How many times in the past have you met someone famous? It could be a movie star.Or maybe a race car driver. Or even a rock star. Then maybe a couple months later you meet them again. Do they remember you? Probably not. Out here in Cali the company that I work for. We do alot of work at Warner Brothers studios. And of course its not uncommon to see maybe Charlie Sheen or George Lopez cruising around the lot. We have seen Clint Eastwood since he has his offices as well as his production company on the lot. I have also been in Joel Silvers office as well as George Clooney's.
I can still remember when Walter Matthau was still alive. You could always see him at a Dodger game, just as much as Jack Nicholson is at Laker games. But how many famous sports writers do you know? How many have you met? How many of them have answered your emails? How many of them actually answer there own emails instead of having someone from there staff do it? Without throwing any names in the mix. There is one certain female sportswriter. The best that she could write about was sealions and almost meeting Tom Cruise at the race in California.
Well I emailed her and asked why she would waste a perfectly good but rainy weekend writing about something like that? Of course I got no reply. Come to think about it. I have never gotten any reply from the few that I have written to. I guess once you become quote unquote famous or you get a paid writing job. You no longer have to worry about what anyone thinks. Well we here at Foxsports have our own writer who in my opinion is one of the best. Her writing skills are unmatched by some of the best that I have seen or read. She writes with a flair like no other. Her talent shines thru as you read word after word. You can feel the love that she has for the sport in all of her writings. Whether she is writing one of her very informative stories. Or she is showing her love by coming in and commenting on a post.
It makes me wonder how the 2 can be so different in there writing styles. One is so passionate about her writing. And the other is lets just say. Maybe just doing it for the paycheck. Is that really to harsh of a way to put it. I dont think so. Thats what makes us bloggers different from the writers. Writers write and bloggers blog. We dont have to worry about our boss telling us what we can and cannot write. Thats why alot of us can get really deep in our dicussions and hit on some touchy subjects. No money. No worry. Thats what also makes reading Kristen Valus posts so unique. She writes with no worries. She brings a really good writing style as well as alot of behind the scenes stuff that alot of us fans likes to read about.
She has also shown that its not only the men reporters who can chop it up with the drivers. And along with that. She also gets right in there and brings us back some good technical info that alot of fans likes to hear about as well as some really good behind the scenes stuff that alot of us fans dont know about. Kristen to me is setting the tone for future women reporters in Nascar. Not only women but for the men also. Look out guys there's a new sherrif in town. The really cool thing is that she will answer your emails. Which also tells us that she is still humble enough to be able to handle the big assignments and not forget who her friends are. How awesome will that be to go to a race and see her there. Then to have her come up and say Hi. But something even better then that is when she calls you by your name. And just the same way that she chops it up with the drivers. She will also chop it up with you.
Kristen Im sure that alot of us here at Foxsports will continue to support you on your journey to writing stardom. Is that putting it to lightly. I don't think so because you have earned it. You have more then proven yourself. Now its time to reach out and grab your star that is out there waiting for you. Because I am sure that there is one with your name on it. How cool is that. P.S. Just remember us when you do make it to the big leagues. This way once my grandkids get older. I can tell them that I know a Nascar writer by name and that she also knows me. Good Luck in all that you do. Im Out
3fan- You actually got me teary with this one! Being able to share my garage access with you all here on FOXSports is what inspires me. Afterall, what good is it if you cant share it with your friends!?
I hope to bring you guys more good insider info this year and am always open for suggestions or answering questions you might have. Just let me know! I also hope to always be a "blogger". Your right 3fan, the freedom is in not really having a boss! LOL
Thanks so much for the props, 3fan, wow! I am sure one of these days we will meet in the pits...
Well done, and well deserved, 3fan. Kris is by far, the best, and nicest, NASCAR blogger I've seen here. And, that's saying a lot, as 99% of the bloggers here are great guys and gals.
Kris....Thanks for always seeing the glass half full, and for your informative yet cheery stlye. You never fail to bring a smile to this old curmudgeon's face.
Great post, spoken from the heart. We are so blessed to have her here....she deserves all the great stuff happening to her now. She's kind, sweet, and she can talk with the boys. AND THE WOMAN CAN WRITE! You have to respect that. I wish her huge success, she knows I'm a big fan of hers, like everybody else here.
We love to see deserving people get their rewards, and the fact that she took on an impossible task, doing Cindi's Hot or Not, and added some of her own flair to it while still keeping Smoke on the Hot list speaks volumes about her good heart! She's a treasure!
And you are a sweetheart for reminding us how much talent we have here at Fox. Including yourself, sweetie. Bloggers can get hired to write here. Reach for the stars!
3FAN- Klvalus wrights with the love and excitment of the sport she loves. They are the best kind of wrighters. Its not a job to Kristen, its a life and I wish her all the best and also know she won't ever forget about the GGW Racing team and the bloggers that make up this forum.
