I wanted to write my thoughts about Robert Horry and it pretty much is a judgement call depending how you look at his plays both last night when he slightly gave a legal bump to an already injured David West and last year when it looked like he closelined Steve Nash, but Nash who is from Canada and apparently had some good hockey exposure took a dive and acted appropriately as well.
Yes friends I am a Spurs fan and want them to win but I also have a lot of respect for Robert Horry who has made big shots earning him the name Big Shot Bob and teams he has been on have won seven championships and could be eight if the Spurs come back this year.
But his hard play shouldn't be mistaken for cheap shots. If you go back to the game in the 1970's when Maurice Lucas, Elvin Hayes and Wes Unseld played you saw basketball that was more like football/hockey fights. Remember Kermit Washington's sucker punch of Rudy Tomjonovich? When you look at those kinds of players and cheap shots you will see that Robert Horry's play is a lot softer. No that doesn't mean Robert Horry is soft. It just shows that the NBA doesn't quite have the enforcers it used to have and the action is more cleaned up although events like the brawl at the Palace between the PIstons and Pacers or the Knicks Nuggets melee with Carmelo Anthony can happen.
So as I said before we jump down Robert Horry's back for hard fouls and play and/or cheap shots, lets just take a look at the NBA's past history of hard.cheap play and then we'll make a judgement. In conclusion I want the Spurs to win but I also want fair and clean play, but unforunately sometimes that's a judgement call that will always be debated and makes good media coverage and sports talk like we're having here friends. Let me know your thoughts and we'll be in touch friends. Have a great and productive day and best wishes. fenfan
90 % of the time a player goes down in the NBA, it's a dive, and often it will be the other player who is penalized for it. In hockey, the diver's are the ones who get the penalties for their childish actions. They lose so much respect as a result.
I would love to see the likes of Anderson Varejao, and others who flop left, right, and centre get technicals and fines for their plays. Flopping, diving whatever... it's a delay of the game, it makes marginal calls so much harder, makes the big guys look like a bunch of wimps...
When a player takes an obviously fake fall, it should be a no-call from the refs... if the player insists on aruing, he gets a tech...
Do you think Tony Parker would seriously be able to knock Shaq off his feet...?
What happened back in the glory days has nothing to do with what happened yesterday. The game has changed and had that been your player you would be saying the same. It was a malicious play, just watch it over in slow motion. When you set a screen you use body to pick a player. You don't cross your arm over your body and practicaly throw yourself into someones lower back. Say what you will but that's the truth. I know I played B-ball all my life up until I finished High school. It was a cheapshot plain and simple. Now every Voodoo practising person in New Orleans will be putting a gris gris spell on "Cheap shot Rob", hope he has God in his life.
"Cheap shot Bob" is at it again. He's old and slow. Can hardly jump. He could have gone down as one of the best clutch players of all time but his antics in the playoffs wipe out what was a respectable career.
Ever been hip-checked by somebody 100lbs heavier than you? Ever taken elbows to the kidneys? Your assessment of "just hard fouls" is based on your support for your team but if it was somebody doing it to them, I think you'd feel differently.
Old school NBA, he'd get his dues from somebody. Bet Byron has made note of it.
What you can't see about this clip, unless you are a Hornets fan, is
that Darth Vader is just off camera, wearing a Spurs jersey and using
the force to compel David West to run backwards without looking, and
then jump into the air and stretch out his arms at the very instant he
was about to bump into Robert Horry, who was
standing well outside the no-charge circle with his feet set.
And why was Horry standing there in the first place with his wrists
crossed at his belt line? Just prior to tipoff, Horry called Miss Cleo,
his psychic, and was told to cut to the basket with 10:12 left in the game, and stand outside the key, because if he did, David West would leap backwards into the air and crash in to him and would have to leave the game. How else could Horry know how
to make this dirty play look like an innocent back pick?
And of course this play had a critical impact on the game. When West
went down, the Spurs were desperate because they were only leading by
21 points. But with West out of the way, the Spurs were able to give
back some of that lead and win by just 19. Wahahaha!
Oh good grief!
West was grimacing all game about his back. It just happened this was
the contact that set it off. West was in such distress that if it
wasn't this play, it would have been another.
Hornets fans can't HONESTLY think THIS is a cheap shot.
So pumpdude, do you consider Chandlier'#### on Parker in the last game a cheap shot? He extended his arms to hit Parker. Because Parker got back up, no one cares about that hit, but it was just as bad as the one on West. At least be consistant and don;t be a hypocrite.
The only reason you think Horry's foul was a cheap shot instead of just a run of the mill foul is because you are assessing it based on your support for your team. Same thing.
If West had not gone down, there would not have even been a foul called.
lets not forget West had back problems the game before. man, some of you cry more then Kobe missing a jumper. the spurs are dirty, they cheat, they cry, they whatever. every team crys. just two years ago the spurs were soft and they will never win, now they play to hard and they cheat.i think people are just making excuses to hate on the spurs
What everyone SHOULD be talking about is Hornets' Coach Byron Scott.
David West was too injured to be playing, especially at a time in a game when the Hornets had virtually no chance of winning.
Byron Scott put his all star forward in harm's way on the outside chance that the Hornets could overcome a hopeless 21 point deficit, on the road, with 10 minutes left, with a disabled all star, who had 4 fouls, a technical foul and was shooting 28% (4/14), rather than concede game 6 and save his players for game 7 in New Orleans.
If Hornets fans want to gripe, they should be griping about their greedy coach, not about a legal pick.
anyone who has had any back pain knows that any wrong move or any tweak is going to hurt. it just happend to be him jumping in to clean pick. Byron should be feeling bad if West cant go for game 7. i kinda understand not giving up but you live to play another game. i can hear it now spurs won because weat did not play,or spurs won because they are dirty.every excuse except that they are the champs and they know how to win in a big game situation

I love taking about all sports in general although I tend to follow team sports more because I tend to follow teams more than individuals. That's why I don't have any favorite players listed at this time. Feel free to talk about most anything in sports with me. I don't know everything about sports, but I wish I did because maybe then I'd be in the sports profession. Anyway sports is my passion and I'd love to talk about it with you and become your sports friend so stop by anytime and we'll talk sports!
