UPDATED: NASCAR took 10 engines last night from the Nationwide Series cars back to their R&D center to put them on the dyno!
3 Toyotas, 3 Chevys, 2 Dodges and 2 Fords.
Toyota engines were taken from the Joe Gibbs Racing cars of Kyle Busch (the race winner) and Tony Stewart and Braun Racing’s Brian Vickers.
Bowyer’s was one of three Chevrolet engines taken by NASCAR. The other two were JR Motorsports’ Brad Keselowski and CJM Racing’s Jason Keller.
NASCAR also took two Ford engines – from Roush Fenway Racing’s Matt Kenseth and Greg Biffle – as well as Dodge engines from Chip Ganassi Racing’s Dario Franchitti and Gillett Evernham Motorsports’ Elliott Sadler.
IF they release the results we will know once and for all what the HP numbers really are. Will they take engines tommorrow too? Sprint and NNS run differant engines, so logically they should take some sprint engines too.
Does that mean if Toyota does have a HP advantage but are within NASCARS specs they should take something away from them to level the playing field? Or will they share what they find with the other manufacturers and tell them to get busy? Chevy already has the R07 engine which is reported to put out 850 HP (Which by the way JGR was working on before the switch) and J Johnson won his championship with. Dodge has a NEW engine available for Gillette later this year.
IMHO it doesn't seem fair to take anything away from Toyota if they are within NASCARS specs. So what would be fair?
It seems that NASCAR is getting something from having Toyota win all these races. The big arguments that toyota fans are running with these days is that their engines are legal, and even if toyota is somehow backing these toyota teams more then other mfg companies, well good for them; Ford, Dodge and Chevy just need to figure it out and get busy. Well guess what; atleast in the cup series other non Toyota teams found something in the yawing of the rear which was legal that were suposadly giving them the edge. What did NASCAR do? They said it cost too much money in parts and R&D and it would drive up the cost for other teams with not as much money to be competitive. So what did they do? They changed the rules. Is it about the cost or is it about Toyota not having the big advantage; because if its about cost NASCAR should be saying the same thing about toyota engines. So what would be fair you ask? Well its too late to be fair now don't you think.
Rusty wallace should be banned from TV. He owns a NNS Chevy team. He went out of his way to insinuate that Toyota was cheating to get more HP, and that they should be penalized. Just because he's a cheap #### who doesn't want to spend his wmoney to catch up.
He kept saying that he had a 'piece of paper' that showed Toyota with 22 more HP. Well, show the friggin paper on TV Wallace. Or at least tell us where you got this alledged 'paper'. He was a #### when he drove, and he's still a ####.
Its not a matter of cheating, Toyotas are within Nascars rules. If it does come out that Toyota does have 22hp more than the others then yes they do have an advantage but its not cheating. But to limit or push other teams to spend their money on just engine packages is ridiculous. I mean, they were freaking out about how Carl Edwards car was set up in the rear and that it was giving him so much of an advantage, so much of an advantage that they told everybody they couldn't do it anymore. Was it legal? It was; now its not. Why allow one to have an advantage because it deals with a powertrain and one not to have an advantage because it deal with handling? I don't get it. Can somebody help me out with that?
Crusty made sure we knew what he had. "I have in front of me a sheet with the horsepower results. It says here that Toyota has 22 more horsepower" says Crusty on TV. Yea Hana thoughts like that should not be made by a broadcaster. I am glad Nascar is testing. I also will be glad when Toyota is found to be within the rules. JGR told Toyota what they wanted. They wanted to work on the engines. Toyota last year had crate motors. See what h appens when engineers get good stuff.
Elad - I know what you look like. Im glad you decided to show yourself now I can put a face with the blog.
I didn't hear about this thanks for keeping us in the loop and I wonder what the results will be and I agree they should take some sprint engines to those are their best engines .
Great info thanks and "Cheers"

jacliff...Edwards wasn't the only car with that setup. Kyle Busch (Toyota) won at Darlington with his car way offset. Sam Hornish and Kasey Kahne (Dodges) both had great runs in Charlotte with their cars like that. NASCAR didn't take an advantage away from one make of car. They took it away from all of them.
