2008 Cowboys NFL Draft
Mar 26, 2008 | 6:29AM | report this

My Cowboys Draft (basically what I hope to see realistically happen)

RD 1
Pick 22: Malcolm Kelly WR Oklahmoa

The Cowboys I think would want to pick the WR or CB that would be highest on their overall board, I believe that will be Malcolm Kelly (who I believe the Cowboys will see as one of their top 3 WRs in this draft) when the Cowboys get here, I don’t foresee Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie or Aqib Talib, the top two corners in this draft available so the ‘Boys take a risk of drafting Kelly and hope that their third, fourth, or fifth choice of CB will be available at 28.
Pick 28: Mike Jenkins CB South Florida

I would like this pick very much if the Cowboys could pull it off and get lucky. He is quick, by most accounts has good coverage skills, and has the play-making ability to be a KR/PR. That speed could really come in handy for a defensive backfield that does not feature much speed besides Terrance Newman.

RD 2
Pick 61: Jamaal Charles RB Texas

His speed and burst is good, what I think the Cowboys need to counter Marion’s style. He is also a pretty good receiver out of the backfield which would be a great addition to have since the Cowboys do like to get the RBs involved in the passing game. I would prefer if available at this slot Chris Johnson from ECU or Ray Rice from Rutgers, but I don’t think they will be available at this spot for the Cowboys to take.

RD 3
Pick 92: Roy Schuening OG Oregon

I do think the Cowboys might go Oline a little too early, they tend to go too early on a position or two every draft, I think the 3rd round is the most likely to do it since the previous three picks addresses the most obvious needs. Schening I expect to be a future starter, hopefully with the Cowboys, he was a four year starter, strong, physical very good at run-blocking. Needs to work on his pass-protection and not the fastest but I do think when Kyle Kosier is gone which shouldn’t be in the too distant future, he should make a strong push for that starting spot.

RD 4
Pick 126: Ahtyba Rubin DT Iowa St.

What Rubin provides that is sorely needed for the Cowboys at the NT position is a stout run stopper who does a great job taking on multiple blockers. I really had no idea who of the DTs available in this draft I wanted the Cowboys to take until I did a little research and found out that this guy is the best pure run stopper out of every one in this draft. More than one ‘expert’ said it including Mel Kiper for what its worth. So I say, lets throw those ‘experts’ a bone and pick him up

RD 5
Pick 164 Josh Barrett S Arizona St.

Barrett I see has being a nice pick-up for the defensive backfield and the special teams. Keith Davis becoming a Dolphin has left a void behind Roy Williams and on the special teams. Barrett is a fast, hard-hitting, instinctive (as the ‘experts’ describes him, maybe another way to say he makes good plays while playing out of position sometimes) safety that could help fill that void.

           RD 6

Pick 169 Ben Moffitt ILB South Florida              The Cowboys will get another player from USF and I think this one would be a really nice pick up for the Boys. Mainly, the Cowboys don’t know what they have at ILB, yes Akin Ayodele and Bradie James are the starters. Backing them up for sure will be Kevin Burnett and Zach Thomas. Booby Carpenter is also a possibility but he keeps switching positions. Burnett has been inconsistent and also does give up quite a few big plays. While Zach Thomas is no guarantee to make the team, and if he does who is to say he will stay healthy. They probably need one more ILB and I like this Moffitt guy.

RD 7
Pick 238 Cody Wallace C Texas A&M

I was looking to get a backup QB for Romo but I pretty much felt that the Oline should be addressed again and get as many bodies as possible going into to training camp. I have my doubts that Wallace will be available in the 7th round but its always hard to predict teams needs along the Oline. So for arguments sake, he is available and the Cowboys give him a chance.

