I know I know.....haven't we heard enough about Mikey V and the dogfighting? Well, it appears as though one prominent actress isn't quite finished "expressing her opinion" on the matter. While a guest on "The View" yesterday, Whoopi Goldberg stated her support for Vick by saying, "He's from the South, from the Deep South ... This is part of his cultural upbringing,".....ARE YOU SERIOUS!!! She also said, "For a lot of people, dogs are sport," Goldberg said on the show. "Instead of just saying (Vick) is a beast and he's a monster, this is a kid who comes from a culture where this is not questioned."
fatmaw(Matt)
Once again it takes an inate #### to come up witn something like this to try and appease Vick for his behavior. Goldberg is no different than the idiots of the Atlanta chapter of the NAACP. And one wonders why that many of the African Americans are an embarrassment to their race ? With the stupid itinerant buffoons like Goldberg, Marbury, Portis and Roy Jones Jr. They've nothing of benefit to say on the subject but are willing to give us their own opinions which are of no merit whatsoever.
They seem to forget that Vick's real crime was the torture and killing of these dogs. The stains of blood can never be ever totally washed off his hands. And no amount of wanting or asking Christ's forgiveness will ever change that fact.
Read my piece entitled To All My Peeps In Da House ! There you'll see my views on the subject.
Let me know if you think that it has merit ?
Last time I checked Vick was above the Mason Dixon line. Typical celebrity talking out her ####. I find it ironic for a person to contribute so much in human aid, would discount the acts of animal abuse. I'm in Alabama and I don't know anyone who dogfights. The way Whoopi portrays it every other household is involved. If you pull up dogfighting. It didn't begin in the South, nor is the South the only place where this is happening. I've seen it from Detroit to out West and all places in between. The bottom line of what I got from Whoopi is, it's okay to stereotype and use the race card in a defense of a person. That's what "cultural thing" says to me. In my opinion it would be like a person in the South justifying racism based on the fact that they grew up around it, no matter how you slice it Whoopi, it's still someones ignorance and immaturity in being around something that a child should know better than to do. To kill or harm a dog? c'mon! That's a weak argument. The majority of society has seen or been around drugs at some point in time, but that doesn't justify the use of it, because they are ILLEGAL! My advice to Vick is check into something before you get involved in doing it, especially if you have a lot to lose. That is what grown men do.

Top..thanks for stopping by. I'm so sick of this ####. I think it's a joke anymore. I can just hear the outcries from Whoopi if this were a white athlete who had been caught. I seriously doubt she would have uttered those same words. Oh, I forgot, that's because it's a cultural thing. What a freakin loser!!!
Yeah, I was laughing my arse off when Whoopi made mention that Mikey V was from the "deep south". I thought that was hilarious. And you hit the nail on the head when you brought up your point about her hypocritical nonsense. She's all about kindness and being kind to everyone...but it's okay to torture dogs. Good stuff!!!
uh... guys..... Virginia is BELOW the Mason-Dixon line (not above, as stated by CrimsonTide) In fact.... Richmond was the Capitol of the Confederacy..... "..till them no good Unionist burnt it down."
Whoopi has never been funny..... Maybe B. Walters is hoping Billy Crystal, or Robin Williams will make some cameo appearances.... they've been carrying Whoop-I for her entire career.

