I THINK I' VE HEARD A SOLUTION!!!!!
Aug 02, 2008 | 3:29PM | report this

High salaries, a constant trouble in today's NFL. Overpaid players, one year wonders who ask for the big raise right away. Too much money is being dumped into these contracts. My dad came up with this idea, and after i heard it, i first questioned it, but now, i think it would be the perfect solution to the problem. To fix the problems with the contract solution, this is what you do. You offer a guy a five year deal worth 40 million with 20 million guaranteed. BUT, he doesn't get the bonus until the end of his contract. This way, he'll get more incentive to try hard to get the big money at the end of his contract. Now, if he gets badly injured, then he still gets the bonus. If the team wants to cut him, the player gets the amount of bonus per year that he's earned. Say the team wants to be sly and cut him before the last year, so they don't have to pay the bonus. If he gets cut, then he gets the bonus for the four years that he's played. I think this is the perfect solution. Here's some examples:

5 year - 40 million dollar contract, 20 mil guaranteed. Plays whole contract, gets all the money.

5 year - 40 million dollar contract, 20 mil guaranteed. Doesn't play as anticipated, and gets cut after the second year. Gets only 8 million, or 2/5 of the original bonus. If he gets cut after the third year, he gets 12 million, or 3.5 of the bonus and so on.