Not too bad...but I've got to say, I think the fact that pretty much everybody seems to agree that Kelly's going to the Bills at 11 is probably a "where there's smoke, there's fire" type of situation. Don't think he'll be available. Also, Jenkins is slipping a bit, but I'm not sure he gets all the way down to the Cowboys 2nd first rounder. You might have to grab him with the 1st one if you really want him - Charles would be a nice complement to MBIII - and Josh Barrett may go as early as the 2nd round, so I don't really see you getting him in the 5th.

i like it... it wont happen but it's a cool idea.

i had their draft being marred with trades.

a first, second and next yrs first and third for the falcons first rd pick. (mcfadden)

a first and crayton for Chad Johnson.

a fifth rd pick for pacman.

in the third they would get jordy nelson WR
and i truly believe that this is the team that drafts Paul Smith QB from Tulsa.

If Dallas truly wants an explosive set of receivers why dont they offer Detroit their 2 Number ones for Roy Williams. They probably could use some draft picks. Dallas would have the best receiving tandem in football TO, Williams and Crayton, especially With Romo getting the ball to them. I would like to see the DB'S covering that group especially with marion barber in the backfield. Lets see what the New England, Indy, and oh yes the giants/Dallas matchup looks like then.

someaction Roy Williams will be a free agent next year and wants to come to Dallas so why waste anything on it this year? Why draft a WR in the first round? they rarely contribute their first year. Dallas should get Roy williams next year and continue to groom Stanback. Running back and cornerback should be the two picks they concentrate on most. thebest said it right if they can get the WR Jordy Nelson in the third rd. I've seen him play and he's very good. We don't need any more lb's for sure. We don't need a lot of players so why not package up some picks and throw in Carpenter and Roy williams and go get the best player in the draft that fits our area of need (Mcfadden)? Atlanta and Miami need tons of players so they might be game for a trade. I'd like to see them get a safety and get rid of Roy Williams who is terrible at coverage and now can't seem to tackle. Let's send him to Miami they seem to like our rejects.

You anutha one, huh? Where you from? Don't matter cause you probably a bandwagoner too. Your teams come from all over the country....TX, CA, and NC. Wrap!!!! Its cool to like different teams but I but you a bandwagoner. All I'm saying is that I'm loyal to the Teams where I'm from. Can't be mad for me being loyal. I'm a fan whether they win or lose. Chiefs need hella work to fix their squad.....but the Cowboys seem to have all the pieces for a C'ship Team but can't finish. Wrap!!!

Beanz how can I say this with tact? Ummm... ur garbage and your football knowledge is suspect. You are about as sharp as a sack of wet mice. It's all about AMERICAS TEAM patnuh! Dallas can be 1-15 and they will still be called....uhhhh AMERCIAS TEAM. PAC MAN, DEION SANDERS, CHAD JOHNSON, ROY WILLIAMS OF DETROIT and many more.. what do they have in common? Well I'm glad that you asked that question. They have all said that they have always wanted to be a star. Check the HELMET. AMERICAS TEAM!!
p.s. the cheifs? hahahaha and yes the cheifs are the old Dallas Cowboys. They moved to Kansas City in mid 1960's from Dallas. AMERICAS TEAM so don't act brand new.. rookie!

What the (-)ell the Chiefs used to be in Dallas gotta do with anything? Like I said......I'm a Chiefs fan til death....unlike yall who probably jump ship as soon as ya team does horrible. I hate the Cowboys for the simple fact that everyone jumped on they bandwagon during they superbowl runs. I've seen whole lotta folks jump on they bandwagon during they superbowl run.....then jump off when they lost Troy, Emmitt, and Irvin, and was sh!!ty......and hop back on when they got T.O. Most Cowboy Fans ain't true fans at heart....only the ones from TX are. And at least you ain't never hear bout the Chiefs bein doped up on steroids.

Ok beanz now I can have some real talk with you. We don't know how to finish a game like we used to. Romo is still suspect to me bruh. He could be a one hit that will make u wonder. He's good but his lack of leadership causes him to be seperated from the aikmans the bradys the peyton mannings ect.. If he becomes a focused leader, well then yall need to write it on up.. of the top. AS FOR U lil bowow. Don't get mad at me becuase ur in love with lil wayne and u are cursed an identity issue. Get a name lolololol

Im sorry but this draft is horrible. First off you didnt even draft a 4th CB which everyone has stated we need even with ball and that oglesby guy from jac. And i could see why you woldnt if we do obtain pacman bt in that case we wouldnt put another first into a CB cuz that would kill the salary cap and also stunt the rookies growth. If we get pacman look for the 2nd/3rd rounder to be a cb. And kelly? Really? Ill pass. Id take charles but would far prefer the kid from ECU like you said or maybe we trade out of the first with the 28th then up back up in the 2nd and grab felix jones. Rice isnt the type of back you want to complement barber with.

