This is just gonna be a pure rant. Some nutjob called up the MJH(A hell of a show by McNeil, Jurkovic and Teinowitz) show in Chicago and exploded on the radio, and i cant tell you how right he is. The Chicago Cubs suck, their culture sucks and everything else about them sucks. There is something about the Cubs that changes people, for the worse. Lou Piniella, one of baseballs most notorious hotheads, blows up once. And then after his team gets swept in one of the most disgusting playoff performances in baseball history, Piniella shrugs it off and says "This is just the beginning," which is just a different, more elegant way to say "wait till next year." Kiss my #### Lou Piniella. The guy's brain has turned into oatmeal. No manager in all of baseball could botch a double switch like Lou does.
Jim Hendry is a whole different animal. With the Cubs in the thick of a playoff race and on the verge of their first post-bartman playoff appearance, he acquires Steve Trachsel. Steve #### Trachsel. Is Jim Hendry retarded? Bring back a guy that blows like Trachs does for a playoff race? His cracked out minor league scouts and developers havent churned out a good position player in the last decade. Every decent offensive player on that team didnt originate with the Cubs. Jim Hendry can go to hell.
Now to the players. Carlos Zambrano is a freakin nutjob. He drives the Cubs best offensive catcher in the last 15 years out of town. After Barrett was shipped out Zambrano played great and it started to look like Barrett was the problem. Uhh.... no. Zambrano went back to the BB Era(Before Barrett) and pitched like a schoolgirl when the Cubs needed him most. But at least this kid showed up in the playoffs. The same cant be said for pussied like Derrek Lee, Ryan theriot, Mark Derosa, Aramis Ramirez, Alfonso Soriano, just to name a few. Geovany Soto, a chubby rookie in the playoffs for the first time did more damage than Lee, Soriano and Ramirez combined. Thats pathetic.
Derrek Lee sucked. Not just in the playoffs, but in the entire second half. then, after the Cubs go through one of their patented losing streaks, he gets upset at the fans for booping Zambrano. Derrek Lee should eat horseshit. Aramis Ramirez couldnt get one #### hit in the entire series. He gets an extension in the offseason and rewards the team with that??? The guy blows, and losing some weight couldnt hurt either. Same goes for that stupid looking mustache.
This brings me to the most frustrating player since Corey Patterson burst onto the scene, Alfonso soriano. I hope on the first play next season, a fly ball gets hit to him and when does that retarded hop skip to catch the ball, he comes down with a broken ankle. I would sever my own pinkie toe if Jim Hendry got rid of this guy. He looks like he hasnt played baseball ever before. Go back to Japan you douchebag.
I am sick of Cubs fans slobbering over that David Eckstein look alike Ryan Theriot. I myself fell in love with him but i have learned better now. How a guy with a .270 BA and 330 OPP becomes a god in Cubs lore is beyond me.
If i see Jacque Jones laugh after striking out again, i a m gonna tick that very bat in his hand you know where. If there is one thing hendry can do, beside for ridding the Cubs of Soriano, it is getting rid of this ####. Seven million for 5 home runs????
The only guy that i wont beat up on is Soto. The Cubs recent failure has shed some light on what the Cubs really are. I figured them out. They never win because they dont want to win. If you want to win, you dont swing at 50 foot curveballs. You dont go 0-12 in your biggest playoff appearance of your career. You dont yell at the fans for booing. You go out and win some #### games. If the Cubs cant win games, then so be it. Go ahead and gimme another 100 years of losing. I dont give a #### anymore. I wanna clean house. Just give away the players, i dont care.
lou piniella a few years ago went into one of his rants and tossed one of the bases, then the next morning had a hell of a time in geting out of bed because he hurt his back, then told his wife something like im getting to old to do that!!! has it stopped him NO!!!!!

I seem to remember someone somewhat berating me when I'd stated that the Cubs were beset with problems. I'd even written the post under the tophatal guise Lou You're Beginning To Make A Believer Out Of Me The Curse Is Still Alive. And lo' and behold your Cubs bit the dust faster than a shovel hits the dust by a gravedigger. Basically sums up the Cubs' whole season doesn't it ?

