Why is everyone writing about hating Noah and the Gators?
Mar 29, 2007 | 8:49PM | report this

I don't understand the wave of posts and articles (there's even one on Fox Sports) specifically saying they hate Noah and then the Gators because of him.

He's a different personality, no doubt about it.  But he's really into the game and his antics are genuine and not meant to entertain, but to motivate him and his team mates.  Ok, he looks a little different too, but #### remarks certainly aren't called for! And constant comments about the pony tail--what are we back in the 50's when everyone had to come out looking like a cookie cutter duplicate.

Why don't writers concentrate on the game the Gators play, their unselfishness and ability to work together?
Sorry, they are the defending champions, no real need to pick on them for that either!  I'm a little fed up with the whining.

You will undoubtedly hate my latest post. Although I wish you and the gator faithful the best in their back to back championship run.

i admit i dont like noah all that much. the chest thumping and mouth-running he did after florida secured its spot in the final four sealed the deal for me.

i also dont think he will be much more than an average nba player.

but as a college player, he gets the job done, as do all the gators. i respect all of them who gave up nba millions to defend their nat'l title.

props to the gators. i believe some of the dislike is due to nothing else than the constant #### kissing the media has been doing for the last few months. eventually, even if you like a team/player, it gets old sometimes to keep hearing some expert brag about the same thing over and over again.

#1-I think you're being a little sensitive 'cause you're a fan. I haven't seen a large amount of negativity toward the Gators. Rather, I've seen lots of people picking them to win. But I understand your perspective.

#2-Much of any dislike for the defending champ comes with the territory, as many people don't want to see the champ repeat. It's easier to root for someone else.

#3-There are a lot of writers who concentrate on the game the Gators play. I've seen them and read them. They're out there, you just have to choose what you're going to read, I guess.

Good luck in the Final Four, even though I hate Noah, Florida is WAY overrated, and Billy Donovan still lives with his mommy and wears Pink Panther pajamas!! (This paragraph was a joke.)

Good luck on becoming the first team to repeat since Duke in the early '90s.

Actually as a Gators fan, I have to say that I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaattttte the chest bump. I hate it when every player does it.

I played ball and I'm not down with his antics but its hard not to love his work-rate. I love the Gators and I love Noah, I could just do without his "antics".

FHT, I think journalists are doing a little of both.

As a Gator alum, I'm very conscious of the national media attention we're getting. Most has been favorable, as Gottlieb, Vitale and others think we're the best team in the nation and due to repeat.

However, articles about how Noah gets criticism on the road is still news and should be reported. Remember, everyone other than Duke fans hated Laettner back in the day as well. Hopefully, Noah will be having the last laugh Monday night.

And I don't have a problem with Noah showing emotion. That's him, that's his game. In fact, I think the rest of the team feeds off it.

Oh My!!! When the Gators lost those games in February, the sportswriters were saying they were not hungry enough and that Noah has NOT shown ANY of the emotion that he usually does and they questioned the Gator's drive to win. I think that sportwriters run out of things to write about, have a deadline and need a paycheck. Thus, we are reduced to a "E" Entertainment soundbite.

First it was the hope for a Cinderella win, then, dislike, then fear, and now maybe dislike for a repeat; but it's all good. You're still in there.

Nostradomus--Thanks for the words of cheer

Cuxiffer- I've read your blog and understand where you're coming from. I agree that he probably won't be great in the NBA.

Reverend--Thanks, I'm aware o####reat deal of positive media. I have to question people when they are down on someone because they express themselves in a different manner. He is valuable to the Gators.

Ricko--You're exactly right, I'm a tad sensitive about the Gators, but I'm also sensitive about unneeded criticism of someone's actions. Not everyone is model "Jock"

funhistory ....... The prolem why they hate Joakim Noah so much is really one of envy. As if they possessed him on their team they wouldn't be the first to be complaining about his appearance let alone his apparent sexuality. If he's scoring 20 & 10 and with his defensive capabilities night in and night out , you'll not be hearing any complaints from his avowed supporters on the team that he'd be playing for. But then again what do these alleged fans really know about the game other than to behave like petulant adolescents ? It's either ' we hate your player' or 'he doesn't know how to play or he's got no game'. That should tell you all you need to know when you either hear or read those sort of comments. As they're either inane or just plain stupid ! Noah would be the envy of anyone of the other three remaining teams in the Final Four and that's a fact !

im a gator fan and the only thing that bothers me about Noah is listening to him talk in post game interviews. He tries to sound black (and that not ment to offend anyone but you all know what i mean) and thug after the game and he always ends hes interviews with "youknow what im saying".
I do agree Noah is overated but he is still a great player. Horford is clearly by far the best player on the team with Brewer second and a tie between Green and Noah for third with poor little lee in last for the starters

I happen to like it when players show us something different (as long as it isn't Ron-Artest different), and I also really respect Noah for coming back for another year. He would have been a top-5 pick had he come out, but he loves college and wanted another shot at a title. Not sure why everyone is so down on him.

