Postdate on those matches, the day of my son's birth:
Germany versus Argentina, 1-1, 4-2 in penalty kicks
and later
Italy versus Ukraine, 3-0
Dos vedanya comrades of the great steppes!
My soccer headlines don't get much attention, plus my articles about the games aren't that sports related anyway...
But there is some big personal blogger news!
My wife gave birth today (June 30, 2006) to a baby boy at 1:33 PM EST.
This is our first male of three children. He weighed in at 8 lbs., five oz.
21 inches long. Prediction: someday he will light up a high school court. We don't know in what capacity (hopefully not just the school mascot, or streaking across mid-court), but this is his now declared destiny, I bequeath it!
He is in the NICU (Neo-Natal Isolation place) for special oxygen hook ups. His breathing has been labored and he may either have extra liquid in his lungs or possibly has an infection that affects his respiratory system.
If you believe in prayers, we appreciate any good thoughts.
If you don't believe in the power of faith and prayers, we thank you for any good thoughts or wishes.
I am happy that the Clinch name will live on! Hopefully.
The future of blogging may continue past me, but more likely in the form of my oldest, the five year old wunderkind and Princess, Journay Elsa. Watch out TJW118! You have been forewarned!
All right, peace and love and let's all drive responsibly!
I appreciate all your support in any form rendered, especially $. HA! Just kidding, but not really, but we are fat and happy.
Salaam...
Poppa Clinch
PS: More on the naming later... And Italy and Germany moving on...
Edmund is his first name. My name is Edward, and we wanted something linked but more original. Also, I am a lifelong C.S. Lewis fan. This name was big in the Chronicles of Narnia...
You are a brother blogger and that means a lot to me.
His second name is Tillman. Can you guess why I picked that? I may go post at length about it sometime. Ever since that former NFL players's death, I considerd it a high honor to have a son with that name...
Thank you Miracle. He is our third child, first son.
His second middle name (and then finally my surname, Clinch) is Waleed. This is the name of my best friend from college. He is Pakistani and a "life brother" and the name is popular among Muslims.
Ed I have two of my own. Little boy that’s three, and our little girl is 2. We adopted the little girl from Ekaterinburg Russia last year. I think my wife and I, and anyone else that has kids, would agree that the most wonderful day of our lives was the day our son was born. You my friend have had that blessed experience three times. Congratulations!
Miracle
oh and by the way clinch. great job encouraging a guy who makes statements like these.

Jun 30, 2006 | 6:54AM | report this This past week I attended a Double-A baseball game. What stood out most was the fat-#### fans. I mean pelts of blubber. And wearing tight clothing no less. I think they buy the smallest size clothing that they can possibly fit into, and that makes them think they aren't so huge. And all it does is exagerate the hugeness.
And they are lined up at the concession stands like jersey heifers. To purchase WAY overpriced food. Then they stagger back to their seats and start hollering at the ump.
Is this the freedom our soldiers are fighting for? It almost makes you root for the terrorists.
Congrats Ed, I am somewhat mystified that you didn't name your first son Hootie. Oh well, you can save that name for your next boy. Congrats again and God Bless!
here's another gem of yours clinch. so it's ok to be deragatory towards italians and fattys. is that what i'm supposed to take away from all this? i only ask because everyone knows your are the moral authority here in the fox blogosphere...

12:20 PM Blow me away, this is funny wop guinea loving good!
Ooops. Epithets aren't good, but some slurs are acceptable if you are drunk with laughter...
And please don't delete this. That offends me more, too!
Your getting on the right track.
I am no perfect moral example, because I can sling innuendo and an ethnic joke around...but I think there are limits.
"Wop" and "guinea" can be very offensive if you used abusively, but within the context I had hoped that most audiences would not be offended, especially Italian-Americans, Italians, Guineans or anybody else honestly slurred by such epithets.
I don't think I used any offensive language by the overweight terminolgy of "grossly obese". That is standard and proper fair for the condition.
While my questionable use of the two words of Italians was risky and interpreted as hypocritical by you, Mr. DoodleHen, I in all honestly harbor no illwill nor prejudice to anyone of Italian origin or heritage. I married such a person, even, which doesn't need to be said to assure you of my intentions with these sarcastic comments.
As for the people deemed "fat", my tacit disapproval of mean or offensive language was not brought up in that case, but I do think it pretty rude in most cases to refer to people of serious corpulence as pjorative or hurtful/hateful names...

