Gators--Up the Creek without a Paddle???
Aug 07, 2007 | 7:44PM | report this

So now we start finally getting the lowdown on what's happening with the quarterback position.

Well, you see there's this problem and we're only 4 weeks from the opening game.  Meyer flat out doesn't know what the final decision is going to be.  He's even thinking Tebow might not be the starter..

Newton (a real freshman) looked like he was the front runner to becoming part of a revolving quarterback position, because Waggener ( a junior college transfer) got injured. And then there's John Brantley (a real freshman prep All-America quarterback ) who we thought was going to be redshirted this year, is doing much better than expected, and Meyer thinks he won't be redshirted after all.

Meanwhile Newton has an injured back, Wagner missed all of Spring Practice and according to  offensive coordinator Dan Mullen--"it's all wide open"

Now as a Gator fan this bothers me.  Can we base a team on all these unproven guys?  I have my doubts.  We're not going to be firing on all cylinders until well into the season.

I appreciate the fact that most of you are cheering and saying UF deserves it.  And it's true that Meyer won last year on Zook's recruits.

So my orange and blue faith is still intact, but it's taking a little extra push to get my brain thinking this is going to turn out well.

Tebow's going to be the guy, FHT.

Like Stevie Wonder sang, "Doncha worry 'bout a thang."

Meyer's just saying the right things in front of the media. Tebow will take the bulk of the snaps and do just fine.

The Gators need to worry more about the defensive side of the ball, especially early.

Hogfan, Oh, yeah, I'm fully aware of our deficiencies on defense. I'm just wondering if Tebow's going to be good enough--and who is the strong guy to back him up.

When do we ever beleive what a head coach says? It's all about keeping your opponents off balance until the first game that this and making your players fight for the position. I had a girlfriend that did that to me. Made me fight for the position...HA

This is the last thing Meyer really wants. And as far as I'm concerned I'd rather see Tebow starting than someone else. He's deserving of it, merely on what he did for the team least year. He provided the spark as and when it was needed. Something that couldn't be said of Leak during certain stretches of a game.

I wouldnt worry too much. Its like Rev said its more of a media thing. The old "we dont know where we are right now". Its all BS and I would expect TT to get the majority if not all of the snaps. Meyer is never satisfied, which is good for Gator fans. He doesnt want anyone to get too comfortable, not even the QB. I heard some stuff from some guys on the Bucks boards that said that Meyer was all over TT but until I see video proof of him flat out dogging I am taking it as Meyer being Meyer and wanting it perfect. I did however get to see a pretty good video of Major Wright lighting up Rainey that caused the whole D to celebrate on the practice field.

Tebow is your starter. Period.

I'd most certainly like to think that'd be the case but stranger things have happened over the course of Meyer's tenureship as the coach. But I have faith in his instincts and know that he'll end up making the right decision.

Myer and Pete Carroll are in a situation that a hundred other coaches in cfb would love to have! Trying to figure out who is gonna start. That is a good problem to have! I think Tebow is still youre starter when the season begins, I think Myer is just not telling the media anything.

Thanks for all of your positive comments. I have a lot of faith in Meyer, so whatever he does I know it's what's best for the team. This statement just rattled my cage a little--well a lot.

Wilson--glad to hear from you

Buckeez--nice to hear from an OSU fan.

Nos--I guess you hit it in a nutshell, but who's going to be the "go to" guy if Tebow's stuff isn't working??
Tophatal, always enjoy communicating with you!

Tim will be the starter, he has the credentials and the knowledge of the game.He has tasted the atmosphere of the college game and I believe it is to his liking. I do have concerns on defense, but hopefully by week 3, we will have a group that will have the confidence to perform under pressure and we have the luxury of playin the Tennessee game in "the Swamp", that will give them a little more incentive to perform!! Urban sounded pretty confident about Tim during the Media day on Friday, and he sounds like he is growing more confident in the defense.

Gooooooooooooooo GATORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I read today that tebow is 1, newton is 2, and brantley is 3, but that is not in stone. And it doesnt mean brantley will redshirt.

ABOUT ME

funhistoryteacher
I'm a die-hard University of Florida GATOR fan, proud supporter of two national championships
in 2007 and one in 2006. Yes I do teach History. Some of you are saying B0000RING, but I find it fun and so do my students. I also support the Oklahoma Sooners especially when they're doing well. . I'm a huge fan of NCAA sports, somehow it loses its flavor when they get paid. I have no children, except the hundreds I teach. I'm old as the hills, so don't bother to hit on me--as if anyone would!!!.
