A few days ago the Chicago Bulls defied all odds and won the NBA Draft Lottery. As a Bulls fan, I’m not going to lie, I was pretty excited. The talent gap between the 9th pick and the 1st pick in the NBA draft is much bigger than most sports. The Bulls are now guaranteed a star, but the question now becomes which player should Chicago choose? The only two options are Memphis point guard Derrick Rose or Kansas State forward Michael Beasley. While most people think Rose should be the pick, I want Beasley.
There are a couple of reasons why Beasley should head to Chicago.
1. All Bulls fans know we need a big guy that can score with his back to the basket. They’ve drafted a number of good guards since the Michael Jordan left and they still haven’t made it past the first round of the playoffs. It’s time to build around a post player.
2. They already have depth at point guard. Kirk Hinrich (who is very overrated) and Chris Duhon (who is very underrated) are already on the roster.
3. Beasley is the better player. Most experts felt the same way the entire regular season. Beasley had multiple games of 30 points and 20 rebounds. He was the Big 12 player of the year as a freshman. Rose came into the picture late because had a pretty good NCAA tournament. For some reason people forget about the season and focus on two or three games in the tournament.
4. I understand that Rose is from Chicago and it’s better for public relations that the Bulls draft the native son. I don’t believe that theory. I’m from Chicago, why don’t the Bulls draft me? Beasley is the better player and fills a bigger need. SO DRAFT MICHAEL BEASLEY.
A few other thoughts.
-I’m going with J.J. Henry and Anthony Kim to win at Colonial this week.
-Josh Hamilton is still really good.
-Since the Hornets (my choice to win the NBA title) lost to the Spurs, I’ve suddenly jumped on the Lakers bandwagon. I’m also ready to start following the Celtics after San Antonio beats L.A.
-I watched National Championship between Ohio State and LSU again. The Buckeyes should have won the game. OSU had more total yards, 4 personal fouls and a roughing the kicker penalty that costs them the game. The Buckeye played their worst game of the year while LSU played one of their best.
