EPL prediction game/six week point totals
Oct 05, 2008 | 10:44AM | report this

Here are participating posters' point totals in the prediction game.  This is an accumulated total covering the first six weeks.

Vandervaart23 slipped out of the top slot following a spectacular run by LondonHammers.  This is probably his sole consolation today following an ugly West Ham loss at Upton park.

We are roughly one fifth of the way through the season so there are a lot of opportunities for top pickers to make their way into the "big four" positions.

I want to point out that in addition to offering a team jersey to any ten out of ten gameweek predictor, Nick Webster has graciously offered to give a team jersey of your choice to the top three finishers in the prediction game at the season's end.  Thank you Nick Webster!

I hope that inspires our top posters to spitshine the crystal ball.  I look forward to your participation and as always may the best predictors win!! (Please note that I do not qualify to try to win a team jersey).

EPL gameweek seven Predictions
Oct 02, 2008 | 3:53PM | report this

Ok, Gameweek seven predictions are due.  As we sit here, Keane is telling his boys to do anything short of murder to take Arsenal out of their rythm.  Will it work?  Chelsea and ManUtd both play tough opponents and arguably ManUtd's game away may be a bit more difficult.  Meanwhile Liverpool will not collect points easily at City.

Here we go:

Sunderland 2    Arsenal 3

West Brom 1    Fulham 0

Wigan 1   Middlesbrough 1

 Blackburn 0    Man Utd 1

West Ham 2    Bolton 1

Chelsea 2    Aston Villa 1

Man City 2    Liverpool 1

Portsmouth 2    Stoke 0

Tottenham 1    Hull 2

Everton 3    Newcastle 1

Good luck and as always may the best teams win!

Gameweek 6 EPL Prediction Results
Sep 30, 2008 | 4:45PM | report this

Ok, ladies and gentlemen, the Gameweek six English Premier League prediction results are in. A season high sixty three posters gave their picks this round. Other than LondonHammers’ outstanding six good scorelines, our results weren’t all that spectacular. Yet, they weren’t horrible either.

Surprisingly, the most difficult prediction was not the Arsenal loss to Hull at the Emitrates. Five posters actually called that one (YankshirePud, FFCDuex, roonalvezha, rudyreds and ryanm75). Rather, the WBA win over Boro was the most surprising. Only Severnstoke3 predicted that outcome. The easiest pick was the ManUtd victory over Bolton. Rudyreds was the only posters to miss it. In his defence, I would add that he readily admitted he went overboard on picking upsets. The second easiest prediction was the Chelsea win at Stoke. Five posters swung and missed there (Rudyreds, nickpyll, MANUTD28, FFCDuex and 3lions9).

Our top posters were LondonHammers, VillaFan99, livebird9 and yours truly; each with seven good picks. The worst posters were FFCDuex, RedDragonDevil, roonalvezha, lesClayppool, blacsmith21, anti-madrista and MANUTD28; each with only three correct results. Nick Webster came in at mid-table with five correct results and one good scoreline.

Here are your individual results followed by your weekly point totals:

English Premier League Gameweek 5 prediction results
Sep 25, 2008 | 8:09PM | report this

Ok, boy s and girls the round five prediction results are in.  A decent outing by the group this time around.

The "big" game between Chelsea and ManUtd ended in a 1-1 draw with CanisLupus providing the following pregame analysis:

oil company #1 v struggling investment firm 1-1
i would not be surprised to see manu nick this one. in fact i'll give them a 40% chance of doing so, but more likely the honors will finish even. if you're a manu fan, you want ronaldo back but you don't want mikel anywhere near him! how good is that ankle anyway?
why won't chelsea win, you ask? manu need this more than they do. and i think both teams would be more afraid of losing than they will be committed to winning.

ManCity provided unexpected excitement with their six goals against Pompey in league play then promptly lost to a division one side in the Carling Cup.  The Zola era began at West Ham with a convincing 3-1 win against rudderless Newcastle.  Liverpool couldn't buy a goal at Stoke while Arsenal were dominant in their 3-1 win at Bolton.  Spurs have begun their 2008 campaign much like they did their 2007 season...at the bottom of the league.

Our top predictor this week was LondonHammers who had eight correct results and three good scorelines.  On his heels were Panzerballack, Severnstoke1 and SempreManUtd with seven good picks each.  We had eight posters with only three good picks (kleekster81, bze_chelsea, jaybxnyc, Whitehartlane10, bonmot, SunnyWarpaint, VanderVaart23 and diosesdel10).  Our celebrity participant, Nick Webster, had four good predictions and no good scorelines.

The easiest pick was the Arsenal win over Bolton.  Only FFCDuex, MANUTD28 and WhiteHartLane10 got that one wrong.  The next easiest prediction was the Villa win over WBA with only five posters missing it.  The most difficult prediction was the draw between Liverpool and Stoke.  Only five posters (Starsenal, Severnstoke1, redevil83, Bridgewarrior and RedSmoke a.k.a. CelticSmoke) got it right.  The next most difficult pick was the Hull/Everton draw (21% of posters).

EPL Round 4 prediction results
Sep 19, 2008 | 8:58PM | report this

Round 4 prediction results are in.  Another tough week if you are trying to make money at this...unless you are a bookie.

Fifty four posters gave us their picks this week.  Our top predictor this round was BridgeWarrior with seven good picks.  We had six poster with six good ones(panzerBallack, Blacksmith21, YankshirePud, SunnyWarPaint, VillaFan99 and yours truly).  Bridge also had the most good scorelines with three.  Two posters scraped the bottom this week with only one good pick each, namely FFC Duex and WhiteHartlane10 (I'm not saying weed is a factor in these, I'm just saying.....).

The most difficult pick was WBA beating West Ham.  Only three posters called that one (boxbox, blacksmith21 and yiddo9).  The easiest prediction to make was the Arsenal win over Blackburn...forty two posters got it right.  Only four posters predicted the Hull victory over Newcastle with both yiddo 9 and LondonHammers predicting the correct scoreline as well.  Our celebrity predictor, Nick Webster, had another tough week with only three good picks.

ABOUT ME

daFootballs
I was given my first ball when I was three. I have been playing ever since. I played on youth teams in Europe. When I was eight, I won my local Bobby Charlton competition. I played high school and college in the USA. I played in two NCAA tournaments. Today, I play in local leagues both indoors and outdoors. All four of my kids play, in our local top flights and one in college. I started coaching when I was in highschool. Now, I have been coaching for 24 years. I love the game more than I do any one particular team. In my youth I started following the EPL(not called the EPL then but the English top flight). I support English teams when playing in Europe. I support American players in the EPL. I support the USA in the World Cup. Every year the MLS is becoming more enjoyable.
