There has been a disturbing trend lately here in the hood. The influx of soccer---I won't call it football---blogs. There is a window on FOX blogs main page for soccer blogs. Why am I seeing so many soccer posts under the NFL category then? That category is for a real sport. Not something that fourth grade girls do during reccess. I remember back in the 70s when soccer was to be the next big thing. Yeah, so was the decimal system, and I've drank thousands of mililiters of beer waiting on both.
This past year David 'has been' Beckham was going to turn the U.S. on to soccer. Once again America sniffed and said "eh." Is soccer even on a major, english speaking, cable TV channel? Poker, bull riding, bass fishing are all on multiple networks. I don't see any posts from these major sports clogging up the NFL category though. Just soccer.
Save your breath, don't tell me that it's the most popular sport in the world. BFD. You know why? Because it doesn't cost any money to play. Anyone from a deodorant intolerant Frenchman to a North Korean dictator can get up a soccer game. All they need is a realitively mine free patch of dirt, and a goat's head or a camel bladder for the ball. We citizens of the USA like scoring and being scored on. Any game that has a goalie ---you to hockey---doesn't have enough scoring to keep us entertained. Unlike Akbar, Yin, and Kunta we have other entertainment options.
I'm putting this in the NFL category so all you soccer posters will get the message
I not only agree with what you've said about the soccer crew, but to anyone else who posts non American Football articles on the NFL portion of this site. It's a bunch of BS! If their blogs are worth reading people will find them and comment... If no comments when posting a MLB, NBA, NASCAR or whatever article in the correct areas that oughta tell you something... Quit trying to get attention by posting in the NFL area.
I posted an article on the Super Bowl last night and it got shoved off the posting area by several other types of non-NFL posts almost immediately... I know it won't change anything but maybe I'll feel better by ranting...
Soccer has a posting area, keep your soccer posts over there!
Thanks countryjag!

Ah yes, Fox is doing its best to be internationally sound.
My cable package includes the Fox Soccer Channel.
Most of the Brit Premiere League games are replayed.
As your avatar shows, soccer will never overtake f'ball here.
Dwindy........you said it Brudah. I've noticed that some bloggers list the same 3 or 4 categories no matter what their post is about. I just started blogging, so I'm still trying to learn the unwritten rules myself.
I've also noticed a couple of bloggers will post two or three scribbles in a row in the same category. Usually knocking someone like you off just to get their so called comedy on there.
How about it fellow bloggers...are there any unwritten rules?
i was with you at beckham, soccer, stinkin frenchmen, korean dictators, BUT HOCKEY? hockey? come on jag. teeth stuck in the ice, heads smashed against plexiglass, i like it..
blue.....maybe I shouldn't have thrown hockey in with soccer. Hockey would be my first choice between watching that, gouging my eyes out, or watching soccer.
Personally, I would throw in hockey with soccer. Sorry BO. Here's why. If it is an important game (US in the olympics, Stanley Cup finals with the Kings or the Ducks, World cup with US team, etc...), I will check it out and even appreciate the skill it takes to play at that level. However, I must admit that I am not compelled to search out a soccer or hocky game to watch. I have paid to see a hockey game in person, it was a lot of fun. I don't think I would ever pay to watch soccer. Taht would be one difference I see.
Back to the topic, I would agree that if soccer is so great, why do we need to put it in the NFL heading? Wouldn't it get readers from the soccer heading?