It NEVER is wrong to try to see what may have motivated a person to behave the way they did. I actually admired Whoopi (a comedian I just don't get, btw) for coming out with a statement such as this despite knowing she would be blasted for it.
While I think her overall statement is poorly thought out and/or stated, I'm glad there are people who err on the side of working to understand something before rushing to pillory someone.
Not an attack on the posts above, ... just a different perspective on Goldberg's statement.
hey chux...good to see you. I know it is below the Mason Dixon Line....however, it isn't the "deep south" by any stretch of the imagination either. She's not quite as smart as she thinks she is...that's for sure.
Sorry Dave...but does the word ILLEGAL not register? It doesn't matter if it's a part of "culture" or not...it's ILLEGAL!!! And to top it off..it's sadistic and cruel. Whoopi made some stupid statements...PERIOD!! So you admire her for bringing up the point that something that is illegal and felonious, is also cultural...so we should understand that? Sorry, don't cut it here dude!!!
I didn't say she was right. Just that I admired people who seek some level of understanding before judging. There's been painfully little seeking of understanding with so much that goes on nowadays, that I am thrilled to see even the slightest hint of it. She went a bit overboard ... but better to go overboard seeking understanding than in responding at a gut level only and NEVER wondering about why a person may have behaved the way they did (rushing to a conclusion that they must be stupid/evil/etc.).
Give it a rest, whether you want to understand it, or not dog fighting has been going on for hundreds of years. As a soldier I have witness two dog fighting events in my travels around the world, once in S. Korea, and then in Germany. I've also attended a Bull fighting event in Spain, wasn't much of a fight more like a slaughtering but do you lose sleep at night over that as well, are is it when you see someone who should have known better.
VFD...calm down there now. This wasn't meant to be another blog on Vick...but a blog on another celebrity making a statement on his behalf.
People have raped for thousands of years too...does that make it right? People have murdered for thousands of years...does that make it right? Your argument is very weak...and you show nothing but ignorance. I'll leave it at that.

Your keen insight, or lack thereof shows the true level of your own intellect. What a wonderfull world this is to be in the present of such great and superficial minds as your's...enough said

The deep south? I live 25 minutes from the Gulf of Mexico and nobody here fights dogs. Rooster are another story until August 08 then that will be illegal.
Well, Ricko, if you would have read the blog correctly, you would have seen that it was more about the stupid comments Whoopi made...not about Vick and his dogfighting.
If you don't like it, don't comment...point blank..I didn't force you to read it or comment on it.
VFD...nice jab at trying to sound intelligent...it's a shame it didn't work. Just your first comment you posted is enough for everyone here to see your intelligence level.
options, options
hey fatmaw are celebrities allowed an option in your world, if not hope you don't watch FOX news, oh I forgot you're Marine, Bush tells you your option...
VFD...sure they're allowed "options". They're just making fools of themselves by trying to justify something that is ILLEGAL!!! IT'S ILLEGAL!!! IT'S ILLEGAL!!! IT'S ILLEGAL!!!
Why did I know Bush would come up in this somehow!! If that's what you honestly think, then you're every bit as ignorant as I first thought.
Matt, people like Whoopi make me sick. They try to use their influence as a celebrity to influence the common voter. I live in Southeast TN and I am 30 minutes from the Georgia line. Our biggest problem here is people with drugs, not dogfighting. Dogfighting is not common to this area. Our local shelters are accepting anything "Vick" to use to clean and help our animals in shelters. Thanks for this post. Bobbie
The real sad part of the whole thing is how ultra-stupid Elizabeth Hasselbeck is. She couldn't convince a priest to give her water on a hot day. To hold her up as some kind of voice for the right is comical in the extreme. She can pose for Playboy but she can't pose as a source for conservative views.

you sure like the word ignorant,
must be a personal issue you're dealing with. By the way do you really possess the ability of thought. If so label someone you know directly, hummmm like the people that raised you to be so judgmental...
I don't know what Whoopi's motivation was. From the little I heard, it does appear she was trying to make the case that dog fighting is a culture -- an established illegal 'underground' culture in fact -- and that Mike Vick was indoctrinated in this underground culture from a very young age. This does not justify his actions.
Having only heard bits and pieces of Whoopi's comments on The View, I can't surmise much more than what I do here.
Again, she's new to the show. How better to make an entrance than by saying or doing something controversial? It worked for Rosie, for a time at least.

VFD...oh, this is much more than just being judgemental. If you say that this whole dogfighting issue is blown way out of proportion, which in a roundabout way, you have done...that's ignorant. You obviously don't know that it is ILLEGAL...IT'S ILLEGAL...IT'S ILLEGAL...IT'S ILLEGAL!!!
I can assure you that if you make comments like you made in your first comment on this blog, you will be judged. We judge every single day of our lives. We have nothing else to go on, other than what we read, see, and hear. I judged according to what I read. Now, you can accuse me of putting words in your mouth if you like...however, I would like to see you explain your way out of your view of dogfighting as being "no big deal".
ILLEGAL FOR WHITE PEOPLE, ILLEGAL FOR ASIANS, ILLEGAL FOR LATINOS, ILLEGAL FOR BLACKS, ILLEGAL FOR CATHOLICS, BAPTISTS, MORMONS, JEWISH, MUSLIMS AND ILLEGAL FOR EVERYONE IN BETWEEN EVERY RACE OR RELIGION. ILLEGAL FOR ####S, STRAIGHTS, ILLEGAL FOR MEN, WOMEN, TRANSEXUALS. IT WAS HIS "CULTURE'? I DEFY ONE SINGLE PERSON BORN AND RAISED IN AMERICA TO STAND RIGHT THERE WITH A STRAIGHT FACE AND SAY THEY DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS ILLEGAL AND IMMORAL BOTH.
GIVE IT A REST WHOOPI.

