No more Tom Brady? The AFC is up ended.
Sep 07, 2008 | 11:18PM | report this
Doesn't it seem like the whole AFC chain of power may have been changed in just one weekend of football? With Tom Brady's new extra flexible GI Joe knee.
And  the Colts come up empty in their new digs...............................Was that a sign of just how good the Bears are gonna be this year? Or perhaps it was a sign of how bad the Colts are going to be this year.

Needless to say, this was only the first week and there are 15 more games to be played for these teams. But this being only week one, leaves me wondering what land scape is going to look like in a few more weeks. The Chargers are still employing Norv Turner for some reason.............................Norv Turner and Herm Edwards are still employed right?.............I'll revisit those two guys as a main topic for some other post.
Anyway, back to Tom Brady's Knee...............................It looks like the early reports are that Brady is out for the rest of the season with torn ACL and MCL ligaments.

Does this mean that the Bills might inherit the AFC east? Will the Jets become contenders?

Then there is the biggest question of all for the Tom Brady haters out there in the world................................What are you feeling now? Didn't you wish that someone could have done this last year, while he and Randy Moss were running up the score on your favorite team?

Or does the reality o####reat athlete being injured overshadow all the hate that you feel? Does the competitiveness of being a football fan go as far as wishing harm on a person?

I for one hope that he is going to be ok............................Because it would be so much more satisfying to beat the Patriots with all of their best players all on the field.

Is the Allstar Game just a Popularity contest?
Jul 06, 2008 | 2:32PM | report this
It sure is a popularity contest.......................I used to feel the same way about the voting systems in baseball. My example would be the baseball MVP award. The sports writers would over look a player who was (statistically) flirting with a triple crown. Instead award the MVP to a "Juicer" who was only popular with the sports writers.

Until recently my thoughts would have been very much right on line with that Joe Morgan belief that the best players deserve to be MVP's and Allstar's................Well that just might be the case next year when they become popular from all of those great stats. Then the Joe Bucks of the broadcast industry can come along and powder their noses and make stars out of them all......................LOL!

But enough about those of us that are critical about baseball......................Perhaps we study the game way too much. Maybe it's the 8,10 or 12 yr. old fans that would rather see their hometown hero in the Allstar game. Instead of that new player in the league, that no one can pronounce his name and is batting near .400 at the Allstar break.

If we had a game for the best players in the league it would have to be called: "The categorically best in the league game" (CBIL)
As for me I'll continue to cast my vote every year for my favorite players and the ones that I feel deserve it. Like I always have.

My Prediction : The Celtics in 6!
Jun 18, 2008 | 10:25AM | report this
During this years NBA Play-offs there was a lot of talk of conspiracies as well as the usual "Refs suck" thanks to Tim Donaghy and his expose' of crooked NBA officials.

There was no conspiracy. The NBA is not just one big choreographed production like a Harlem Globetrotters show.

There are way too many people involved for this to be a preplanned event.

However if you are in denial over the Lakers loosing.......................Then that would be the only answer you could have that would explain everything and still excuse the Lakers for not winning.

The bottom line is that the #1 east team (Celtics) beat the #1 west team (Lakers) in the NBA Finals. Just check the final standings for the 2007/2008 season.

The Lakers still needed that one extra threat that they didn't have, to get them over the hump. Perhaps next season they will get that player or two that they need.

To the Lakers and their fans..........Thanks for a hard fought series and good luck until we meet again in next years finals!

The Celtics are up 2-0 and the 2-3-2 format still sucks!
Jun 09, 2008 | 12:54AM | report this
Well here we are two games completed in the NBA Finals and the Boston Celtics are now firmly in the driver seat. As I posted last week, before the series began, the 2-3-2 format still sucks........ If the Lakers had won one of the first two games, it would have given a tremendous advantage to them.

In a world of Jet transportation there is no reason for a 2-3-2 finals, especially if your going to have three days between games like we just had. The 2-2-1-1-1 is the only fair format for both teams. This is the" NBA"  a multi-million dollar industry it can afford this change. It's not like these two teams are riding on buses from game to game.

Anyway I would also like to say that the Lakers showed a lot of heart in the fourth quarter making their run.........................As a Celtic fan I could see it coming, but I also thought that the Celtics would stop the bleeding somewhere around 8-10. I didn't expect it to drop to 2 that's for sure. To the Laker fans on Fox Sports Blogs I say good luck to your Lakers when they go back to LA.

For the obnoxious Laker fans with the faceless avatars.....................It's time to change your predictions again!

Lakers,Cowboys, Steelers and Celtics
Jun 02, 2008 | 11:28AM | report this
The Cowboys and Laker fans have always been the same beaming with confidence before the big game(s)........Let me re-phrase that: The Cowboys and Laker fans have always been loud and obnoxious trash talkers before the big game(s)

That's why there are Steelers and Celtic fans in the world to add balance and harmony to sports.

These two teams have played out this same scenario eleven times over the past five decades and as always the boldness of the Laker fans have come to the front of the line. Just as before they will have the added burden of hoping that their team will win to back-up their words.

