Shaun Marion is reporting he feels his time with the Phoenix Suns is past due. The report comes from the Arizona Republic the states official news paper. Marion has found his name in trade talks recently with the Utah Jazz and the Los Angeles Lakers. Marion told sporting news .com by phone that he would welcome a trade to the Lakers to be able to play with good friend Kobe Bryant. "You have a great organazation, great ownership there with the Lakers. I don't see any problem playing there." It would be a good move for both Marion and the Lakers to get a deal done. The Lakers could use another player that could score in bunches to help Kobe Bryant and Marion would probably go back to playing the position he is built to play. If the Lakers do not pull the trigger on this trade it will (Atleast I would think so) be another situation like the one with Jason Kidd... a very frustrated Kobe wanting out of an organaztion that refuses to get him some serious help. But making a trade for Marion would probably cost the Lakers Lamar Odom and are they willing to part with him is anybody's guess. Marion is the highest paid player on the Suns roster with two years remaining on his contract and rumor is he wants a three year extension worth $ 60 million that he would neither deny nor confirm. "Regardless of the extension talks, I'm tired of hearing my name in trade rumors" said Marion. "It's time for me to move on. I feel like they tried to force my hand to boston with the Garnett stuff." It's the nature of the bussiness. No one ever wants to leave a team they have had so much success playing for. If you Ask me the Lakers would be fools not to do whatever it takes to get Marion in a Laker uniform. As a huge Laker fan, I welcome the trade and Marion to the team. He would be a valuable asset to the Lakers going deeper in the playoffs than the last couple of years. Kobe needs help and although I love Derick Fisher, he is not the answer to L.A.'s playoff woes. We need someone with some serious skills and a aggresive aproach to the game. Marion can bring that to this team. He's a scorer and a great rebounder. Unlike some 7" foot people on this team who are panzies in my opinion. So I am asking other Laker fans on this site what do you think? Should they make the deal provided it doesn't cost to many players. Or should they stick to what they have? Never the less the NBA season hasn't started but it seems like things will be heating up soon. I Love this Game!
JoshQPublic-report was he was going to go to Boston and garnet to pheonix with MInn. getting d5aft picks for the deal but he nixed that trade from happening. he did not want to be there.
pumpdude thing is players have the right to turn away trades in B-Ball. So for the right players and money. Not to mention the expiring contracts that teams love to trade for you never know what will happen.
I think they should make the trade. If it has to be Odom, so what. I like Odom, but he hasn't contributed that much being on the sideline in civilian clothes. Marion can move without the ball and when Kobe drives the lane, he has an oop or a dish to Marion for the dunk. It's a no brainer. I also agree that if the Lakers don't do this, it will be just like the Kidd situation, which I still can't believe. What a missed opportunity there. Oh, one more thing. Although Marion's shot is disgusting, it works. The Lakers need another outside shooter, especially from outside the arc. And D-Fish is not the answer for the playoffs. Once again, love D-Fish and that awesome shot against the Spurs in the playoffs (can't remember year or game number), but Fish is no Nick Van Exel. I miss those years.

I think Shawn Marion is making a huge mistake. The same can be said for any team that acquires him. In my opinion, Shawn Marion is the ultimate system player. The guy is an athletic freak, but i dont think even he realizes just how much a part of his game Steve Nash and the D'Antoni system is. He doesn't have the handle to create his own shot and while he has all of the "intangibles" and picks up points off of broken plays and making cuts, he isn't the type of player that will aleviate the pressure on Kobe Bryant. Kobe needs somebody that is a consistent outside shooter that can also create his own shot on a consistent basis. At the least Kobe needs himself someone in the mold of a Steve Kerr, i.e. a player that will make doubling a potentially costly mistake.
chitown-I've heard a lot of people say that today, and I have to disagree. Marion was a huge factor for the Suns before Nash and D'Antoni got here. While he may not be stellar in any one area, Marion makes any team better, because he does so many things well, probably more so than anyone playing today.