I only accused you of not owning the right to label me as "ignorant" however I hear your option not so much with respect but as your voice. Now hear my voice, I don't condone what Vick did in fact I believe that if it wasn't for football both Vick and his brothers would most likely be gang members to be honest, but that's not my point and since you asked my point is. Where's the outrage for our children being gunned down in the streets of our cities, maybe if we all possessed the same level of outrage for people as we seem to for animals maybe just maybe there wouldn't be as much crime against people or animals...

I listened to her comments on the radio, don't want you guys thinking I watch the View. I think she chose her words carefully in that she was not condoning what Vick did, rather just stating that this is where he, Vick, comes from and fighting dogs is not considered to be that big of a deal as it has been made out to be. Don't know what her true angle was, maybe she was trying to be controversial like Rosie O D! Really, I don't watch the View.

Okay I have something to say... First in regards to the Views new Host Whoopi. Please get a map and take a remedial geography class. Also Crimson I know you meant well, but Virginia is below the Mason/Dixon line. Sorry pal. I have been a resident of the same area that Vick is from all of my life. Actually my family has been here since the 1600's. Anyway I digress, sorry.
As to Whoopi I will say this. Virginia is actually the South. But we are NOT the Deep South. We are where the South begins. And actually Hampton Roads ,which we are in southern Virginia, is the Mid Atlantic as well. We are seven large cities, and Vick is from Newport News, nickname Bad Newz. Sound familiar? It was nice of Mike to give his Kennel that name, huh?
Now being I have lived here and I can attest to this, I have never, let me repeat never, been asked to attend a dog fight! No us normal people here spend our time at the beach or the bay. We go to Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Water Country USA. party at many clubs and bars here. Go out on our boats and fish Etc. Etc. No dog fighting has never been brought up when we were trying to think of something to do. Now apparently it has been going on, but it is the first incident that I have heard of.
As far as Whoopi goes she is just trying to fill Rosie O fat ####'es shoes. Please pay her no mind. Neither Whoopi, nor Rosie have a place here in sports and let's keep it that way!