Being a lonestar-er myself, I couldn't agree more with ya seldom. Romo hasn't learned how to lead and finish yet. But then again we have such high expectations after watching Staubach and Aikman do it for years. And even tho Romo has been in league a few years, this was only his first "full" season. Very, very, few QB's ever made it to the SB in the 1st 5years they started (including PM). The guy has talent, he'll develope and be a leader. And as for SLEEZY and BEANZER, they just hate NOT having a winner and are just jealous. Simple minds, say senseless ####.

I have to disagree with you guys who say that Romo hasn't learned how to lead. What are you basing that on? Two playoff games? Let me remind you that it was Tony Romo who led the comeback drive against the seahawks before he fumbled the snap. Showed some pretty good leadership. Let me remind you that Tony's receivers were clearly not themselves against the Giants. But let's not forget how he led his team to the top of the NFC East. Showed some incredible leadership skills in quite a few huge games this last year! Tony Romo is performing at a higher level at this point in his career than Tom Brady was...sorry it's true! Romo will be even better this year!

If Dallas is losing romo's demeanor is terrible. He will sit on the side line with his hat on and he will say nathan. The brady's starbauchs' bret's aikmans and peytons are in everyones face. They are telling their players to quit tripp'n cuz we are not out of it. If u feel that u are out of it.. well then don't go on to the field with me. If your heart pumps koolaid don't go on the field with me. Man up offense. Man up defense. etc... but romo sits and says nothing.. unless we are winning. I like romo, but I never understood why parcells would say that he hasn't arrived yet.. after not finishing certain games last year... i get it. It takes alot to be the qb of AMERICAS TEAM.. ohyeah al lil waynes girfriend weezy..ur still garbage cuz u and ur boyfirend have the same name... in a minute

seldomseenus,

I wouldn't neccesarily say that Troy Aikman was the type of quarterback who was "in your face." He certainly was a great leader. Aikman was pretty much a guy who was standing on the sideline routing for the defense to get a stop. What games are you talking about that Romo didn't finish? He finished 13 of them! When Parcells said that Romo hasn't arrived, that was the year He took over for Bledsoe. If you were to ask Parcells now, he would say something different. If Romo doesn't fumble the snap against Seattle then you would probably say something different. You would say He has the leadership ability to lead his team in a playoff game down the field for the winning field goal. Was John Elway a player who couldn't finish for all those years until he won the big one? Of course not. He just finally got a great running game! Ask Romo's teammates, and they will tell you what kind of a leader he is!

Let me also add that Romo's demeaner is not poor when the Cowboys are loosing. Romo has had those games where he has struggled and that is when you have seen him disappointed in "himself" from time to time. I've seen Peyton disappointed in himself when he has thrown an interception. I've even seen the great Tom Brady sulking on the bench when things don't go well. Romo's ability to come back from some bad plays and keep his head up has been incredible and is the reason why He is a great leader! That's Right I said it!

Just I feel what ur saying.. but some of those wins were wins that the other team ran out of time. He did lead us in some come backs, but when the team looks for a leader they look for ellis, and alot of the times t.o. in a minute

I'm ready for some football also. The time of year that I really hate is when the last game of the NBA finals is over. Basketball is a distant second when it comes to FOOTBALL. Amercia's past time is not baseball in any way shape form or fashion. Football is America's past time. And ofcourse the DALLAS COWBOYS ARE AND WILL ALWAYS BE AMERCIA"S TEAM. It's all about that LONE STAR STATE SO GET IT STRAIGHT. In a minute.
