NFL Postseason Picks
Nov 22, 2007 | 7:45AM | report this

My picks for the postseason:

AFC North Winner: Steelers - The Browns are the only challenger, but unfortunately for them they lost the tye-breaker.

AFC South Winner: Colts - I still say they can beat their Division foes.  The word is that most of the hurt offensive players will be back after the Falcons game, which is really good news as their remaining schedule is packed with good defensive teams.

AFC East Winner: Pats - This one doesn't really need an explanation.

AFC West Winner: Broncos - I just can't trust the Bolts of Chiefs right now.  Sure, the Broncos suffered some really bad losses this season, but the Cheifs are really ####ed up, and Shanahan is such a better coach than Norv Turner.

Wild Cards: Jags, Browns - I love the Browns this year.  I think they can easily go 4-2 the rest of the season.  I also love the Jags.  At the beginning of the year it looked like both of the wild card spots would be AFC South teams.  However, the Texans may be too far behind (from all of those injuries), and the Titans are going backwards.  Remember, last year Garrard was Vince Young-like.  He could only win with his legs, not his arm.  Now he's transformed into one of the most efficient QB's in the game.  Are you taking notes Vince?

I think the Jags also go 4-2 the rest of the way.

NFC North Winner: Packers - This team has the best record of any Favre-led team before.  How much fun is that?

NFC South Winner: Bucs - Can you trust the Saints' D right now?  How about the Panthers' O?  Or Bobby Petrino period?  It's almost a shame that someone from this divistion has to go to the postseason.

NFC East Winner: Cowboys - The Offense is great, but let's talk about the D.  Wade Phillips is the current 3-4 NFL mastermind.  He is proving that the Defensive scheme is just as important as the talent you own.  The Chargers were beastly last year, lost almost no one in the offseason, and now are a joke.  The Cowboys were talked about as being a great group of youngsters, but played vanilla under Parcells.  Now they're holding down the fort.

NFC West Winner: Seahawks - It's sometimes hard to trust the Hawks, and I should know because I've been following them for 4 or 5 years.  They never win when you want them to... but they always seem to grasp the division.  There's one reason why I trust them this year, and that's because they seem ready to put the offense in the arms of the vastly underrated Hasselbeck.

Wild Cards: Giants, Cards - The Giants are an easy pick.  I don't think they'll collapse like in previous years.  They seem focused and ready to prove people wrong.  Now, the Cards.  This race is down to them, the Redskins, Eagles, and Lions.  The Lions and Eagles have really hard schedules down the stretch, while the Cards is much easier.  I feel like the Redskins are the biggest threat, but their point differential right now suggests that they should be at least 4-6, not 5-5.

It doesn't make sense to me.  You have a great 1-2 RB threat.  Jason Campbell has looked so good.  You've got a great tight end, and good receivers.  A supposed Offensive genius, and the ultimat trick play guy in Randel-El.  This is a coaching problem, and it'll keep them from the postseason.

Jason "on the money" Whitlock

Excellent article by Jason Whitlock today.</a>

I've always enjoyed Jason's articles.  I think he's an honest straight shooter.  He doesn't foam at the mouth for hype crazed stars, and he tells it like it is.

3 additions to what I read:

Endzone celebrations are not the problem

Yes, Ocho Cinco and LJ have attitude problems that disrupt their teams.  They have outrageous egos, but who doesn't in that league?  I simply think these two have attitude problems, but the celebrations aren't hurting their teams.

When Chad and Steve Smith waged a miny war two years ago about who could come up with the best celebrations each weekend, the Bengals won their division and the Panthers made it to the NFC Championship game.  Also that season Shaun Alexander planned celebrations with Best Damn Sports Show each week.

It's all about attitude.  Smith is fiesty, but he would never take a swing at a head coach.  Shaun gets pissy when he's taken out o####ame, but he understands why, and would never scream at Holmgren for not giving him the rock.

Johnson is a phenominal athlete, but his antics on the sideline and in the locker room are what will hurt his team.  Also, in comparrison, LJ's celebration is merely jumping up and throwing the Jay-Z sign.  It's no more entertaining than a chest bump.  His celebration or "hip hop attitude" isn't what hurts his team, it's that he's a money hungry brat.

Andy Reid shouldn't have come back this season

Any man who would rather coach a sport than tend to his family is not a real man.

