Anyone looking at the Whitlock's story and thinking it has anything to do with Sean Taylor, is missing the point. We have a problem in every inner city across America, yet we continue to label people as racist and incensitive when they point out the obvious. Help me understand something; when did stating a fact make anyone a racist??? How did this "victim mentality" become so strong in our community? There are, literally, hundreds of Sean Taylor scenarios across the country every night. BE OURAGED AT THAT!!! Sean Taylor himself said he was afraid his past may come back to get him, and we are upset if someone other than us makes the observation that this may not be a random murder.
Fact: Nearly 7 out of 10 black children born today are born out of wedlock. Fact: More than half the black kids born today grow up in a single family household. Fact: If a black man is murdered today, there is a better than 98% chance he will be murdered by another black man. We have plenty to be upset about, yet we are still marching against our white counterparts as if there is still a "Whites Only" sign on the restaurant doors. We must get some perspective Black People. I understand that the past has a lot to do with the rocky structural foundation the black community stands on. However, our lack of progress in almost every area of society points to a people that has lost sight of the sacrifices many blacks made just a short time ago. Many of us are to quick to use the word racism, forgetting what it was like for kids to walk to school and see a black man hanging from a tree. That was racism! Now if someone looks at us crosseyed, we label them a racist and ask the rest of society to make them go away forever. Wake up! We are on the lowest scales in education, finance, and healthcare. There are people who just got "off the boat", to coin a phrase, that are doing better in those categories than we are. If you won't say it, I will. WE HAVE A PROBLEM IN THE INNER CITY AND WE NEED HELP FIXING IT. If you think things in the inner city are bad now, wait until we finish alienating all the people who want to help us.
In case you were wondering what modern day racism is, just listen to the music from the artists we celebrate today. That same music, calling you every degrading name in the book, all set to a nice beat. Racism is when you listen to that music and dance to it, declaring, "He ain't talkin bout me". Then we want to rally when a white guy, trying to be funny, calls you one of those names. It seems to me the only racist in this instance is the #### holding the "Fire Imus" sign outside the radio station. Do me a favor and get outraged at that!