first off, Whoopi is a weirdo. With that said, I didn't hear all of her comments but maybe Ultramega makes some since. Maybe she meant that if he grew up with dogfighting as his norm, i.e. family, friends all participated he was just ignorant to the fact how immoral, illegal it was. If you were born into a very rich family for example, would you really know what the poor goes through?
Thanks Mean. I feel kinda bad calling Rosie that name though. :)
It is just she got on my bad side with her trying to out do each bizarre comment or stunt on the view. Plus most of the issues she took up had no basis in fact. Aggravated me. I am a girl who likes her facts, LOL!
You actually said what I was trying to say. Whoopi is trying to making controversy in order to compete with Rosie. I have always like Whoopi and I pray she calms down a bit! But I stick to the fact that we need to keep The View far away from the sporting world!
Fatmaw, as you know I stand beside you and many others in opposition of Vick and though I don't watch the view and hence, didn't see anything that wasn't reported afterwards I didn't really take it As Whoopi supporting Vick. I don't think she ever said it was okay or that we should let him slide.
She was merely stating what alot of individuals have been saying on these boards and that is that dogfighting is most prominent in the South (though now you find it across the nation because of the thug/Scarface/Gangster culture). Kind of like Neo #### cultures in the U.S. Upbringing influences judgement.
when touring the south in both the 70's and 80's in a rock band it was very similar to anywhere else in that people who came to the shows would invite the band to parties, women would try to hustle whichever guy they had their eye on, we got invited to various things on our day off like swamp boat rides, meeting some local blues legend who never left his front porch, watching guys wrestle alligators (which they didn't actually wrestle anything bigger than a 3 foot gator and that was more "tummy tickling") and so on. What we were NEVER invited to do was go see a dog fight. Funny how I had the opportunity to experience virtually everything from food to women to accents to local tourist spots to whatever the many wanted us to see/experience but never dog fights. Culture? Heh.Shut up Whoopi.
Well, I can't address everyone. So I'll try a mass response here that will umbrella everyone.
Whew...and I thought coming home meant relaxing. I left work at 5 today..actually a slow day at work..and it's now 8:50pm..and I've just sat down. So I'm sorry I haven't responded.
I appreciate everyone's response...and yes, that includes you Ultra.
Regardless of what Whoopi was "trying" to say, she was dumb enough to make it sound as if she was supporting dogfighting as a sport...therefore supporting Vick...yes?
And for the newbies on this blog...you can ask everyone here who has been here for awhile...you come to my blog..you never know what I'm going to say. So that's your warning.
I appreciate everyone's response, even those I have tangled with..it's what makes blogging great!!
socrates....good one!! She's always looked a little "torn up". I remember those days when she and Ted Dansen had their "fling"...boy what an odd couple.
Just to warn you...Ultra thinks you are my alter personality. In other words...he thinks I'm you. I don't know what you look like...but you better be a muscle bound, female magnet stud!!! LOL!!!
Fatmaw, good post. Whoopi is all about getting ratings for that show. That's why she's there in the first place. I bet she doesn't believe half the #### that she spews out of her pie hole. As for what she said, it was stupid and irresponsible and she needs to be called on it. As for Elisabeth Hasselbeck, replace her with a TRUE conservative like Ann Coulter or Michelle Malkin. I guarantee you the ratings would JUMP. Can you imagine Whoopi and Ann or Michelle debating the issues of the day?? LOL.
Oh Ultra. Me and him have come to an understanding of sorts. He has also accused me of being 1steelerfan1. I didn't realize I was a part of triplets.
And FYI, why YES, I am a MUSCLE BOUND FEMALE STUD MAGNET. How did you know?
fatamw(Matt)
It's so stupid and to believe that Goldberg would be so idiotic to make such a statement. Only goes to show that as a race the African American has yet to proceed forward with any dignity whatsover. Insomuch as there are leaders out there they do very little to instill any confidence. They're still playing the butler, housekeeper, shoe shine by and whatever social calling that is indicative of their presence nowadays. Even the great Colin Powell has been made to look the complete fool by a President who's sense of justice is so out of touch.
Powell's address was so imbecillic that it was bordering on stupidity when he addressed the UN in '03. The leaders created for African Americans to identify with have now become puppets. It wouldn't surprise me if Obama was to do an about face were he to obtain the Democratic nomination for the Presidency.
They're no longer any real leaders within the race (African American) that one can admire ! Step n' Fetch It so easily comes to mind when showing their burden. "Yes sa' massa' " ......"no sir massa "
That's the mentality that still exists and it's perpetrated by many .

Well, all I'm saying is not to drag someone's words out of context, or to read too much into it.
I didn't see the clip, nor do I plan to because I couldn't care less about the Vick issue. But it seems to me that she didn't really state a pro or con stance on dogfighting, or on Vick. She was just adding context to Vick's behavior.
Whoopi is still Guinan on Star Trek; The Next Generation. She was an alien dogfightwer from the dark side of the Galaxy, Dogrovia, where the dogs have beast-like chests and pointy ears. She also has dog breath.
Little do people know that Vick and Whoopi were conjoined twins at the hair line.

Hello sports fans. My name is Matt Faw. I am from North Wilkesboro, NC. North Wilkesboro is a small town about 90 miles north of Charlotte, NC. I am a United States Marine and was very happy when we were able to follow college and professional football while deployed to Iraq in 2004. I am a die-hard Tar Heel fan. I actually grew up a huge Oakland Raider fan, a closet Chicago Bears fan, and came to be a die-hard Carolina Panthers fan after their inception into the league in 1995. Needless to say, the Raiders nor the Bears have given me much to cheer about over the years, with the exception of few good years. The Panthers have been more competitive on a more consistent basis over the past ten years than either the Raiders or the Bears. Debate on fellow sportsters. mattfaw@gmail .com
