With the first pick of the 2008 NFL draft....
Sep 25, 2007 | 7:30AM | report this
Well It looks as though the New Orleans Saints are on the fast track to get the first pick in next years draft. And with that pick it's obvious that it definatly will not be an easy choice. The Saints are in need of improvement in so many areas it's hard to put a finger on which is more important. The offensive line looks like it never played a down of football in it's life. Drew Brees stayed under pressure the entire game. Not to mention they couldn't open a hole for Reggie Bush with the exception of the one touchdown run up the middle. In three games now the O-line has looked worse than a pop warner team. I've seen better blocking in a game of backyard football. It's time for these guys to be taught what it's like to see the game from the sideline. Not even Jamal Brown who since he was drafted by the Saints has played rather good, but  so far this season hasn't played up to his capabilities. So is this the position to be looking to fill with the first pick? Well lets examine the other many areas of problems with this bunch of losers. Reggie Bush is not an every down back and with Deuce hurting Sean Peyton decides to use Aarron Stecker as the other back in the scheme and I ask why? Stecker is no power house back himself but instead relys on speed to do what he can. The Saints had two RB's during preseason. Pierre Thomas made the team with some strong runs and a will to win. He's a more complete back than Stecker so why not give him an opertunity to play. Seems as though nothing else is working so could it realy hurt? With the exception of Marquis Colston there is nobody on this teams offense playing worth a damn. Now moveing on the other side of the ball the Defensive line and Linebackers are just not getting anything done. Poor tackling and not being able to cover on short underneath passing plays has hurt them. These positions are big areas of concern. So do the Saints go here to fill a void with their first pick? And now we get to probably the worst part of this team (at least in my opinion) the secondary. Corner Jason David has taken a lot of heat over these past couple weeks but last night he was the lone bright spot on Defense with an interception after Brees just threw one previous to that. For all the flack he has taken he does have in three games a forced fumble and recovery for a TD and an interception. I still think he is better suited in the nickel package. Maybe it's time for the Saints to take a look back at this years draft and really question why they did not choose a top notch CB instead of choosing a WR who hasn't done anything but sit on the sideline and wish he had been drafted later in the first round. Is this where the Saints go this year with it's first pick?  Whatever they decide it's time to start evaluating what might be available this comeing year. So I pose a question to everyone who reads this blog, what should they be looking at to fill first?  I know it's to early to tell where they'll fall in the draft but from the looks of things it'll more than likely be with in the top 10 picks. I'm looking foward to your thoughts on this sore subject.
