You may or may not ask what I am tired of. Whether you want to know or not, I am going to tell you what I am tired of and whom I am tired of.
I am sooooo tired of overpaid professional athletes who "earn" millions of dollars for entertaining the masses and then complain that it is not enough money. I am also tired of the professional sport team owners who have no guts and continue to pay the athletes the zillions of dollars; owners, to stroke their own egos, bid and outbid each other to gain athletes in their "stables".
I am sooooo tired of overpaid and underworked politicians who claim to have the best interests of the public at heart while they line their pockets with lobbyist's money and various perks. They cowtow to the lobbyists and other special interest groups to the detriment of the public......then become involved in private entities like Major League Baseball and professional football, claiming THESE organizations are corrupt, crime ridden, steroid using and drug infested miscreants. I think they should clean their own houses first; ah but the public will say "what a fine job they are doing, cleaning up our sports".
I am sooooo tired of SOME overpaid and underworked schoolteachers who claim they are overworked.............They evidently do not realize...more to the point......they DON'T CARE that they, like our elected officials, are paid by the taxpayers. They work in usually safe environs, free from the dangers of soldiers, police officers, corrections officers who are paid much, much less. Most of the ones complaining do just enough to keep their jobs, they would not have been worth a darn in my time. I remember when teachers taught...they also worked part-time jobs after school and during the summer to make ends meet. They cared.
I am sooooo tired of BIG BUSINESS continually taking advantage of the public. To reduce costs, they have outsourced manufacturing to foreign countries, while not reducing the prices of the products, all in the pursuit of bigger and bigger profits for greedy stockholders and CEO's. We, the public follow like sheep....continue to let them "shaft" us.
Basically though..............I am sooooo tired of the whole "entertainment" complex in the United States.............millions upon millions of dollars being expended on athletes, movie stars, TV stars to do nothing more than entertain us, to give us some minor respite from our alledgedly humdrum, hohum existence. We are fast approching the day of 300 dollar general admission tickets to baseball/football games, 10 dollar beers and hotdogs.
Isn't it about time we woke up.....................Take control of our lives and live as the Founding Fathers thought we would..................decently, with no one having a real unfair advantage?
hey fuzz im with you!!!! why dont they just shut the H??? up and just play the game!!!! must be nice to be blessed with talent and to play a game you love and get payed for it!!!!!????? how many of us still playing church league baseball, basketball or football, nothing against church leagues... but also us who play city league sports?? and these idiots are whinning about MONEY??????? i wish i could trade with them!!! fuzzzzz RIGHT ON!!!!!
There is an inequity in the dispersement of dollars for services rendered in our country...
You've heard my rant about the attorneys being responsible for the upward spiral of fees charged while these leaches slug fortunes into their investments. Then they shove big dollars into politics so that society continues to grease their way...
Amen Fuzz...NICE RANT. "I gotta feed my family" Latrell Sprewell, on why he turned down 21 mil for 3 years. It's nauseating. 60 mil for a QB who will sit on a bench for two years?
The only thing I have a beef with here is the teacher thing; typically teachers are known to be UNDERpaid. The environment at schools is not necessarily one I would call 'safe' either. There have been numerous shootings and cases of teachers being hurt by students.
I strongly agre about the entertainment world. It is amazing to me that it used to cost a nickel to watch a motion picture (thats where the term Nickelodeon derived). Tickets to the Super Bowl were 10,000% cheaper than they are now. It is not that the entertainers are overpaid it is that we as consumers overpay for the product. Why go to the movies and pay 8 bucks a pop when you can rent the movie for less than 5 bucks and invite a small army to watch it? It is because of capitalistic societal conditioning that tells us "Dinner and a Movie" is the way to go. We have ourselves to blame, hell if I could be a movie star or pro athlete I would.
Fuzz,
While I respect your opinions and agree with most of it, I however do not agree about the teachers. I feel they should be paid more. Sure cops, fireman and others of that lot should be well compensated for their duties as well. The problem lies in the fact that our tax $ is being wasted on things that do not help the general public at all. It's also being placed in the pockets of crooks. If you take all the money being stolen by crooked politicians and the money that's being wasted on just rediculous stuff then it would be enough compensate all the police, fireman and teachers giving them what they deserve.
See your beef with the teachers is misplaced. You can't teach a bunch of spoiled kids who do not want to learn because they think they know everything already.
fuzzboss
Overpaid athletes go hand in hand with overaid public servants legislators who haven't a clue when it comes to curing the nation of its ills.
The me generation has now arrived and it's all part and parcel of the dumbing down of the country.
See my latest within this forum and let me know what you think as to the merits of the piece ?It's written under this guise and is titled Shall We Dance ? Jason Taylor Goes Hollywood ! I'll look forward to reading your coments.
IMagine if anyone who makes over 10 mill a year was forced to contribute 500,000 to charity or toward some kind of economic program, can people really not live off 9.5 mill. Of course that would be an absurd proposal, but the point is why do people with that kind of money not make a serious difference in the world? When I think of how much some people do on a $100,000 a year salary, imagine having 100 times that!