His family needs him, and he's coaching.  It's a job that takes all of your time, and it isn't a significantly important job.  He isn't curing cancer or ending poverty.  He's attempting to entertain fans.

I'm married and an entertainer.  Family comes first.

The Pro Bowl should stay after the Super Bowl

I don't really have much of an opinion on where the Pro Bowl should be played.  However, something that wasn't touched on was the timing.

Goodell wants it the week before the Super Bowl.

That week is there so that the two Super Bowl teams are completely rested and healthy, and it makes the game better.  Mark my words, the pro bowl players from the two super bowl teams will not play in the pro bowl if it is chaned to the week before.

And why should they?  Not only will it wear them out when they want to be rested, they will risk getting hurt in a pointless game only 7 days before the biggest games in their lives.

Does this make sense to anyone else?

Musings 10/24... AFC breakdown
Oct 24, 2007 | 11:00AM | report this

AFC North:
 - The Bills are finally admitting that they're sticking with the young guy. Duh, Hall of Famers have Hall of Fame names (J.P Lost, man, doesn't cut it), and HOF QB's don't look like gomers.
 - The Dolpins score 21 in the 4th and shut down the Pats running game? I say don't believe this anit-hype, they will win a game this season.
 - The Patriots are starting to remind me of the Colts of old.  Brady has to score a ton out of the gate so that he can stay ahead of his ####ed up defense and running game.
 - Also, I know everyone has a #### for Tom Brady, but I don't.  It's mostly because there is too much hype here.  The Foxsports pregame guys were gushing about how Brady doesn't care about stats.  Yes, Brady may say that in the post game interview, but he's damn human being too! If he breaks Peyton's record, he will be extatic, who wouldn't be?  Six touchdowns wasn't necessary... He and Big Bill care about stats like everyone else.  How else to explain twice throwing a seemingly uncatchable pass to Moss in double coverage in the end zone? To help move the chains? No, for TD's!  If Brett Farve had made that throw, they'd say he's a loose canon, if Peyton did it, they'd say he got impatient.  Brayd does it, and he's a genius who doesn't care about TD's?
 - I have a stronger arm than Chad Pennington.

AFC North:
 - In a short moment of wisdom a few weeks ago Tiki Barber said something that is sooo true: The Ravens defense is not scary anymore.  I found it puzzling that they lost one of their best defenders, and all of a sudden they became a sleeper Super Bowl Pick.
 - I don't think it's the hip hop culture that makes Chad Johnson (and LJ) distractions, it's that they're whiny brats that get payed more than me to play games.
 - Remember Brady Quinn?  My neither.
 - My wife came to the realization the other day that she can no longer hate the Steelers, because they're just so dumb.
 - More on the Steelers, they spent so much time talking about how they could beat the Colts and Pats, they got beat by a 2-3 team.

AFC South:
 - I actually feel a little sorry for Houston.  They're team is by far the best it's ever been, and injuries will more than keep them out of the postseason.
 - Speaking of the Pats looking like the Colts of old, don't the Colts look like the Pats of old?  Peyton is only having to throw a handful of touchdowns, the running game is pounding, and the defense is, wait for it, their best unit!  Also, Brady never had the best recievers, and Peyton has been winning without his future HOF buddy Marvin.  What does this mean? How about the Colts winning in two weeks...
 - Jacksonville is tough, but they need to give the Colts respect.  Yes, you ran over them last year.  You weren't alone, and this isn't last year.  After being destroyed at home Chester Taylor thought that the Colts weren't really that much improved from last season... is he high?
 - The Titans won without Vince Young.  That might be because he's overrated.  I loved him in college, but the man needs to grow up AND learn how to throw.

AFC West:
 - I had a funny feeling about the Denver game.  They were shelacked by the Colts and the Chargers, not two bad teams to lose to.  Unfortunately they're in the same boat as Houston.
 - How is KC winning games?  Herm Edwards calls plays from the 1904 Harvard playbook.
 - It is apparent with how he's helping Brady, Moss may have been a huge factor in Daunte being a Pro-Bowler.  Cus now, he stinks.  Let's see that young guy who can throw a ball a half mile.
 - So, the Chargers spank a injured and realing Broncos two weeks ago and all of a sudden they're back at the top of everyone's Power Rankings?  This team is still coached by a man who's claim to recent fame is teaching Alex Smith how to throw the football.  Wild card at best, a third first game loss in four years.
