On posts on the fantasy boards to posts on blog sites, it appears that Pac 10 fans need to assert their superiority over those "poor chillin" in the Southeast.
Most SEC fans think the teams and coaches in the Pac 10 are good. Why do we have to hear justification and ridicule from Pac 10 fans continually?
I think Southern Cal has the best shot at a national football title. My friends and I can evaluate teams and coaches just as well as folks on the west coast.
All of the conferences have pluses and minuses, everyone doesn't agree on what makes a good coach, but to consistently belittle one conference and its coaches seems a bit much. As in --Don't Y'all have something better to do?
Marty, no I'm not. It happened on the fox fantasy message boards for college football, the basketball tourney, and continues on the football message boards now. I haven't noticed that many blogs that mention it. I'm just wondering what the deal is.

lionsman57-- I may be one of the least cocky SEC fans around. I realize that there are rabid SEC fans and they say obnoxious things, but I'm not in that category. So, you can call me stupid, or crazy--but please don't call me cocky!
Actually you're totally entitled to your opinion at any time!

Fun....lol....the great thing is there IS a rivalry. As long as everyone realizes that it is tongue and cheek, I don't sweat it. Have fun with it....your Gators are on a roll and you should defend them. (But it won't happen again this year because of all the outstnding D-personnel you lost)
Enjoy the banter, and if someone says something stupid, just give it back. But remember, most of it IS tongue and cheek and harmless Homerism.
PS...most of the SEC respects the pac 10? Disagree..all I hear is that it is top heavy with USC and the rest of the conference is weak. I need to hang around your fans more often. :)
Lisa-thanks for the advice. I need to grow a thicker skin. You would think I would have one after all these years of teaching, I sure as hell don't take all of my students seriously!
And you're right, I'm just hoping UF ends up in a bowl this year--any bowl! Defense isn't the only problem, Tebow hasn't proved a thing to me yet!

HIST....I have thin skin too...I get way to defensive about my team. (sigh) Florida's fans will give the gators a huge lift, but agree on Tebow...he has only been tested by 3rd rank D's and has only run a single wing. He looks like the prototype QB though, and a helluva Coach to teach him the ropes!
This is one of the more recent posts on the college football message board:
"Cal will beat Tennessee at the season opener at Berkeley which will give them a huge boost in the rankings. The Pac-10 will be better on paper than the SEC, BIG 10 AND BIG 12, which will give SC a run for their money like they did last year. The Pacific 10 is just getting better every year because they all have one goal BEAT USC AND win the Pac 10 Championship. Move over SEC!"
Now that is a good example of the ramblings being posted that verge on the hilarious! Why even mention the SEC?

Love the new avitar. Tebow was always cheered to come out and punch it in the endzone. He was an exciting backup to watch for sure. I hope he does well, and I hope the fans have a little patience. I also think Bama will do better than people think, and Saban will stay long enough to regain face. Before USC's great run the past couple of years, the Pac-10 never get's respect. Mainly because of the time difference. You'd think the east coast would take advantage of the time split and give us more football. The least media could do is allow reporters to stay up late enough to give us the word. Good stuff, everyone know the SEC is tough:)
Steeler--loved your latest blog. I'm sure the Gator fans will be patient with Tebow, just hope the crazier ones don't get much publicity! You have a good point about the time difference and I lament not being able to watch as many Pac 10 games as I would like--or for that matter hardly any games out of the SEC. I have to depend on the media for info--and we all know how accurate that is! Thanks for stopping by.
I'm not a Gator Fan , but in my humble opinion Tebow is the perfect QB to run Meyers spread option attack. after a brief adjustment period I think the Gators offense will be even better next year. Lisa's right about the defense though its gonna be tough to repeat this year.
that Cal post was hilarious. Cal has no RB and lost their best CB....they will live by the pass and die by the pass...if they couldn't beat Vols with marshawn ####, they certainly can't beat the Vols w/o him. The vols by 16 over the bears.
Fulltime--I couldn't agree with you more, when the offence gets going it will be awesome. UF recruited a bunch of defensive guys, but they can't immediately replace all the ones who went to the NFL!