Frevr3 I can say also you have done yourself well in your wrighting on here and I love reading your stuff as well. Someone once said, why don't pro wrighters like bloggers. Cause they wright with more passtion and excitment over something compaired to them making a living on ####.
Cheersssss.. This round is on Kristen.. I will take my CocaCola Classic, I am still drunk form the sex on the beach from Dwindy1 round a few days ago. I know cheepDrunk.
Thanks 3fan for putting your thoughts in writing and expressing so well what so many of us think of the Queen of the NASCAR writers.
For you Kristen, keep up the great work. The praise is heartfelt and well-deserved.
From a personal standpoint, having had the great fortune to work a race weekend with the IRL Ministry and see the drivers and owners and crews participating in a Sunday morning pre-race chapel service, I would love for you to do an article or two about that side of NASCAR. I know many of the drivers and their owners and crews share my strong Christian faith and I'd love to hear about that aspect of the sport which is rarely covered.
There are some great role models among the stars of Cup racing but that side is publicized too little because of their humility and, possibly, because some think fans wouldn't find it interesting. Jeff Gordon just recently hosted his 200th "Make A Wish" youngster which even I found surprising and amazing. Apparently only one celebrity has had more requests and accomodated more young people. That aroused my curiosity as to who has done more but also heightened my sense that there are some great stories to be told about guys who give so much back like Jeff and Kyle Petty and many others.
Whew, as usual I got too wordy - I don't have your talent for saying so much so concisely but do wish you continued success and hope you'll find time to give us some insight into the personal stories of faith among so many of the great people in racing.
I completely agree. I had to do research on a paper that I was writing and I asked her if I could do an interview through email. She emailed me back the next day and said that she would take time out of her weekend to answer my questions.
Of course her information was invaluable but more telling was her willingness to help me out.
Thanks!
The FOXsports bloggers really are the best! Thanks Everyone!!
Hoosier- I will see if I can get some behind the scenes info on their faith and the charity work they do...I know its very hard to get into drivers service and meetings without a hard card but will do my best!
WOW! Great read frevr3fan. As you all know I'm relatively new to the site. I feel honoured to be in the presence of a lot of excellent bloggers/writers and statisticians.
I don't blog or comment on eveything I read as this computer thing is all pretty new to me, but I do read everything on the NASCAR sites and enjoy all your writings. Keep up the great work, your writings are very informative and at times commical.
Kristen- You have some mad skills. All I can say is keep up the good work and make continue to make all of us proud.
Hanahan- You are so right. While sitting here thinking about my next post. I started to read her last post over and over. And man was it powerful. So I thought hey. Why dont I write about one of us. She really makes reading them fun
Yeemum- You are so right. In this day and age that we live in. There is alot of jealousy when it comes to recognizing when anyone does good. Instead most people will always look for something negative instead of the positive.
Lisa- Thanks. Alot of times we tend to overlook at all the talent that we have here on this community. Ive read alot of good stuff come that has come out of here. Not only in the Nascar section. But all over Fox. Whether its baseball, football, basketball or even golf. LOL some of the staff writers need to watch out. One of these bloggers just might be one of the next staff writer.
Lori- Dont ever sell yourself short. I also enjoy reading your posts too.
Moseby- Can I come along.
Forensic- You are so right. We are very fortunate to have her with us.
Hoosier- Thanks. All that I did was follow her lead. Then the rest just fell into place.
Mayer- A couple of months I also asked her for some advice. We emailed each other and the info that she gave me was priceless. And to think that she took the time out of her busy schedule even said alot more.
SLS- Thats funny. But Im sure that she will have no problem handling herself.
Rebell- Welcome aboard. Im sure that as the days and weeks go by. That you will see just how much everyone in here has a big heart not only for Nascar. But also for the other sports. There are alot of really good writers in here.
Photo- Yeah she is alot better then some of the other women sportswriters. I have read a few of them. And they just dont have the complexity that Kristen has. She can write about the drivers as well as some of the technical stuff.
Ahhh.. Frevr letting some know what we know. Kristen is great at telling the story behind the sport we love. Kristen writing about Nascar. What a combination. We are lucky to get to read it. As always Frevr touches a great subject...
I am a Nascar fan from Cali hoping to bring a diffrerent perspective to Nascar. And if not. At least I tried. I also love football, baseball, golf and basketball. I try to attend as many races a year as I can. Ive been to Kansas,Infine on,Phoenix,Ve gas,Californi a just to name a few. Ive been a fan going on about 20+ years. There is nothing like short track racing at Irwindale on saturday nights. Also love to watch and attend drag races. Of course John Force is my favorite driver. Im also a fan of Tony Schumacher. Maybe someday to be able to write about Nascar.