SRM: Thanks for the comments. My complaint about the teachers is still valid....."They" are well-paid overall..........I go back to a time when the teacher taught, actually taught. They had no aides and dealt with unruly students which was always supported by the parents, no matter what the student said. AND they earned next to nothing for doing this....now......My Johnny is a good boy, you're wrong........it is your fault he won't/can't learn etc., etc.
Gambit: Thanks for stopping by, really. Teachers, by and large, are in it for only the money anymore (my opinion). True, they do have it tough at times, especially in the inner cities.....that is the parents' fault. But I still will contend, when it is added up, they do make good money AND it is steady work, no threat of layoffs or termination.
FUZZ--Great post and its a subject that erks me also sports figures in general weather it be the athelete or GM in fact everyone assc, with them are getting richer by the second and its incredible the amount of money they make off of merchandising stuff made in china then turning huge proffits and ticket prices and like you said just the concessions it makes it hard for the average family to go and enjoy a ballgame anymore and then some poor ol.player breaks a fingernail and sits on the bench making more than me and my wife combined . jus kills me bunch of overpaid premadonas...but I cant hate them in fact wish I was one..wonder if any team needs a 42 yr old bench warmer..

Ramp/Top: Seems we are on the same page again......
Thanks for stopping by. I have been over to the "other" site to check your writes, some I could not find.....WE are too damn spoiled and it shows.
JW: Hey, thanks for coming by....been thinking of this for some time....Going to be contronversial, isn't it? Why do we do it?? Remember the amount you spent at the circus recently?? All things being equal, my day(s) growing up were heads above what we have today.
Hey Fuzz, cool new avatar pic...........Interesting post that appeals to a lot of my concerns as well.
The school systems are very much the main feeder in the tax trough. In New Jersey the tax state (formerly known as the garden state) it will cost you $5,000 to $10,000 a year to pay taxes just to live in your own home.
So why is it that every year before the school year begins we receive a letter with a list of school supplies that are not issued buy the school system?
BTW...........I have a recent post on NBA officials and Superstars who get special treatment up............Check it out. It's called: Hey Ref. What are you blind!
BTW, I agree teachers are overpaid. Here's why: first of all, their salary is based on 10 months, not 12, so making 40k a year is really making 48k.
Second...the tenure they have is ridiculous. Some teachers who have gone 10 years cannot get fired, even if they do lousy jobs, while the new ones who are doing very well, get pink-slipped. It's happening all over California...the pink-slipped teaches are the brightest ones we have, while some of the older ones who no longer care get to keep their jobs. Unions working? Not.
EQ: Thanks for visiting....Right 'bout Jersey, homeowners are taxed to death. Knew a few who moved to Penna area and commuted cause taxes were big time cheaper...dunno how they sold their houses, mebbe to people moving from New York...
Lisa: Thanks for the backup 'bout teachers. Here in Pa, most are 9 month positions....actually 180 days required to teach and students be in school..... I made more money as a Corrections Officer, but that was 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year. Good teachers get sc....ed.
Fuzz, I agree teachers are overpaid. I have 4 kiddos and have had to spend a lot of time teaching them what was missed in class. For 1 child it was cursive, for another spelling, for another reading. I got lucky with one of them. If they are doing their job well, they could be paid more. But they are not!!!
Sportgeeker: Thanks for the visit. You are victim of Fuzzboss's 10 percent rule, ie, 10 percent of anything is no damn good. A lot of teachers are good, but.......
Ah...Cboy, thanks for coming by. Lot of #### is still rattling around in my noggin....how I long for the bad old days.
One thing I forgot to mention....Johnny Unitas worked in the Pittsburgh steel mills when not playing football......
It is far easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter the gates of heaven.
Have you heard that the politicians in Washington have voted their selves an increase of $15,000.00 a month for their pension fund when they reitre. Cost of living increase mind you.
Agreed many teachers are way overpaid for what they do. The dedicated ones are getting their hands tied behind their backs as far as teaching the three Rs. Seems the liberals want them to teach more about freedom of choice to rape, plunder, desicrate the churches, desecrate the flag, destroy family values, and the laws of the land. Humanism at its finest is prospering..
Most all of them had off season jobs back in the day. Im not mad at a man for making his, but look at Barber for my team....He got what, 45 million, and he hasnt even played a full season! 16 mill guaranteed! Of course Jones has more $$ than sense. His 45 mill makes the next part time back think he is worth 50--Where does it end???
fuzzboss
Rumour has that if Hillary doesn't win the Democratic nomination. She'll be prepared to wallk through the Senate and the Halls of Congress naked. Pluck out my eyes now for God's sake ! The thought is too much to bare !
And to revisit the overpaid athlete conundrum . If the likes of the Yankees are prepared to pay A-Rod $300m including incentives over the next ten years. There's not really much that the common man or fan can do about it. One way or another he's still going to end up being scr*ewed.
I'm in favor of EVERYONE making as much money as they can. Lets say there are 2,000 baseball players---out of the billions of people on earth---who are talented enough to make mad bank. If your profession only had 2,000 others in it, on earth, some people might think you were overpaid too.