Sishuster--I'm not even going to start comparing conferences. They're all unique. I think that having Oregon and Washington up there with "the big guys" helps a lot!
I don't think it is the comparison, but the illusion that every SEC fan has that they are unequivicolly the best conference. Sure, you have had some recent success, but hasn't every conference during their own particular run? The SEC fans just need to step back, take a deep breath, enjoy the recent success, and then realize that there are just as many good teams in the other BCS conferences as those that lay claim in the SEC. The ball WILL start rolling the other way. The question is: Will the SEC fans be able to accept it?
Nostro...very well put. And far from me to say the big 12 will be the beast this year. They will make a huge step. The SEC is tough, but so are some others.
By the way teech....your blog is orange and blue, is that on purpose? (LOL)
Nos, I couldn't agree more. I've lived through a bunch of those shifts! I don't think being in the SEC is all that it's cracked up to be. You can't escape without one or two losses, you have to play in a playoff game. Not fun.
Like I said all conferences have their own unique features and some will come up big, some will get rid of teams, some will add teams, etc.
I don't know anybody that hates USC (u suck california) at all. But the PAC 10 is not a real strong conference and the stats bear that out as does bowl games etc. The SEC is the strongest conference and even the media says so (man I had to use the media to make an arguement. I may implode). All I know is this I can hardly waite for it to begin... and see who is left standing at the end... the SEC this year is going to be real tough and I don't see any undefeated teams coming out of it again.
Bayou Dog--You're entitled to your opinion..but remember there were times when they weren't that strong, and we resented the hell out of people who continually told us we were a second rate conference.
Steeler--High praise from a great writer..I just write stream of consciousness. Now, my students on the other hand have to produce rough drafts as well as final products--is there a double standard--you bet!
Ya but I have a short memory and deny any knowledge of being second rate or inferior... what were you talking about? Still the smartest man in my house
Congrats, it must be great to have long-term memory loss! lol How many people live in your house? I only ask to see how many mentally challenged people we have to watch out for when we go to LSU games! (Just kidding)
USC = PAC 10 Ha, Ha,
As a USC fan I thought I would just state what everybody outside the PAC 10 is thinking. I honestly think it is a lot of time difference PAC 10 knowledge.
Kill Surf--I do think the time difference causes those of us on the East Coast to not appreciate what goes on in the Pac 10. I'm not sure we're all dumb enough to think USC=PAC 10. Just as I'm sure Florida doesn't equal the SEC. I'd just like to be able to watch a lot more PAC 10 games without paying big bucks to do it!

Funhistoryteacher---you made my point. Why could you not quote another PAC team and said put a woopin. You couldn't. Hey Michigan (and Notre Dame) are not top ten programs (but are hyped and package that way) With all that said, USC has one of the finest programs in the nation in terms of recruiting. However, the weak PAC 10 schedule does not challenge them and mold them into a great team. Still a darn good team.
I started this out saying that I'm wondering if Pac 10 teams are paranoid, because they keep saying how much better they are than the SEC. Now, you're making them more paranoid!
Now, come on funhistoryteacher!! You read alot of the same posts I do, and you know most, not all but most sec fans think its the sec at the top, and then everyone else! Names like" the pacifier-10, or the big-2" ring a bell? When you have fans writing #### like that, it makes people like me go slam crazy!! Hats off to all schools and the teams that play for them!I just trash talk to tick people off like ladygatorfan. As they say here in sc.,ain't no lady thar!!Look forward to seeing your'e response,C-YA RUFFNECKS p.s. Bayou dog is the typical sec response we always here.I dont want to start quoting games but, played auburn in a home and home series, won both, and the same with arkansas, and we all know what happened in those games! Anyway, again, c-ya and as usual, lsu is AGAIN OVERRATED!!

Okay, I was wondering if any of the "big guns" from the Pac 10 would show up! And here is one of the greatest. Yeah, I couldn't and can't stand obnoxious SEC fans either. LadyGator got under my skin. So I went a little far saying most SEC fans respect the PAC 10, call it literary license! The football message board probably had the most obnoxious SEC fans..but you chose to pick on BSU because you got a better reaction from him. At any rate you and I are probably going to agree to disagree on this topic. Good to hear from you. Have you been to any foreign countries lately?
On a sadder note..do you have to pick on me when my favorite basketball coach has signed to go to the NBA. I wish him the best, but I just hope he makes it in the NBA without losing too much more hair!
PS-As I recall it doesn't take that much to make you go slam crazy! C U all

dont worry about wilson wuffneck, he knows he belongs to a one horse conference, its amazing how much he brags about sc beating the likes of arkansas and auburn... guess what willy, florida hasnt lost to arkansas since they joined our conference... we play them, we beat them... no big deal to us. why do you feel like its the greatest accomplishment of sc since their inception? and why does everyone pretend like this is a johnny come lately conference? we have been the best overall conference from top to bottom for the past 15 years now, with no end in sight. the pac ten is a slow has been conference. dont forget about the beating fsu gave to ucla just after ucla gave sc their beat down!
I'm a die-hard University of Florida GATOR fan, proud supporter of two national championships in 2007 and one in 2006. Yes I do teach History. Some of you are saying B0000RING, but I find it fun and so do my students.
I also support the Oklahoma Sooners especially when they're doing well. . I'm a huge fan of NCAA sports, somehow it loses its flavor when they get paid.
I have no children, except the hundreds I teach. I'm old as the hills, so don't bother to hit on me--as if anyone would!!!.