Anyway let me just say what I always say to a Cowboys or Laker fan just before the "Big Game or Series" begins..........Good Luck because your going to need it...........................LOL!

Oh and buy the way ..............................I don't know if anyone out there agrees or not. But there shouldn't even be a 2-3-2 format in the play-offs because gives so much of an advantage to the team that wins on the road. 2-2-1-1-1 should be the format.................Yes the two teams are on opposite sides of the continent but give us a break that's why we have Jet Planes.

No, I am not worried about the Celtics loosing at home........But if the Lakers loose at home and go down 3-? then they will have to win in Boston.

EQ.

Laker fans: Get ready for the Western conference finals!
May 21, 2008 | 9:13AM | report this
Nervous Laker fans out there.................You must all realize that this is the worst scenario that could have happened.

The Lakers do not match-up well against the Spurs with their multiple weapons. Yes the Spurs are old and that is the main argument in favor of the Lakers....But....Can Kobe score enough to win these games, will he have the back-up and will his back hold-up?

This is the Western conference finals and they are playing against the World Champions. Still everyone is writing this series off and talking about an NBA finals series with Boston.................For me it's the best possible match-up as an East coast fan. So hold on tight it's because it's gonna be a bumpy ride!

Good Luck !

Hey Ref! What are you Blind?
May 19, 2008 | 11:47PM | report this
What is it about the NBA and players with superstar status? How does an NBA official honestly go out and do his job?
Is it sort of like a WWF approach to officiating?

How is it that an NBA official can be seen with in 5 or 6 feet from a foul being committed and the whistle doesn't get blown. When it does get called, in many cases it even goes against the person who just got tattooed across the face.
Much like a WWF ref would have his back turned as the "Animal" would hit his opponent with a chair.

Almost each and every time that Lebron (King) James gets the ball he travels in one form or another....................Then there's the lowered shoulder on the way to the basket or the 4 step dunk.

Talk about your over rated players......................This kid was being crowned King of the NBA six months after leaving high school. At a time where Kobe's reputation was being tarnished and David Stern was in need of a successor to "His Airness" Micheal Jordan.

Even Shaq has his patented low post elbow to the throat spin move where he changes his pivot foot when he draws the double team.

In all fairness to the NBA and their
Vince McMahon trained officials...........................There must must be some kind of reasonable explanation as to why these referees look so much like homers. If they were blind, we could understand where the miscommunication came from, but in some cases a blind referee would have done a better job.

Pandemonium in Piscataway Part 2
Oct 18, 2007 | 11:00PM | report this

Well here we are one year later and another big Thursday night game for the Scarlet Knights. Did this game have anything in common with last years big win? Not much

after you toss out the bogus rating system and look at it as just another Big East conference game.

Rutgers sets a new attendance record 44,267!

To some this might not be such a big deal, but for a
Rutgers fan it is. Rutgers football tickets have always been easy to
come by and almost free most of the time.

But not now...............It's good to see the Scarlet Knights having some
level of success and
It's nice to be able to tune in and watch them on Saturdays!

Once Again Congratulations to
the
Scarlet Knights!!!

It looks like time is running out for the Mavericks
Apr 30, 2007 | 12:00AM | report this

So here we are after game four of the Dallas/Goldenstate series and all is quiet. Unlike last year where we were having heated discussions over this play and that call. It seems like no one wants to write a post on the Dallas Mavericks this year.

Well here's how I have it........................Avery Johnson is being out coached by Nelly (that doesn't surprise me) and Dirk is falling short of his so called MVP caliber of play. So what seems to be the problem with the Mavs? Why can't they handle a near 500 team like the Warriors?

The truth is that I have this photo file of Mark Cuban pictures showing different levels of whining and screaming at the refs and I am afraid that they will get tossed in round one and I won't have the opportunity to use them.

On one hand it would be sad to see the Mavs get ousted in the first round. So the Suns and Spurs will miss being able to play them and avenge any rivalry's from last year. But on the other hand.......................It's also a lot of fun watching the Warriors play basketball!

Go Warriors!!!

Lets Face it Tiger Woods is the Best
Apr 14, 2007 | 10:39PM | report this

I don't know if any one era is better than another when it comes to golf.........But it's obvious that Tiger Woods is the best player in the game today.

How he will stack up to the greats of the game is yet to be seen.............But he is doing one hell of a job of it so far for someone that is only 31 yrs. old.

You can't take away from him what he has earned, and you can't sell the argument that he doesn't have any competition. Or that this era is inferior to the old days.

Still when we talk around the water cooler, I still hear the same old reaction: "Baaah Tiger Woods I'm glad he lost"!

During and after this years Masters Tournament I could hear the animosity echoing louder then ever and it prompted me to wonder............What exactly is it about Tiger Woods that you can't stand?

Personally my favorite golfers of all time are Tom Watson and Lee Trevino............But even I know that Tiger is on a much shorter list when we talk about the best of all time.