And even though Edwards was the only one without his oil cooler lid attached, they took that away from every team also.
pop...Rusty owns a Chevy team. He can't be impartial. He's bad enough on TV without playing favorites like he did last night.
elad, I heard an interview today with the Nationwide crew chief for Kyle Busch. That man said it is the 3rd and maybe even 4th time this has been done. He also said that he saw and heard what Rusty Wallace said. The crew chief said that "...apparently Rusty got a new printer and had to print himself a sheet." I thought that was funny. He said that NASCAR hasn't given them any info from the tests yet. Just wanted to share this tidbit.
Sorry I've been gone so long, had a little plumbing problem to take care of, but all is well now.
jacliff - I thought that the teams always pushed the limits and maybe a little over the limits if no one was looking. Some of the biggest names in NASCAR history got caught at one time or another including the King. NASCAR did set a 'Limit' on the 'yaw' because the cars were getting pushed further and further out to the right and they could barly get them on the scales. So they told ALL teams they had crossed the line and set a limit. Sounds fair to me. When they interviewed the other drivers NO one implied that Toyota was cheating, they all said that the Toyota teams seemed to have it together and it was their job to catch up. (the drivers words not mine) I think the new Chevy R07 is as powerful but they aren't running it - mileage and reliability concerns - but they won't resolve those concerns while they are in the crate.
Han, thanks for the visit. Rusty is spending all his money repairing all the cars Steven wrecks.
I personally can't wait till they take Rusty out of the booth. Man it just hurts when Steven, Kenny and Mike are all in the race, WELCOME to the WALLACE SHOW, forget who is leading or working their way through the field, we are going to tell you how the Wallace boys are doing in the back of the field.
JW, thanks now you all know how old I am! lol
They were interviewing some of the drivers before the race last night and I think it was Biffle that said JGR had their act together and it was their responsibility to get theirs in order.
JW & Photogr - I think they should check the sprint engines on the dyno too and post the results. But lets test engines from every team and post them! Some want to hate for those who are out there doing what they are there to do, win races - legally. Cheers back at ya bro.
Kristen - Thanks, old man sittin.lol
I doubt if they will have results tonight, they said they would be taking them to their R&D department. I think it's hickory, north carolina? and they are in Chicago so probably not until sometime next week.
Han & Pop - I don't know what Crusty had in front of him, but if he has it show it or shutup.
If it was a official NASCAR sheet why wasn't he calling 'Them' out for not putting the info out? If it isn't a NASCAR sheet where did it come from and where/how did 'they' get it? Just the facts please Rusty.
Thanks Vol - If NASCAR has done this 3 or 4 times before I'm sure that has to imply that they are legal. Also sure some want to belive NASCAR knows they are cheating and they are condoning it because ... "It seems that NASCAR is getting something from having Toyota win all these races."
elad, LOL, think about it. If NASCAR takes away from Toyota, then Chevy wins it all. If NASCAR doesn't take "it" away from Toyota and gives to Ford and Dodge, then who has the edge? I sure wouldn't want to be the NASCAR officials right now. That being said, I don't think horsepower means all that much. You've got to have the set up, the personnel, and the driver for the entire package. I've been wrong before though!
Vol, Like Han said on his RSO, they whine that NASCAR has made the cars like IROC all the same, but if someone figures something out that gives them an advantage then they want them made equal. My, my, my oh what would we do if we didn't have something to complain about. lol
No I don't think they should take anything away from them, ESPECIALLY if they're within NASCAR's specs. How could they punish someone for following the rules? I recall 2 seasons where a very well dominating Hendrick Motorsports won 2 Championships back to back, and nothing at all was said. (Besides about Chad Knaus, but we all know he's a cheater anyway lol)
I just came across this article from the Charlotte Observer
Dodge engine progressing
Dodge officials said their work on a new engine for the Sprint Cup series is on schedule and they hope to see some used at tracks before the end of the season. "We're in the middle of running durability trials and performance tests as we speak. For the most part, we remain on schedule, hopefully getting it on-line near the end of this calendar year and full implementation in the 2009 season," said Tommy Wheeler, engineering services director for Gillett Evernham Motorsports. Wheeler said he hoped to see the engine on track this season, but there was difficulty in changing the current engine with the new one on a week-to-week basis. -- Charlotte Observer
JOLIET, Ill. – NASCAR officials took 10 engines from Nationwide Series cars amid clamor from non-Toyota teams claiming they need help engine-wise to compete with the Toyotas.
It was the third time this year that NASCAR has taken engines for evaluation. It did so at Atlanta in March and Milwaukee three weeks ago.