bolt; "i would throw hockey with soccer" "sorryb@o " THEN we say, "if its the olympics, the stanley cup, i payed to see a game and it was fun" bb: your not a good hockey hater? now if you said, " throw eli in with soccer"
at least we all hate soccer and the french during war time
BB.........I agree on the soccer vs hockey, I think. I went over to FOX blogs soccer site. Plenty of room over there for soccer fans. They even have this post up over there. No comments from soccer fans yet though.
I'm not really a soccer or hockey hater. I don't hate any sport (maybe syncronized swimming). There are just some sports that don't get me excited. For me, even Nascar falls into that category. I know there are people who will choke on their pork rinds after reading that, but it's just not for me. Again, I don't hate it, I just don't follow it. Also, I wouldn't want it plopped in the NFL list.
Marty, don't apologize. EVERYONE puts "NFL" as the category of their posts in order to get them read.
That a few patently ignorant, red-neck dolts choose to display their xenophobic rants against soccer and anything else foreign to them shouldn't be a surprise. How the #$*@ else do you explain George W. Bush being elected TWICE?
You don't have to like soccer. Although I DO like it, I understand how it doesn't tickle the sensibilities of others (including the morons who only feel better by belittling others, ... well, I guess that includes me - I enjoy belittling morons - it's a vicious circular #### cycle).
There seems to be a plethora of xenophobia on the boards lately - both here and (not surprisingly) in the NASCAR section. I chalk it up to a realization that we will have a new President, almost certainly one who embraces cultural differences vs. bombing them. Or maybe it's just a post-holiday release of pent-up intolerance.
dave: i hate to get political on a sports blog BUT, you, being a soccer/futbol fan should remember better than anyone what happened to the iraqi soccer team when they brought home silver instead of gold, ankles smashed with sledge hammers, tendons cut to cripple them? hardly a question of cultural difference, more like humanity v.s. inhumanity.
They are called "headers" and I'm sure I've had more than my share.
You have correctly pointed out what I believe to be soccer's glaring flaw - "diving". I don't mind the lack of scoring at all - so long as the individual and team skills and contact are top-flight. The different cultural behaviors are a strength, even our persistence in using British terminology for the game over here in the States.
And mentioning the treatment of the Iraqi's by their dictator-led "training team" hardly captures the whole of soccer - any more than Bobby Knights verbal ankle smashes and spiritual tendon cuts illustrate the worth of basketball in the U.S. (although have you ever seen Bobby and Saddam in the same room at the same time? - - didn't think so ...).
dave; sorry' but i wasnt trying to capture the whole of soccer, i was trying to capture your thought that were merly bombing because of cultural difference,
or at least thats the way i interpereted that sentence. bobby & saddam? yeah, ok!
Marty......wasn't talking about you specifically. The people I was referring to have not commented, and probably won't.
I write most of my blogs tongue in cheek. I hope I don't have to start adding those moronic smiley faces at the end of each sentence.
I really don't care who posts where. I was just trying to needle the soccer fans, and get some feedback from them. I guess it would have been beneath them to comment.

The game originated in the country of my birth. Played it too in high school along with rugby. Much of what you predetermine as to the rules emanated from ruby which came about by way of soccer. But the reason why it won't take off here within the professional level. Is that until the national teams garners any semblance of success it won't happen.
And also the hierarchy of the sport are of the belief that throwing money to lure stars that are at the end of their careers'll help. If nothing it's the opposite as the talent level here isn't that great.
Al.....Thanks for the comment. To each his own I guess. You grew up with it as your national sport. So you understand all the nuances of the sport. I'm too old to invest that much time to 'get' soccer.
As far as overpaying old stars, wasn't that being done 30 some years ago too? Pele?

Overpaid in what way ? His country(Brazil) won the most prestigious team tournament in the world three time with him being onits team . He won wherever he played professionally. The problem being here was that it was organized by businessmen who hadn't the faintest idea as to how to market the game to the masses.
They've still no idea as to what it is that they're ultimately trying to achieve.
I know that sports more than anything else is a money making enterprise. But it's also got to be about the fans , the communities and above all its presentation as a product on and off the field. When they comprehend that then perhaps it'll garner the success here it deserves.
I'd rather watch that than seeing guys prance around in sequinned outfits telling me that they're taking part in an athletic endeavor. Ice skating ? Gimme' mud wrestling instead with two hot babes !
I'd take that over ice skating any day of the week.

Pele' past his prime was way more than anything Beckham'll ever hope to achieve in his career. He wasn't even the best player on his team when in Madrid. And whilst in the UK though brilliant. He was never really much of a leader for the United team. He was just one of assemby of players produced by Ferguson at Utd. The US is looking a photo genic personality that can sell the game to the public here. 'cause sure as hell the likes of Landon Donovan can't resonate with 'em. He's got the personality of a friggin' snail. And when you've got someone like Adu who's a prodigious talent. But feels that he's better than advertized then the sport has every reason to believe that it won't catch on in the minds of the public.
