Prediction for Next Season
Mar 06, 2008 | 7:27AM | report this

Here are some of my football predictions. These are things I think will happen sometime before the next NFL season kicks up (or slightly after). Some are long shots, but I thought this was a good place to get my ideas out. I encourage all comments, but please don't harass me if I say something you don't agree with. I tried to be nice in this blog, unlike my previous ones.

*Darren McFadden will be a Cowboy. (There is a slight bias here because I don't like the Jets and hope they don't land him, but I really do feel that Dallas will put a lot of effort into getting him.)

*Brett Favre will stay retired. (There's a lot of people saying that he'll change his mind, but if he does after all this media coverage, he'll just look like a ####.)

*Brian Brohm will have the best NFL career of any of the QBs in this year's draft. (I like Matt Ryan, but I feel like he's the next Matt Leinart. Great in college, decent in the NFL.)

*Aaron Rodgers will be okay. (Not great, not terrible...just okay. And in a weak division, he may even lead the Packers to playoffs, but I'll be shocked if their record is 10-6 or better.)

*Average kickers are going to begin being overpaid. (The Josh Brown signing was a good one, but they paid too much and now it's going to effect the whole league, but maybe I'm being to dramatic.)

*The Browns will make the playoffs as a wild card team. (They're still not good enough to knock off the Steelers, but that offense is going to be filthy next season, especially after they re-signed Anderson and signed Donte Stallworth. I didn't agree with giving Stallworth a 7-year deal, but that's another story.)

Feel free to share your own predictions. Hopefully mine won't be too far off this season :)

The media will spend too much time talking about the Patriots undefeated season that almost was.

I'm not sure why Mark Schlareth thinks Brett Favre will come out of retirement... unless that's just ESPN telling him to say that to boost their ratings.

wgillenh20: I think Pats fans and non-Pats fans both hope you're wrong, but you're probably right. Pats fans don't wanna be reminded of blowing it and non-fans just don't wanna hear about them period.

Rev: There's always the possibility that he'll change his mind, but like I said, he'll look like a jerk if he comes back now after so much talk about it.

here's another one - after the first game the Packers lose all you will hear is "Well if Brett Farve had been here......"

wgillenh20: That's a given. I'll take it one step further though, and say that John Madden will be the first person to say that. John Madden and Brett Favre are like Will Ferrell and that old guy Blue from Old School. John Madden: "Brett, you're my boy!"

Well I bet Frank Calliendo is already working on some material for what Madden will do now that Farve is gone.

Prediction: Even with all the signings, the Jets still won't get more than 6 wins and the Dolphins won't get more than 4.

With Favre retired, either Peyton Manning or Tom Brady will be injured and miss a significant portion of the season. I don't wish for this to happen, but it just seems like karma that Favre will keep the consecutive game streak for the decades to come.

With Brett Favre retired, John Madden will retire from television by mid-season, claiming he has no one else in the NFL to tell stories about...

With John Madden retired by mid-season, Frank Caliendo will leave Fox and sign with NBC to provide color commentary with Al Michaels on Sunday Night Football.

Banes: I agree with the Jets prediction. I think the Dolphins have a slight chance of getting as many as 6 wins this season. That might sound crazy, but I like the moves they've made in the off-season so far.

moseby: I hope one of those guys does break the streak, but in football it's insanely difficult not to get significantly injured for over a decade. Favre probably will keep the record for a long time, but someone will eventually break it. As far as Madden, I kinda hope he does retire. He's just getting too old. He's like Larry King...doesn't know when to quit.

With Frank Caliendo leaving Fox for the NBC Sunday Night team, Terry Bradshaw will become disgusted with Howie Long and Jimmie Johnson and resign from his Fox Sports duties, effective immediately.

With Terry Bradshaw resigning from Fox Sports, the brass will hire - you guessed it - Brett Favre to the Pre/Post Game Show. WHEW!

I like your predictions but I'm not to sure about the Brian Brohm one. Don't get me wrong I think he'll do just fine but to say he'll be better than Matt Ryan is reaching just as it would be if you swithched it around.

moseby: Nice way to finish.

gambitxx: I actually hope that Matt Ryan is excellent because I'm a Boston guy. I'm just not totally sold on him. He could very well prove my prediction wrong.

Coda - John Gruden will sign Terry Bradshaw to come out of retirement and QB the Bucs in 2009.

Ricky Williams will be busted for dope while smoking a joint on the field during a game. So instead of first and ten it will be ten to twenty for Ricky. Michael Vick will have a welcome to the cell block party for him. Michael will introduce Ricky to Tiny, Sweet Cheeks, Bubba and "Big" Hank. Then at the 2008 cell block draft, "Big" Hank will trade 5 cartons of smokes and a "b*tch" to be named later to get the number one draft spot. He will then draft Ricky to be his cell mate because "he looks purdy with that long hair".

moseby: I wouldn't be surprised if Gruden brought in Bradshaw.

wbillenh2o: LOL...But where does Pacman Jones fit in?

According to all the scouting and draft websites he goes to Tiny with the second pick. In an interview Tiny stated "I got some power pellets for Pacman to munch on!"

Ok that was wrong of me to say - bad me!

Hopefully McFadden will NOT be a Cowboy and that Dallas keeps MB3 and gets a mid round pick for a 10-15 C/G guy.

and a WR.

if dallas dont pick up a RB in FA i will bet JJ moves up w/ atl or oak to get dmac, i really think dmac is the real deal but everything remains to be seen, JJ does some crazy things in the draft i just hope he dont bleep it up this year. 22/28 picks arent really great players so us getting a Dmac for them would be a win in my book

Fastgto i was w/ you until today about Dmac but he is unreal and would give us that boost we need on offense and he could step in next season and be a factor like AP was for the viks, making life easier for our recievers

FastGTO: Besides the fact that his personal issues with women might be a slight distraction, (I heard something about a few women claiming they were pregnant with his kids...true?), I think McFadden would only improve the Cowboys. Another receiver wouldn't be a bad idea, but if they have a chance to land D-Mac...why not try it?

edclinchsaint: A week ago I would've said Obama, but with Hillary's surprise wins, she still has a chance. I don't like McCain or Hillary, so I'm hoping Obama comes out on top.

dallascowboys08: I think Oakland is a more plausible trade partner with Dallas. I think Atlanta has their eyes on Matt Ryan, so they wouldn't give up their pick easily.

ABOUT ME

freshfromthedeli
I'm your typical Boston sports fan. I love the Red Sox and Patriots. I just got into the Celtics this season, which makes me a hypocrite cause I usually talk badly of people who start to like their teams only when they're doing good. I've never watched a hockey game in my life. Nascar bores the living hell out of me and I'll never understand how anyone can watch a whole race sober. And I know very little about anything college-sport
s related. Non-Boston teams I like: NFL - Vikings, MLB - Cubs, NBA - Spurs and Suns Random players I like: Trot Nixon, LeBron James, Manu Ginobili, Randy Moss
