is better than both Georgia and VT.

As far as the Saints go, hey I can understand it's no biggie. Thing is can Houston run the ball? If not then that will leave them one dimensional and thus makeing it easier to stop Matt Schaub. He's not that good and the Texans D hasn't been up to par lately. Have a great Sunday and Goodluck to the Steelers. I started Big Ben today but benched Parker. Also started the steelers D again today. they have helped out a lot.

After seeing what The Vols did to the Razorbacks. DMac will be held under 50 yards.

Gambit- Who's your Heisman front-runner now? I have a few names bouncing around in my head.

Tim Tebow (QB, FLA)
Glenn Dorsey (DE, LSU)
Chase Daniels (QB, MIZZOU)

Personally, I would vote for... ahhhh, this is hard. I'd vote for Tebow. Who's got your vote?

Take care!

PacManWest, I hope your right.

Mike, While there is no denying how great Tebow is I would give it to Daniels. He's just an all around QB. I like the fact you throw Dorsey in the mix. Some Media people are starting to buzz about that. Thing is Defensive players don't get any respect when it comes to he Heaisman. Another name I would throw in there is the WR from Texas Tech Crabtree. This guy is as good as it gets.

Yeah, I forgot about him. I know he's good, but never really thought he would be in the MIX mix, know what I mean? I think there's too many guys in front of him, but good point.

Right now, my NFL picks are all winning! Let's hope it stays that way.

Have a great rest of the Sunday, Gambit!

Gambitt: It is all arguable right now. I bashed the SEC, Big 10, and Big 12 in my latest post. When it all comes down to it, not many BCS schools play ANYBODY of note outside of their conference schedule. Getting eligible for a bowl game and 6 wins is a premium, and every BCS school knows that. Kansas is the latest whipping boy cuz they played nothing but patsies in their non-conference slate. But hell, can you argue with them? They have only been to 5 bowl games since 1981. Their 1st priority is to GET to a bowl game, let alone contend for the Big 12, much less a National Title.

We can #### and moan all we want, but until the bowl season is over, none of us have a real clue who the best conference, let alone team, really is. But hey, I'm happy that our LSU Tigers are #1 right now, and have the inside track to winning it all.

I'm agreein Greenspire - Georgia would stomp OSU, as long as they're not playing in the snow!

I'm not sure about Oklahoma and Oregon though. Oklahoma got absolutely stomped by Tech and Oregon is just in slow motion without Dixon. I don't think Oregon will even be in the top 25 by year's end.

You guys don't count out Arkansas. That McFadden comes through the hole like a damn freight train and people just seem to bounce off the guy. Hopefully for all of us SEC guys LSU will face Tenn in the CG and not Georgia.

Good Luck!
