Michael Vick Was Influenced...It Wasn't His Fault!!!
May 25, 2007 | 11:39AM | report this

Not!!!! The past few years have been filled with scandals and unruly athletes in the world of sports. Whether it be the BALCO scandal and Barry Bonds, or the Ohio state penitentiary we like to call…the Cincinnati Bengals, the headlines of newspapers and all other media outlets have littered our heads with negativity. In most cases, there is a common theme…."I didn’t do it" or "It wasn’t my fault". In recent days there have been articles written about the crowds these athletes choose to run with. In the case of Michael Vick, there are those who believe he is a victim of his surrounding cast. Read here to see my point:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?colum
nist=chadiha_jeff&id=2881152&lpos=spotligh####>mp;lid=tab4####1

In the case of Pac Man Jones we have the same. Well, I propose this….

Why is it up to a multi-millionaire to "choose" his running crowd? Could it be that others have chosen them? Could it be that maybe Michael Vick and Pac Man Jones are actually the "bad influencers?" Could it be THEY are the bad apples and that Mickie V and Jones are the one’s bringing others down with them?

Why is it always someone else’s fault? I suspect that the crowds athletes choose to hang with are in all essence recluses. They suddenly "become friendly" to those with money. Why do those involved with dog fighting need Mike Vick? Why does Mike Vick need those who are involved in dog fighting? Why do strippers and strip bar frequenters need Pac Man Jones? Why does he need them? Common sense would tell me that others need these two more than they need them. They have money…and most of all they have INFLUENCE!!!!

So again, I ask, who are the influencers and who are the influenced? Common sense tells me that professional athletes have no one to blame but themselves. In fact, if anything, their "running crowd" can most likely blame them for much of their problems. So please…for crying out loud…STOP BLAMING OTHERS!!!!

If you tend to think I don't like Mike Vick...then I tend to agree with you. I hope this guy not only gets kicked outta the league (which won't happen), but that he also spends a little time in a small jail cell with about 10 pitt bulls trained to rip him apart!!!

While it's certainly true that these guys can have better discretion regarding those they choose to associate with, sometimes you can't tell. I'm not saying that is specifically the case in the Vick or Jones cases, but an athlete, in reality, shouldn't be held responsible for what his friends do unless he is, in some way, responsible for their wrongdoing.

This reminds me a bit of high school and the cliques. You knew who did what, and you had to decide for yourself whether or not you wanted to get yourself involved with it. Other times, you'd decide to hang out with someone who appeared to be perfectly harmless, and once you step outside of school grounds and hop in his car, he tells you he has 10 grams of weed in his car and you're on the highway.

Dear, Blogger

Please do us all a favor go read a book and get an
education. You clearly have entirely too much time on your hands!!!! You can blame common sense for this ONE!!!!!!

Dear Jamaicamon,
I forgot you were a Vick backer. Enough said!!

Better yet, why don't you educate us. Pull the blunt outta your jamaicamon mouth first, as it will likely cause negative effects on brave wave activity...which appears to already be a bit slow.

If you want to disagree with me, then how bout making an argument...instead of throwing out insults. Just a thought.

i personally have Michael Vick named as both my kid's godfather. He's such an inspiration.

As far as blame, I think DNA, drugs and the NFL, in that order, are reasons enough. Number 1, though is money. Uneducated people are still morons no matter how much they have in their wallets.
Good post. I need a Red Stripe beer after reading the other comments, mon.

Good point Lisa. Money literally is the root of "most evil". When you couple that with stupidity....you have a complete ####. We like to call them Mikie V and Pacman...and apparently Jamaicamon!!!

Thanks for stopping by!!

I say good ridance to them all and I hope that the NFL continues to be tough. Vick just needs to go as far as I'm concerned. Also, thank you for your sevice to our nation Fatmaw. You are one of many that are heros that should be saluted.

LOL "Ohio state penitentary" ROFL

Here's one for all those who say Pit bulls are just vicous dogs anyhow, it's no big deal. Please pass along this link whenever possible. I realize it's easy to get tired of a subject but this is something that needs to be stomped out. Dog fighting.

I defy anyone to deny these dogs are something special.

I want to see M.Vick sent to a mental hospital where he belongs.I don't want him in prison where he will be idolized and pampered. That environment will only feed his sick need to inflict pain on the weak and defenseless. Anyone with this mentallity needs to be put away until Doctors say he is safe to put back in society.
He killed animals that depended on him for their basic needs, animals that wanted nothing more then his companionship and approval, he beat and killed them. M.Vick has not evolved enough to live with humans. His behavior is that of a dangerous wild animal !!
I've had a pit for a pet. While he did not like other dogs, he was a very affectionate and loving animal. It's how their raised and trained that make them fighters, somewhat like people.

I think I can speak for myself and many fans and ALL the domesticated dogs when I say that Vick should be banned for LIFE from the NFL. Whatever happened to personal accountability and consequences? I get a strong feeling he WON'T plea bargain and take his chances. In that case, I'm rooting for a guilty verdict and having the book THROWN AT HIM!

Quack, I've known people that have had pit bulls and they concur with you: they are a sweet, even tempered breed. It's because the dogs were/are brought up as PETS.

Vick is sick, Vick is sick.

Hello sports fans. My name is Matt Faw. I am from North Wilkesboro, NC. North Wilkesboro is a small town about 90 miles north of Charlotte, NC. I am a United States Marine and was very happy when we were able to follow college and professional football while deployed to Iraq in 2004. I am a die-hard Tar Heel fan. I actually grew up a huge Oakland Raider fan, a closet Chicago Bears fan, and came to be a die-hard Carolina Panthers fan after their inception into the league in 1995. Needless to say, the Raiders nor the Bears have given me much to cheer about over the years, with the exception of few good years. The Panthers have been more competitive on a more consistent basis over the past ten years than either the Raiders or the Bears. Debate on fellow sportsters. mattfaw@gmail
