It looks like time is running out for the Mavericks
Apr 30, 2007 | 12:00AM | report this

So here we are after game four of the Dallas/Goldenstate series and all is quiet. Unlike last year where we were having heated discussions over this play and that call. It seems like no one wants to write a post on the Dallas Mavericks this year.

Well here's how I have it........................Avery Johnson is being out coached by Nelly (that doesn't surprise me) and Dirk is falling short of his so called MVP caliber of play. So what seems to be the problem with the Mavs? Why can't they handle a near 500 team like the Warriors?

The truth is that I have this photo file of Mark Cuban pictures showing different levels of whining and screaming at the refs and I am afraid that they will get tossed in round one and I won't have the opportunity to use them.

On one hand it would be sad to see the Mavs get ousted in the first round. So the Suns and Spurs will miss being able to play them and avenge any rivalry's from last year. But on the other hand.......................It's also a lot of fun watching the Warriors play basketball!

Go Warriors!!!

Hey evil, good post. I was just thinking tonight that I want to find some screen shots of Cuban from the past couple games and create a little slideshow screen-saver. I completely agree with you on your comment about Dirk, and wish I could say I knew enough about Nelly to comment. Honestly, I'm not sure if he's He certainly plays it off like he's not a big factor (methinks Nelly is being coy?)

Anyways, I would add that I heard some interesting analysis on Sports Center a few days ago talking about how Dallas and San Antonio use "specialists" to execute. Where as teams like Golden State and Phoenix have moved towards using versatile players. Obviously, one could argue that that is not necessarily a better style, but it has obviously paid off in this scenario, as Dallas looks like they are constantly bewildered and confused.

In regards to your final comment, I don't think it is necessary to prove anything to the Mavericks for either the Suns or Spurs. I think that enough has been said during season play, and I think it is fair to say that if the Warriors can keep up this level of play (which honestly will be very difficult for such a short rotation and inexperienced team), they'll provide for a lot more entertaining sports series to come!

Go Suns! (pardon the shameless shoutout)

Good thing Dirk that the MVP votes are cast for the regular season.

When is the last time that an 8 beat a 1? Was it Denver beating_______? With Mutombo at center?

Nash-ty you must be a Suns fan, very clever screen name. Actually I had problems with the "Really good" photos because it's impossible to cut and paste from your own computer when you write a post.

So I had to find them over again. Now I have this goofy photo file of Mark Cuban that I have to delete. And to think that I actually saved it for a whole year is pretty funny.

Anyway..........There's irony in that Don Nelson built the nucleus of the Mavs and he is the one that is there to expose it's flaws. You can't make-up a better story!

I'll take the Seattle "Supersonics" for $200 Alex! Who was the only number 1 seed to loose to a number 8 seeded team in the NBA play-offs?

The 1994 Seattle Supersonics! But that was in five. Thanks for dropping by Miracle.

As much as I hate the Mavs losing I really like the Warriors style.

Perhaps Don Nelson realized his teams would have to play some defense? That's the way basketball should be played. Stingy, swarming defense on one end; fast break, good passing, easy bucket on the other end.

I'm still rooting for my team but I really do enjoy Warriors basketball.

The Warriors just seem to want it more, pure and simple.

It does remind me of when the Nuggets knocked off the Sonics way back when. I remember LaPhonso Ellis(who?) having the series of his life. If I recall correctly, Seattle also had one of those inflated regular season records...making most believe they would coast into the NBA Finals.

Don't forget the strike shortened season when the Knicks beat the Heat. But Denver, New York and these Warriors all have one thing very much in common. They came on very strong at the end of each season and taking on very, very over-confident teams. There is a reason why GS is in the playoffs, because they earned it. GS is playing with nothing to lose and everything to gain, while the Mavs don't want to spend their summer and all of next season in shame. So get your head out of your butts, stand up, and play the game to win! If not, you guys are millionaires, you can afford the brown paperbags for a year.

Dirk should post instead of shooting outside. It seems like when things aren't falling, try something else. And take care of the ball. Towards the end, you could literally see, feel, smell the Mavs tensing up--trying to guard a 5 point lead instead of playing aggressively. As for other comments about specialized players vs flexible ones, that is all contingent on Nash or in this case Baron Davis. If you put Nash on the Clipps, Sonics, or ________ they'd be contenders.

RU-Sirious, This couldn't have been a more unlucky scenario for the Mavericks. Meeting Nelly and a very hungry and athletic Warriors team in the first round. The Mavs haven't changed all that much since Nelson left and now he is having fun with this new team.

Shooter- That wasn't that long ago was it? Lets see my son was 5 at the time............Wow he starts college next year!

Yeah a young Gary Payton on that team, I was still reeling from the fall of the Celtics at that time.

Thanks for stopping in.
