Just learned that longtime voice of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Myron Cope, has passed from this life. Myron, his screeching voice rising and falling did "color" for the Steelers until a few years ago when failing health forced him to retire after a throat operation.
His colorful language with the yoy's and so on both ticked fans off and amused them at the same time. I found myself, more times than not, turning on the radio to listen to Myron and Bill Hilgrove give the play by play as the Steelers waged war on an opposing team.
I also enjoyed watching him do the sports from time to time on WTAE, Channel Four Pittsburgh, an ABC Network affiliate. Myron Cope will be missed greatly by the people of Pittsburgh.
Myron Cope was also the originator and inventor of Pittsburgh's "Terrible Towel". He will be missed.
Hated to have to make this my first post in such a long time. Myron was an icon, not for just his colorful career with the Steelers, but for his community activities also. Wave your "Terrible Towel" in salute to Myron. RIP Myron. Fuzz
If you wish, google "Myron Cope", interesting news reports on this sad occasion.

The Post Gazzette did a really nice piece on him today. A must read. This was an accomplished man, so much more so than many realize. Genius, really, but he wore his heart on his sleeve, enjoyed life to the fullest and had little time for people who didn't. You always knew his thoughts on the Steelers, and his emotion was geniune. His exciteable nature produced some of the strangest morphs of English ever heard on the increasingly generic airwaves.
One of my favorite memories was listening to a game where the Steelers kept doing these 'pooch kicks' to keep it away from the other team's return man. Myron kept going back and forth between 'pooch kick' and 'pooch punt' until finally, in one of his signature exciteable moments, he said 'pooch ####' .... I thought I was going to die laughing ... Jack Fleming quickly broke in with play-by-play .... I'll never forget it, or Myron, for that matter.
I'm no Steeler fan, but sorry to hear this. Myron was one of those announcers that you had to love even though he was definitely on the enemy's side. He was who you wish your own color man was. A true one of a kind.
Thanx Spin/Country. Watching a report on KDKA about it now. Brought some tears, I remember him well. Was able to read all the reports thru the google. PG definitely good piece. Fuzz
I would hazard a guess that something will be done, at some point. I don't any sportscaster except Bob Prince has been with a sports org as long. 35 years!!! And only left because of his voice , difficult speaking. Fox did a nice piece, adding it all together. Fuzz

You know it's a sad day for a city when an icon dies. Especially one that's appreciated across the genre of sports announcing and analysis.
Tough day for not only the city of Pittsburgh but the state of Pennsylvania as a whole.
Hey Fuzz... it's sad. I also put something out there on him today. I'm no die-hard Steelers fan, but I was exposed to them enough during my college days that I really got to know Myron Cope... my best goes out to Steeler Nation...
Top/KSP! Thanks for stopping by. I remember Myron from the first. Ran his mouth so much, I went yoi! But the man grew on everyone and had a heart as big as the world. True gentleman. He was missed the day he decided to retire from the booth. Fuzz
I am an old #### living in Southwestern Pennsylvania, about 60 miles or so southwest of Pittsburgh. AND I MEAN AN OLD ####!! Served over 35 years in Law Enforcement as a Police and Corrections' Officer.