As a fan of the catAstros, or disAstros, or the gonna-finish-lAstros, I know what it's like to follow a team that is going nowhere fast. Keep your chin up and don't stop being a fan of your team.
Pinella has always been overrated as a manager in my opinion. Zambrano, Soriano, and Lee have been huge and Pinella has done nothing with that team. Should they hire Joe Torre?
Wow. That's harsh. I'm pretty upset with the state of the Cubs myself, but I'm not that angry. I think we just need some newer, savvier people running the team. Don't give up. It is doable. I envy the Marlins. Now there's good management.
I am kind of with this guy, but I will never ever disown my team. I think this years investments were a waste. Soriano wasn't worth the money we spent for him. From some who was a 40/40 man, sure didn't prove it. And I don't know what happened to Derrek Lee, but ever since he came back from his injury. He hasn't been the same! From hitting 46 homeruns in one season to hitting 22. I am glad he is on our team, but he better get his head out of his you know what. And for Ramirez... to go 0 for 12 in a series is unsat! But I don't blame him, because he is not a leader! And he probably had too much pressure on him to lead, when he obviously was not ready for those responsibilities. To me, this is just another disappointing year. Nothing new to us. Althought, I do see some good coming out of this. I do feel this is only a building block and just hope as a cub fan that these pieces will fit in the future.
I dont know if the Cubs can grab the division next year. The Brewers, who didnt even make it, will be back with a vengence. If Gallardo sticks in the rotation, he could end up as the staff ace, even if Sheets stays healthy. The Reds have some really good young players and if they allow Bailey to stick in the bigs, they could have a good front three in the rotation.
That being said, i heard something that gave some hope. One of the frontrunners for gaining ownership of the Cubs has said if he gets the team, he wants Steve Stone as the GM. That would be the best thing that ever happened to the Cubs. The guy is a genious and wont hesitate to make some unorthodox moves.
Perhaps a more astute owner wouldn't be out of the question ? Rumours run abound that Mark Cuban still wants to buy the team. But the problem being is supposedly Jerry Reinsdorf and Selig are against Cuban being an owner of the team. If that's the case then there's no real reason to think that they'll fare any better under the present ownership. I do believe that Cuban would bring something fresh to the table and make the team more vibrant.
Although it seems like the owners club isn't a fan of Mark Cuban, there is one thing that tips the scale in Cuban's favor. The Chicago tribune has a responsibility to give their shareholders as much profit as possible from the sale of their biggest asset, the Chicago Cubs. I highly doubt that any pf the ownership groups vying for the Cubs will submit a higher bid than Cuban and that will put the Tribune and baseball in a pickle. On the one hand, Selig's buddy is the frontrunner right now for the purchase of the Cubs, but the leader of that group, who ironically is a part owner of the Brewers right now, wont be able to oubid Cuban. The sale of the Cubs should come in the next few months, and i hope that either Cuban gets the Cubs, or the group that will give Stony the Gm job gets the team.

What I implicitly dislike about the whole of this is Reinsdorf voicing his opinion. I don't like the fact that even though he's an owner I believe of the White Sox it's certainly not his place to be telling anyone who can or can't be bidding for a major league team. And no doubt he'll try and use his influence to dissuade Selig and the board of governors from quite possibly accepting a bid from Cuban should he decide to make a formal bid. It's completely insane but then again nothing that's done by MLB surprises me amymore. It's being ran by a bunch of old white haired geriatrics whose best days are behind them. Is it any wonder they've been playing second fiddle to the NFL for the last thirty years ?

I was equally irritated by Reinsdorf's interjection. Seems to me like he is afraid of the pressure the White Sox would be under to match the effort of a Cuban management on the North Side. The Sox management and their fans dont like to admit it, but nothing pisses them off more than watching things go well at Sheffield and Addison and they try their hardest to outdo their inter-city opponents.
Owners shouldnt have anything to do with anything that doesnt involve their respective teams. SOunds like a bunch of guys that are scared of another potential Steinbrenner. Instead of trying to filter out managers that would outspend most of the idiotic owners, why not put in a salary cap and then nobody would have to worry about anything. Sounds like owners are focusing on the wrong issues if their issue with Cuban is money related, which i believe it is.

You try explaining that to the antiquated owners and their thinking. It's becoming abundantly clear why it is that baseball is falling the likes of the NFL, NASCAR and to a certain extent even the upstarts from the UFC. They're so backward thing now in almost everything that they do. The need some new P&R as well sales people in there to lead 'em in the right path. But Selig won't have anything to do with that. As he's still reminiscing as if the game is back in its heyday's of the 50's and 60's. That's the inherent problem the game has at present. It's still being and to an extent benign. And will always be ran by a bunch of grey haired old men.Whose better days are behind them and who'd better off seeing their urologist or proctologist about their prostate problems. Bearing in mind also that senility is also setting in amongst them.
Speaking of senility, someone really needs to check out Lou Piniella. Speaking publicly for the first time since their elimination loss to Arizona, he cemented Soriano's hold on the leadoff spot. Either some type of handshake or contractual agreement was reached by Hendry and Soriano or Lou's brain has been reduced to oatmeal. The guy is losing it fast.

And yet we're led to believe that Piniella is some sort baseball genius according to those in the know. Living in C Florida I witnessed the so called genius at work with the Devil Rays. And even though the team wasn't going anywhere. He didn't exactly instill leadership or anything else positive that'd enable the team to be any better at all. He's just an implorable oaf and a bore. Why the hell the Cubs signed him is beyond me. And the same could be said of Baker's signing in Cincinnatti. I don't know that he's the man to improve the Reds.
I am college kid out of chicago and love Chicago sports aka a huge homer. My writing may contradict this, but i do care and know about sports outside of Chicago, although I may never blog about it.