For those of you out there complainin about Noah's deficiencies as a player. What does it matter how the player looks as long as he does and says the right things? That's inane example of people just being stupid. If Noah were playing on your own damn favorite college team and posting up big time stats. I doubt we'd be hearing any complaints at all !
Give the kid a break as he'll soon learn whether or not he's got the game to make it or not in the pros. That being said just be thankful you've at least got two teams in the Final that'll make a game of it !

If you want your team to be a elite team in sports ie; Yankees,Duke,NC,Pittsburg,New England to name a few then you have to be able to live with people Ragging on your team it comes with the territory,I should know being a Yankee fan for over thirty years, which has won the most championships in sports history. So if you can't handle it change to a losing team to root for like northwestern.

Noah is Noahs biggest fan. If you don't believe it, watch the video of the post game interview. All he did was watch himSELF on the screen. "THE BUCKEYES" will trim his mane. Gonna avenge the football disaster. "THE BUCKEYES" 76-72

sports = entertainment. if you're on tv, you are an easy target...you will be criticized wether it be your good merits or faults. your life story will be out in the open- i mean do we really need to know whos father is in jail and whos mother is a crack head? i dont mean to sound insensitive but they could keep some of their PERSONAL business out of the public so on a lighter note - discussing ones antics and the style of hair is just straight up silly and people find it funny to talk about. so lets not get too sensitive. athletes know they will be analyzed and evaluated they know what goes on in the media. college athletes and professional athletes go through vigorous meetings and training sessions (i cant seem to find the correct word) that discuss matters such as these. they learn to deal with the scrutiny that the media plays on and they just learn to deal with it and play the game. the way they choose to behave on and off the court is up to them. they know what theyre doing. so lets just sit back, let them play the damn game and watch them entertain us. Go Gators!

First of all Noah is a great player. C'mon, the kid can do it all! He's almost seven feet tall and he can run the floor like a guard....with the rock!! I don't like his antics personally, but he does what he needs to do for his team. His looks are easily explained by looking at his dad. Thats just the way he rolls. People hate what they cannot understand.

As far as the hating, like a few of these people have pointed out, it just goes with the territory. If you are number one and the defending champs, then you have a bullseye on your back. Everybody hates the winners, except the fans of the winners. Florida, win or lose tonight, will go down as one of the great teams of all time. Do I want them to lose tonight...more than anything, but in the end I won't hate the Gators. They have a quality program with a great coach, who loves his kids. You can't hate that.

sadly, will have to miss the game, do not want to watch and jinx it. Hoping Florida wins, just for back to back, has not happened in a while. Plus, would be neat if Florida wins NC in two sports over the same opponent. Both programs have done great this year, kind of lost all the Wisconsin fans after 2nd round.

I don't think there is too much Gator hate, but there is some hate toward Noah. People always hate things they don't understand. I can't think of any team that wouldn't want a 6-11 forward with the intensity that he has that can run the court and be an impact player on both sides. It doesn't matter what people say, Florida will be holding up the throphy again.

congrats to the Gators. But I have to admit, I find him to be an attention grabber. He constantly tries to be the center of attention when THE TEAM is the reason why the gators won...great teamwork.
He is not the best player on the team, for sure, and yet, he acts like it. Maybe it's because the spotlight was always on his Dad?

His post interview game remarks were pretty classless. Thankfully, most us can move beyond that and recognize that all of his team mates aren't in the same laegue as him. Thank goodness.

Nice win gators! :)

Thanks for the Congrats Lisa. You're right, they definitely play and win like a team. A lot of people don't understand that the other four feed off of Noahs energy, enthusiasm, and demonstrations. Donavan encourages it. What ever--it works. He truly doesn't think he's the star of the team. I admit, he always makes wierd comments after the game. Usually when they do interviews later he drops his "#### style" and speaks coherently.

Well I hate Noah because he's a ####. He gave up being drafted in the Top 5 in the NBA (making mucho $$$) and he gave it up to make another Champsionship run.

Two college championships are good, but he can't get paid for those.

coltrgood17--either you didn't bother to read about me or you're implying that I'm a lesbian. Either way, I expect comments like that from people like you.

Verbal intercourse--he's not dumb, he doesn't care about the money, but he does care about his team and wanted them all to experience winning another championship. In the heat of a win he always uses his "gangsta" way of speaking. In other press conferences, he is poised and well spoken. He's a good student. You just don't respect someone who would give up the money. Last time I checked money doesn't buy happiness!!

I teach American History to eleventh grade students at Newberry High in Newberry Florida, a small town just west of Gainesville, before I came back to teaching I was the marketing director of an environmental engineering firm for 20 years. At any rate, maybe cause I had to do battle with men for so many years I'm more feisty than I probably should be. If I was mean or cruel, I apologize. I certainly wouldn't expect my students to act like that!!

I'm a die-hard University of Florida GATOR fan, proud supporter of two national championships
in 2007 and one in 2006. Yes I do teach History. Some of you are saying B0000RING, but I find it fun and so do my students. I also support the Oklahoma Sooners especially when they're doing well. . I'm a huge fan of NCAA sports, somehow it loses its flavor when they get paid. I have no children, except the hundreds I teach.
