Come on y'all, leave TO alone.
Oct 12, 2006 | 7:57AM | report this

Plain and simply, i feel bad for Terrell Owens. The guy is not as bad as people make it out to be. With the public attention he garners, if he did anything wrong off the field, it would be front page news on any site or in any paper. But yet, off the field TO seems to be an angel. How could it be that a person that causes no problems off the field and really has had no one complain about his behavior outside of football become such a "cancer", as the experts like to say, once he steps onto the football field?

The answer is that TO is a good guy and a great football player, who is extremely competitive. If any of you play sports a lot, you always come across that one player who is always busting his #### that wants everyone else to do the same, and when people dont, he barks at them and says things that not always should be said. But with TO, everything he does is so scrutinized, that he cant get away with anything. Sometimes you need to yell at people on the sideline in order to shake them up and give them a sense of urgency. (I bet nobody heard about Mike Brown of the Bears screaming at teammates on the sideline this past sunday).

With the intense pressure that Owens has to be the perfect player and teammate, I am surprised he hasnt done worse things. In the end of the day, he is still the most complete wide reciever in football that is off to his worst start in a while, and by the way is still on pace for 1000 yards, and people just assume that it is because he already has brought  problems to the Cowboys and has alienated himself from his teammates. I predict that TO will still have a good season(12-13 hundred yards and 10-14 TD's) and will not get himself suspended from games like in Philly, and will lead the Cowboys to the Playoffs.

Sure there is a lot of T.O. overexposure, but until he learns to shy away from the camera, it'll continue to be more of the same.

Well latest report is that he was on a 45 minute rant after the Philly game, why he didn't get the ball more. Parcells said it was thrown toward Owens' side 13 times, 5 more than the other side. Owens acknowleged that he expected Dallas to change the eideout routine for him as he is a playmaker. I know he is good, but why always call attention to yourself?

Are you kidding me?? T.O. will lead Dallas to the abyss should he continues to blame the QB but himself particularly when not catching the ball on time..He does not have to castrate his teammates in order to reach the playoff..I think T.O. is suffering from a complex of superiority...

While a great talent, T.O. is not a team player. There are dozens of great players that yell and scream. Yes, Mike Brown screams, but he has the RESPECT from his teammates. His screams are motivational. T.O.'s screams were to throw the ball to him. Clearly, on one sideline rant, an amatuer can read his lips saying he is wide open.

Frankly, Parcells has a big enough ego to put up with the likes of Owens. No knock on Tuna intended.

If Owens gets dropped by Dallas, he will find it hard to sign on with another club.

Sadly, the talent he brings doesn't trump the cancer that comes along with the ride.

chitown Undoubtedly TO is a phenomenal talent within the NFL but what grates on people's nerves is his unquenchable craving for the public spotlight. The fact would be fine if he'd actually won something. But to date all he has to his name is the accomplishments and not much else. I doubt that he'll be winning anything this year with the Cowboys as they're in a bit of a tailspin coming of the loss against the Eagles. They were basicallly shown up as a team that's been overhyped by a lot of prognosticators who clearly weren't looking at the big picture. So many of them were so sure that the Eagles would have such a tough time of it this year but that hasn't been the case. They're playing as if they haven't skipped a beat since the loss of Owens.

Nice post.

T.O. is a nice guy. Is he SEEKING the spotlight? No. He doesn't have to.

Will he be a Cowboy next year? Not if Parcells is still in town.

(But I think the Tuna will be long gone by December)

you know, its improbable how seemingly nice people make such completely false statements. i know no one falsifies things on purpose. but lets clear somethings up. TO isnt demanding that the ball is thrown his way every down. he knows he's only good for 10 catches a game, if that. so lets not pretend he always wants the ball every play. TO is calling for the ball to be thrown to him when he is open and in a position to score. you can say the ball was thrown his way 13 times, but thats a lie. well, parcells wasnt lying exactly, but he was trying to explain away his poor gameplan. the fact is that Dallas doesnt utilize its weapons. every ball thrown to Glenn was in the bread basket. only 6 or 7 of the ball thrown to TO were even catchable. that whole 'team player' business is tired, too. its cliche. so he's not a team player, but he's prolly the 2nd or 3rd best run blocking WR in the game. not a team player? he wasnt on the sideline screaming for the ball. he was on the sideline pumping up his team - as stated by nearly 6 different Dallas players. if i were a player and my stupid coach was making bad calls all game - i'd say something too. hell, when i go to an SC game and i see that a team is doing something to us over and over, i secretly wish i had the coaches cell phone. coaches get in ruts. i dont know how, as a professional - you get beaten by the same stupid plays ALL DAMN GAME. could i teach football better than Parcells, prolly not. but i can see that we have blocking issues. maybe i throw in some 3 step drops. maybe i get Drew to get the ball out there quickly.

Parcells made NO adjustments. he knows his Secondary makes horrible reads, but still leaves them out to dry to take bad angles and give up TDs that shoulda been INTs. parcells is so known for running on 3rd down that even Joe Theisman is calling it before the team breaks huddle.

players screaming on the sidelines arent screaming for statistics. they wanna win. they want their coaches to be able to think on the fly and call good plays.

demonicume The problem I have with the Cowboys is how anyone believe that they could be perceived as being the preseason favorites from the NFC. Personally I don't believe they're that good to begin with. Too much hype and very little else of much substance. Far be it for me to say but what are these guys really looking at or is it that they're throwing darts blindfolded against a board with the respective teams as targets.