It comes down to, if you think the athletes are overpaid, don't watch them. That's the only choice you have in how much the owners pay the athletes.
Who are we to say someone else is making too much? Greed is a hard word to define, as no one else knows how much is enough for me, or what my 'fair share' is.
Photogr: Thanx for coming by....all you have said is true. I find myself being mostly satisfied....but would like to have just one agents commission, just once!
Cboy.....will never end, as long as there are deep pockets and fans; plus taxpayers who fund everything else it seems...photogr brought up a good point about the 15,000 per month pension...talk about a pay grab!
Ramp: Hillary nekid! That would be something NOT to see.........Looking at Obama, I wonder..........are the persons of color voting for him because he is, or do they believe him? Either way, we won't know until he is President....course the Prez is more or less a figurehead anymore......special interest groups and lobbyists run the States.
Hanahan: Thanks for coming by.....I disagree. What people get paid relates directly to price of goods and services. I have lived long enough, some may say too long, to remember a BIG loaf of bread for 5 cents, a BIG Clark bar for the same 5 cents. Course wages were less, but money went a hell of a lot further. My parents reared 3 kids with all expenses at less than 80 dollars every two weeks...Dad was able to purchase, for cash, a new car in 50, 51, and 52...finally got in the 52 what he wanted. To rear three kids today......HA!
As one hairy gor llia would say to another, them darn humans still haven't evolved yet. The officials you speak of have 2 homes most of the time when we have homeless walking the streets, and many are not related to drink and drugs. Just plan bad luck with losing jobs etc.
Dont get me going on the celebrity thing on how much money they make. Will they go in to a bruning house to save a life, I don't think so, will they walk the streets to protect us, I don't think so. So why in the heck do we even put up with it. Stop buying the mags and stop going to the movies for a year.
I'm really tired so goodnight fuzz from across the pond. cheers
Wow Fuzz; you sound as pizsed off as me? You go boy. I'm behind you with the exception of the phrase "relativly safe Environment" for teachers. there are a few schools where i wouldent dare send my children.
Evil quaks is wright about them Jersey taxes, I was at 6000 last year on a four bedroom ranch
And i dont know where Lisa H gets $40,000 ? Here in my neck of the woods, Teachers with any tenure are making 70-$80,000 a year with a killer pension and benefit plan.
And these poor athletes and celebrities, i cant even go into the polatitions. Now youve done it! Now im pizsed! Thank you !!
Mr Blue@Orange!! Thank you for your the visit. Always a pleasure to hear from you. Yep, know about the taxes in Joisey.......penna's climbing also, but........I wish some states would take a look at West (by God) Virginia...they have no property tax per se...the state funds the schools with state sales taxes of 6 percent and 4 percent...course teachers complain they are not getting enough, might be true, but have a great pension and health benefits. We are supposed to get a break on school taxes with the casinos-if that is to be believed, I got some bottom land in Mississippi for sale (swamp land is also bottom land) cheap................Mebbe the rich should share the wealth...make that a law.
Too, I wonder how a teacher in Jersey survives, even at that salary...housing is expensive. Heard of teachers in NYC damn near qualify for food stamps at that salary cause of housing costs.......
Well, I'm a teacher. So, I guess I'll give you the teacher's perspective. At this point, I'm not complaining about my salary. I have no problem working a second job, in fact I'm in the process of finding one right now. I'm complaining about the fact that my school has no money for anything at all. We're lucky if we have paper for our copy machines. It's hard (not impossible, but hard) to teach when you've got very little in the way of teaching materials. 'Course, I live in Florida, which seems to be where education has gone to die.
Jgrace: Thanx for popping in....you know where I'm coming from, don't you? You live and teach in one of the states that school funding sucks and the pay is never that good compared to other states. You would think that with all the tourist money that comes in, the state would be better off, ah well......
fuzzboss The electoral process here is far too long. And it has grated on the nerves of the public. And then we have the Clinton campaign machine believing that it was preordained that she'd be the recipient of the nomination.
Had she lined up all of her ducks in a row she wouldn't find herself in her present predicament. And for a woman who's allegedly informed. She's shown me that she knows very little as to world issues let alone the domestic and economic ones.
In truth it's been more style than substance from all three candidates. Too much damn hoopla and very little to offer the electorate by way of design and orginality.
Ramp: Too true......course I am of the opinion that the Prez is no more than a figurehead anymore. The REAL power doesn't even lie with Congress.....the real power in the good ole USA is the lobbyists and special interest groups, good or bad.
You know they said the British Empire was supposed to never let the sun set on it, because it was all over the world. They fell.
The Roman Empire. So strong and thy had a hold over everything. So dominant a country. They fell.
The United States. We have control all over the world and for what. We pay them to be there. We build back their countries after wars and support every person in every country but our own. It will fall too.
I am an old #### living in Southwestern Pennsylvania, about 60 miles or so southwest of Pittsburgh. AND I MEAN AN OLD ####!! Served over 35 years in Law Enforcement as a Police and Corrections' Officer.
