O's in Southern California
Aug 05, 2008 | 11:23PM | report this
Living in beautiful southern California, I rarely get to see my Orioles play. I was able to catch a road trip in May the O's took to Anaheim, and I saw a rare O's win against the Angels. Tonight, I'm watching the O's take on the Angels again.

Chris Waters, a guy who's bounced around in the minors for 9 years, just pitched a 1 hit shutout against the best team in baseball. This guy only got called up because the O's first choice, Hayden Penn, got hit with a bat shard before being called up. Hopefully Waters can stretch out a few more gems and help the O's in their season long pursuit of mediocrity

Last night, our unfortunately unused deadline Trade Bait George Sherrill walked in the winning run. Tonight, still sporting his money retro 'stache, he closed out a win. It was good to see the hat flip salute the team gave George after the save.

Peter Angelos' goal this year is evident in the official Orioles motto, "The 2008 Baltimore Orioles: Stumbling towards .500."

It was great, however, to see an excellent performance by my team tonight. Waters did an amazing job, and it was great to hear the Angels announcers Rex Hudler and Steve Physioc falling over themselves to praise the 27 year old making his major league debut. My favorite part was when Physioc quoted Sun writer Peter Schmuck who said, "throwing Sarfate, Waters, and Olson against the Angels is like taking a poodle to Michael Vick's house." Rex and Steve conceded that "the poodle is tearing up the pit bull right now."

Glad I was able to see a rare bright spot for the O's pitching staff this year. The O's have had 10 straight losing seasons, and hopefully they'll break that streak this year. Although the O's have lacked power and wins over that stretch, they're second only to the New York Yankees in current or former players listed in the Mitchell Report. Hopefully new GM Andy Macphail and skipper Dave Trembley can steer us in the right direction.

Hey man, I know how you feel... I was born in Baltimore and grew up in Virginia Beach, VA, but now live here in Southern California (Orange Cty) and I am a diehard O's and Skins fan as well.

I love the Angels and Dodgers, but the O's will always be my team. On the games I have gone to, I have no problem cheering for the O's in Angel Stadium. Just like I had no problem cheering for my Skins when they played San Diego out here in 2001.

It's good to see another O's / Skins fan living out west! The Orioles are obviously not going to make the postseason this year, let's just hope the Skins can.

Could be worse, man. Your team could have depleted their farm system in trading for Erik Bedard, who is always injured and has zero intention of resigning with your team.

Not to mention the O's lit us up this season. I think the M's are 1-7 against them.

I'm glad we were able to get so much for Bedard and for Tejada. It possibly will put us into our first non losing season in 10 years. Of course, it doesn't nearly make up for the Glenn Davis trade back in 1990, when we gave up Curt Shilling, Pete Harnisch and Steve Finley for a guy who got in a bar fight, broke his jaw, and didn't even finish the first half of the season for us. I feel your pain Seattle fan, but pretend this season is multiplied by 10! Maybe the O's can turn it around one of these days if we can get an owner who is committed to helping us win.

I'm far more confident about the Skins this year. Good to see a fellow Orioles/Skins fan out west! It kills me that I live in Oxnard, and I live less than 5 miles from the Cowboys training camp. I'm hoping the Skins can shut up all these west coast Cowboy fans I'm surrounded by...
