I'm sure you all have noticed how the COT cars are dog tracking. They are kicking the rear end out to the right to help the COT turn and get some side downforce. You give these guys a grey area in the rules book and they will take advantage of it. It's been like that from the begining. It's why the engineers and crew chiefs lay awake at night thinking of ways to get a advantage. That's what they get the big bucks for isn't it? I don't think it is cheating unless they are bending the rules. Besides, is it cheating if you don't get caught? Surely I jest, HeHe! What do you think?
Do you think NASCAR is going to address this soon? All of the fox commentators were talking about it Saturday night and they said NASCAR is looking at it. Probably be a new rule with a limit on how far out they they can kick the rear end.
They won't be able to do that on the road courses, have to turn both ways.
Good questions, dale. The cars aren't fitting on the scales properly now because all 4 wheels aren't aligned. I think this is where NASCAR will try to correct this innovation. Something like, the contact patch on all 4 tires must be within a designated area on the scales.
Yep, I agree with Hanahan, they will likely come down on this using the contact pads on the scales BUT Nascar just might give all the teams this advantage and change their scales if it makes the car more racy on 1.5 milers...I kinda like the "yawed out" look, you can see the paint jobs down the side better...LOL
Expect NASCAR to tell Sprint Cup teams that they've gone far enough - and in some cases, too far - with making crooked cars. Sprint Cup Series director John Darby said Saturday that teams will get a memo, likely this week, telling them to "clean up" the way they're turning their wheels to help the cars handle better.
"They need some of that, but there are some of them that have pushed it," Darby said.
The rear wheels on some of the cars were turned to the point that some were having difficulty being pushed onto the scales used in inspection.
Thanks guys, Thats where I was leaning, that they will set a maximum amount. I remember a couple years ago when Tony won a race and he said he would give zippy the car when he retired because it was so twisted and out of shape when they pulled it out of the hauler BUT was still legal and passed inspection. (It looked like a toy car that had been gripped at each end and twisted - but man could it hang right down on the white line) but it was only good for that size track.
I thought originally NASCAR said to save the teams money they wanted the COT to be able to run at every track with the same specs and not have special cars for each type of track. ie: short track, medium, road and super seeedway. It will be interesting to see what they do. Appreciate your thoughts.
Well, I keep saying this over and over - Get rid of the bump stops and let the teams go back to being innovative with the rear springs and shock mounts. This is all about driver comfort in the corner an it looks like we still have an aero problem similar to the previous car. Shocks and Springs can allow teams to use variability of each driver's skill set.
TO get the car to turn better would be using an old trick that was out lawed years ago.
Shorten the wheelbase lenght on the left side over the right side by placing the front A arms farther back on the left side. That makes the car turn much easier but NASCAR stopped that years ago. I would imagine the current set up will also be out lawed soon too.
If you have ever driven a car on the roads that was dog legging you will know what I am talking about. Rather difficult to keep straight.
AHH..Playing fetch with the dog "Track"ing. They are trying to bend rules were rules are bendable. When Jeff Gordon and Ray Everham were a team. They did it all the time here. The greay rules be came black and white after the allstar race. This is a TEST sesion worth a million.
TY lori for filling us in.
Actually, it's called a cant, which is a horse term for the back legs work independently from the front. Horses grow up pulling with the front legs instead of pushing with the rear legs. It's up to a horse trainer to teach the horse to use the cant to gather himself. In other words, to drive from behind. That way all the front legs are for is for steering. All the momentum comes from the rear legs, thus you use the"cant" to help the horse turn the corners. I can see how this works on a car the same way it works on a horse. You get the rear pushing into the corner which frees up the front end for steering.

I am a male who is a life long Ohio State football fan. (GO BUCKS) and a NASCAR fan. I like the Cleveland Browns so I know the agony of defeat but they are still my boys. A huge JGR fan going back to Bobby Labonte - 18 Interstate Batteries, Tony Stewart - 20 Home Depot, Denny Hamlin - 11 FedEx and now Kyle Bush - 18 M&Ms.

I am getting older and I guess more opinionated too. But I am always willing to listen to others ideas and hear other opinions. Promise I will not personally attack, berate or hate because of differing opinions even if you are wrong. 8-) We can always agree to disagree without making it personal.