If you find me a "disclaimer private eye" and a morally intentioned blogger, I thank you.
That is what motivates me sometimes to make comments, and what I think comments are for...
Just like some editors or co-writers...Colleagues, if you will.
So please consider my explanation and even my apologies if I have truly offended, slighted, slandered or discriminated unfairly.
I aim to play fair, talk straight and to the point (not always, depending on the mood and humor), and to give my honest yet sometimes ambiguous opinions and comments.
So forgive me my slips and hypocrisies if that is how you really read my stuff.
And please try to read my posts and feel free to comment thereon; I have and will do likewise with you oh gentle blogger.
good to know that i'm getting on the right track clinch. maybe if i continue to work hard one day i can earn your full approval. it would really mean alot to me. you'll have to let me know what the limits are when it comes to slangin' innuendo, and epithets. how am i supposed to play by the rules when i don't know what the rules are.
i am of sicilian decent. you wanna call me wop feel free, dego whatever. see your opinion means nothing to me. i don't know you, and you don't know me. i'm just glad that you have enough self awareness to realize that you are being hypocritical. i encourage you to take your little back handed jabs at me. it's cool. but the "do as i say not as i do" attitude aint working.
Hi Ed, congratulations on the birth of your son, and here's hoping his medical problems are already behind him but if not, I'll gladly say a prayer for him....and whether he ever lights up a basketball court or not, here's to a son who will make you proud....
Yeah, I was thinking basketball when I wrote that, too. But then again, a lot of things can "light up" a basketball court, including dancing and singing..
Halfbaked: Thank you very much for the kind and thoughtful words...
XRooster: Again, I'm sorry if you feel threatened or slighted by my comments. That is not my intention.
"Judge not, lest ye be judged" is a true command in the scriptures from a person I take very seriously and try to comprehend the interpretations of carefully. Thank you for the citation of it.
And it goes with a lot more commands and advice, so thanks for the reminder. We should all not judge or condemn when we have no right to do so.
I used "Yankee" as an example of a word that can be used two ways: Positively or negatively. There is a difference and it is really hard at times to tell the difference, that is for sure.
So based on the "thou shalt not judge" concept, let me say that we as bloggers and believers are free to critique, right?
I chose to criticize your use of the reference to Japanese people, because to me it comes across as pretty harsh and a slur.
I normally would never use "wop" or "guinea" for Italians, but when it is perfectly understood that I don't mean it in a bad way, but somehow showing that all people have their offensive names and they are rather banal to use commonly. Like how Yankee has been used on me and our country in a negative light...
And yes, you have a good point: we should not be hypocritical and overly judgmental.
I misread or misinterpreted how you used "Jap", so I apologize. That is cool that you have Japanese heritage in your family so much. You should be proud. And you should also be proud of your Sicilian ancestry. No offense meant in the least.
And finally, I, for one, do care what you and many others think of me as a person and a blogger.
But that's just me, and part of what motivates my writing.
I will pray for your new baby son. I wish you all the very best that this world has to offer. And more! I hope that he grows to be a great big star in this world, at whatever he puts his mind to.
And I have been reading your soccer posts, but I do not have anything to say, so I do not comment. Sorry! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for your comments, it helps me think anout things better, and that is yet another reason why I love blogging so much.
I do care what people think of mte and my writing, but I try not to be afraid for standing up or being heard when it comes to what I think is proper or wrong.
You may think me a big hypocrite for being like that, and that is your free perogative. (Redundant?)
I know I can be wrong on many things, and I admit I am no perfect person; I err more than most folk.
I also believe in repentance and forgiveness, so please forgive me if that matters to you.
I hope you understand my sincerity despite the rather arbitrary coldness of this medium.
Ambivalence? maybe that describes a bit of blogging, too.
I like (am obsessed with) the big US sports of football, basketball and baseball. And I love how they expand globally. I am fascinated by World Cup soccer, Olympics and certain tennis matches.
Oh, yeah, and I will talk your ear off when it comes to religion, politics, right, wrong, demography, history and truth.
Blog on and blog it.
Uh, also I have a Foxsports blog called papaclinch'si t and that was the original, and this was created as a mistake and then a parallel world for more spiritual topics on occasion. More BYU here, more IU over there...
Make sense? I love both schools with an odd type of crazed loyalty... Hard to explain. Thus the blogging.
Keeps me out of trouble, maybe?