Toyota has won 14 races in the series this year, while Chevrolet has won four and Ford has won two.
“We’re continuing our study on our competitive analysis and trying to balance the competition in the garage, which we’re kind of tasked to do,” Nationwide Series Director Joe Balash said following the Dollar General 300 at Chicagoland Speedway. “There’s a lot of rumor in the garage where things are at, and that’s why we want to make sure that we get the actual data.”
Dan Deeringhoff, crew chief for series points leader Clint Bowyer of Richard Childress Racing, said he believes the non-Toyota teams need help.
“Hopefully they are trying to come with what’s fairest for the series,” Deeringhoff said. “Toyota has got a definite advantage, but they’ve got a lot newer pieces [in their newer engines] than the American manufacturers have.
“The peak number is maybe 20 [horsepower] but I think the average is quite a bit more than what we’ve got.”
Bowyer’s was one of three Chevrolet engines taken by NASCAR. The other two were JR Motorsports’ Brad Keselowski and CJM Racing’s Jason Keller.
Toyota engines were taken from the Joe Gibbs Racing cars of Kyle Busch (the race winner) and Tony Stewart and Braun Racing’s Brian Vickers.
cont: If you come by the garage area after happy hour, you’ll see a strong correlation between the guys that are complaining the most about horsepower and the guys that are going home earliest [after practice],” said JGR crew chief Dave Rogers, whose No. 20 team has won nine races this year. “The guys that are on TV ranting and raving about horsepower, they put a car cover over their car a half-hour after practice [ends], go home and they’re the first ones through tech.
“You’ve got to work on these race cars. Toyota definitely has a good engine package. [JGR’s] Mark Cronquist, in my opinion, has always been the best engine builder in the recent history here. But you’ve got to work on these cars.”
Among the possible things NASCAR could do is change the spacer that limits air flow in the engine. NASCAR began using the spacer this year.
Balash said it would take about three or four days for NASCAR to run all the engines on its engine dynamometers.
“We have a lot of things that are available to us,” Balash said. “Based upon where the numbers shake out is what we would select. [Changing] spacers is one of the options. There’s three or four different ways you can use spacers.
“But we have to get to the numbers first and see what’s before we would even speculate what we would do, if we would do anything.”
elad64, break it down for me please. What is your honest take from what you just posted above? I'll go first, I think everyone just needs to work harder with their setups and what they are doing in the garage. Am I wrong here? It WILL NOT hurt my feelings if you say I am wrong. I am not the sensitive type of woman.LOL
Vol, it seems to me that Dodge and Chevy already have their new engines in the works and are just waiting to start using them. Now what will they say if they get theirs going right and they wind up with a HP advantage? Will they want NASCAR to level the playing field then? Me thinks NOT!
Clint Boyer was very vocal last night saying you could put a #### in the 20 car and they would win. I've got a couple drivers in mind I would love to put in that 20 car and see if they could run any better than their normal 30 something! lol
JOLIET, Ill. – NASCAR confiscated the brake calipers from the Roush Fenway Racing car of Carl Edwards following the Nationwide Series Dollar General 300 Friday night at Chicagoland Speedway.
The calipers were not on NASCAR's list of approved parts, a NASCAR spokesman said late Friday night. Edwards finished 16th.
Guys, and any gals, this is just like listening to my Daddy's post-race "discussions" of what he observed and of all the people here, Hanahan is the most like him! Two weeks before Daddy died, he was sitting in his hospital room, fussing because he had missed the BUD SHOOTOUT! I MISS MY DADDY!

Well, in my opinion as long as Toyota is working within the specs in which NASCAR gave them. They should leave it alone. But as we all know by now they have made Toyota change their spacers on the engine. To take away about 15 hps.
I am a male who is a life long Ohio State football fan. (GO BUCKS) and a NASCAR fan. I like the Cleveland Browns so I know the agony of defeat but they are still my boys. A huge JGR fan going back to Bobby Labonte - 18 Interstate Batteries, Tony Stewart - 20 Home Depot, Denny Hamlin - 11 FedEx and now Kyle Bush - 18 M&Ms.

I am getting older and I guess more opinionated too. But I am always willing to listen to others ideas and hear other opinions. Promise I will not personally attack, berate or hate because of differing opinions even if you are wrong. 8-) We can always agree to disagree without making it personal.
