What's up with OSU ranked second behind the Gators??
Feb 12, 2007 | 7:30PM | report this
Is this some wierd twist of fate or what?  So here we are right now ranked 1-Gators and 2-OSU.  I guess it goes to prove that both schools have a good sports program. I hope that OSU doesn't think they're going to take the big one.  Gators already beat them once! I'm going to claim (like SC did in football) that we really don't want to see a rematch!!

I am with you on this. I am USC football fan, but Badger BB fan, went to school in Wisconsin. How can Ohio State be #2, they lost to both #1 and #3 team. Go Figure. Good school, good programs, but still not better than Fl. and SC.

I know that maybe BB is rated differently than Football, but still that makes no sense.

funnyhistory ...It's all about the hype and exposure the teams are getting at the moment.
That has been the prevailing factor behind some of the inexplicable ways that many of the teams have gotten their rankings. We're led to believe that it's about the results but a lot of the time it play such a small part in the overall merit of things. As the networks are wanting to see the best matchups possible !

Alan- let me help you out here. OSU LOST to Wisconsin and got POUNDED by Florida and UNC by a combined 44 points. 26 by Florida and 18 by UNC. But, I guess just like in college football, OSU gets rewarded without really doing anything. Not sure who is doing the rankings every week, but I think it is time for a change, b/c these ####kers have lost their minds. I don't see OSU making it to the Sweet 16. However, I am sure they will recieve a #1 seed.

Follow the golden poll rule, "lose early, win later" this is how teams that loses to another team gets ranked higher. Poll 101 people

Being OVERRATED doesn't hurt either. Just ask OSU football.

I have to totally agree with Alan and Evil. How can Ohio State be ranked above WI when they lost to them and got thumped hard by FL??? They should be 3-4 at most.

Im not taking anything away from OSU they do have a good sports program. But give credit where credit is due, WI and FL and NC beat them. They should NOT be ranked higher than any of them.

Guys, we all know college basketball rankings are about when your losses occur.

Not to worry, Wisconsin travels to Columbus soon and that will settle the debate.

That matchup will probably determine who gets the number one seed in the midwest division.

Rankings don't matter in college basketball.

All that matters is that you get in the Big Dance.

Hoit, I'll disagree with you on one minor point.

Whoever's ranked higher in the polls at the end of the season will tend to get the regional seeds in the dance. College basketball's version of home-court advantage.

So in that respect, rankings do matter.

I see your point Rev.

Does anyone else think Ohio State is a team that could get knocked out real early in the tournament?

polls only used to determine seats and who goes to the NIT. and people will still be upset with where they are seated.

I see OSU's vulnerability. Remember, they got beat by 20+ in Gville. The Gators haven't lost like that in two years.

If OSU's opponent gets Oden in foul trouble (remember, he's still young) and the guards go cold, it could be over.

That happened in the UF game against Kentucky (Noah and Horford out and Humphrey cold) but they still managed to eke out a victory.

I wouldn't mind a rematch. I've grown quite fond of Florida beating Ohio State this year.

I think they should put the top 5 teams all in the same bracket and see who watches the championship when none of the top seeds are in it.

rev/hoit...I'll sorta disagree with rev on this one. if you can't win...no matter where you are...then obviously you don't deserve to be the national champs. that's why i hate to hear the crying of those who think their teams have been crapped by the committee....it's simple...win and you move on. If you don't...you don't deserve it!!! it's that simple!!! JUST WIN BABY!!!

Anything's possible in March madness, but I have a pretty firm belief that the Gators will, by sheer will and talent make the final four, if not return as national champions. They've got some tough games ahead, but they're up to it!!

do not say anything about upsets, you talk about it and it will happen to your team. SSSHHHH!!!

Rev...well, it's a combination of things. First, Roy Williams did his worst coaching job to date. Second, VaTech outhustled UNC, and third...UNC don't have the killer instinct...and it's very disconcerting. At this point, I wouldn't put them up there as title contenders any longer...simply because in every close game they've had this year...they've found a way to lose it. That don't sound like tourney material to me. As you can see, my confidence has dealt a major blow. Like I said...YOU NEVER KNOW!!!

Fatmaw--you're right, it could happen to anyone at any time, especially during March Madness. Alabama came after the Gators tonite with all guns blazing, but UF still made it a W and as Rev says..a W is a W!!

I can't believe how many of you don't give Ohio State the credit they deserve. I'm a die hard Buckeye's fan & they are a young team but they deserve to be in the top 5 no doubt. I don't know why we are ranked above WI when they did beat us. We play them in C-bus in about a week so that will settle that debate. No doubt Florida has a great bb team. They should because it's almost all the same players from last years National Champs team. The Buckeyes lost to 3 great teams this season...FL, NC, & WI. All 3 teams were all ranked in the top 5. They never lost to unranked teams like UCLA has. Stop hating on the Buckeyes. They have a great sports program & there's no denying it. Why do you think they are always in the top 10?? We'll all see what happens in March.

Calibuckeye--we don't hate OSU. It's just that some of their fans were soooo obnoxious during football season.. and they do tend to get good rankings, probably because their overall programs are good and because (in BB) their losses were early in the season. But, other than seeding, that all goes out the window when March Madness begins. May the best team win!!

Your right once March starts it all goes out the window. I would love to see it come down to OSU & Florida. There are obnoxious fans of every team all over. I think most of those people that were posting on the football page were kids. If they weren't they sure acted like it. Good Luck in March!
GO BUCKEYES!

ABOUT ME

funhistoryteacher
I'm a die-hard University of Florida GATOR fan, proud supporter of two national championships
in 2007 and one in 2006. Yes I do teach History. Some of you are saying B0000RING, but I find it fun and so do my students. I also support the Oklahoma Sooners especially when they're doing well. . I'm a huge fan of NCAA sports, somehow it loses its flavor when they get paid. I have no children, except the hundreds I teach. I'm old as the hills, so don't bother to hit on me--as if anyone would!!!.