Birbon14- I agree Odom is good but he is doesn't do the team any good from the sideline.
Chitown-Have to disagree with you on that. as ricko said he was good befor that system was in place. Also his stats are better than odoms. and he is only 18 months older than Odom. One thing he can do Odom can't is hit more outside shots. especialy from the 3-point line. Also Odom is only good driving to his left creating a shot that's hard to block because he's left handed. Marion isn't the player he was 3-4 years ago but still better than most and better than they could afford for a few years.

Before Nash arrived in Pheonix, the Suns were junk. On any team, whether top of the line or bottom of the barrell, a couple of players are going to put up impressive stats. Shawn Marion was that man on the Suns of old. With Kobe running the show in LA, i dont think Marion would be what the Lakers need. His numbers would still be solid, but he isnt the type of player that puts the Lakers near the top of the West. Just my opinion.
As a suns fan and as much as I would hate to see him leave if he does I would rather see the suns get something for him now in Odom then have him go free agent and get nothing for him and if you can pick up a Cook or a Walton on top of it that only adds a little depth that the Suns have needed for a long time. I feel like listening to break up songs in a dark room with a bottle of whiskey...
Hey whatajoke-Here are my feelings. You take your chances with Marion the next two seasons. If he leaves as a free agent, it's not like you're getting nothing for him. You're getting a bunch of $$ freed up to sign someone else. But trading him now will be the beginning of the end for the Suns.
I wouldn't go that far Barbosa, Diaw, Amare and Bell are a good core group. A few more pieces with some freed up cap money and they will still be a good team. I just really like the Matrix.
ricko...im pulling for your suns.... or the mavs, as well as my celts, just anyone but the spurs. marion is needed in phoenix...this isn't good for da suns.
Last night, I simulated the entire upcoming season on the X-Box 360 with all of the updated lineups, transactions, and trades.
I even created the top rookies (Oden, Durant, Conley, Noah, etc..) and assigned them to their respective teams.
The results were surprising but certainly plausible: Heat over Celtics in seven in the East Finals. Lakers over Spurs in seven in the West Finals. Heat over Lakers in six in the NBA Finals.
There are so many trades that could happen with Marion. You could really go after a center and put Amare in the PF or you could go for a back up PG to give Nash a rest. Even without Marion I think the Suns are a playoff team. I hope they find a way to keep him Suns are a better team with him and he has been a great player for them the last 8 years but if they keep him it will be the same old attitude of "I'm under appreciated" and "MO MONEY" jive.
The Suns should have gone after Gerald Wallace for Marion, who would have been a perfect compliment to Nash, Amare, Bell, Barbosa, etc...
Wallace is not only an exemplary defender (maybe not as proven as Matrix but just as adequate), but he possess the ability to create off the dribble and make the pull-up mid-range shot, something the Matrix truly lacks.
Too bad it didn't happen and now the Suns may be forced to trade him for less value.
LISA: Yes they were, but that was the East Finals where they lost to the Heat.
Their main problem in the video game simulation was lack of production at the PG spot. Smush Parker actually outplayed Rajon Rondo in the seven-game series.
Eddie House was your lone bright spot at the PG spot, and I actually believe he will have a breakout year with the Celts.
Matrix for Odom?! Hell Yeah! Odom is a waste with the Laker's! Hes been a waste for the past three year! constantly getting injured, is not a number 2 man (more of a number 3 roll player) and has never proven anything. Why do you think other teams trade him. Sure hes a nice guy but thats not going to win us championships. If Kupchak doesn't pull the trigger on this one he is dumb piece of BLEEP! Thats whats wrong with GM he doesn't have the Cajones! And for all you wanna be Laker fans start acting like it. We have to be fans of the Laker's not Fans of the players!
steve kerr has no feel for da deal.., he's a basketball nerd .. marion is the real deal...how they put these ex-players into power positions i'll never know ...
Mean he has now spoken to Kobe about it and Kobe is asking the Lakers to look into it. Thing is though Mitch the #### said they will make no moves befor camp begins.
