Mats Sundins agent JP Barry stated yesterday(July 30) that the teams in persuit of free agent Mats Sundin has gone up. What was only 3 teams has now become 4 or 5.
"4 or 5 teams are really waiting on his decision."
Were Barry's words. As it now stands the teams that i have herd about are:
Montreal, Vancouver, Toronto, New York Rangers, Ottawa, and one of the four possible teams: Pheonix, Edmonton, NY Islanders, and Philly.
Mats has until tomorrow(August 1st) to decide if he wants to resume his playing career
Lots of hand wringing by Leaf media over the Sundin decision/indecision. I've said it before: trust what the guy says. He says that he isn't sure he can go another season. He's been a remarkable athlete over his career. Sundin is also refreshing in that he isn't a big talker a la Tucker and others. The Leafs are FINALLY moving in a good direction: legitimate rebuilding. The players brought in thsi summer are mainly for entertainment, lots of fights, lots of scrums. I suspect that Leaf "suits" wouldn't be too unhappy to finish dead last and get Traveres in the draft next summer. Sundin really doesn't fit into the picture for next season: topo good a player for where the organization's headed short term. Wish him luck elsewhere and say goodbye - he doesn't owe the Leaf organizaiton a thing. He's single handedly carried this team on his shoulders for at least the past 8 or 9 years. Good luck Mats! (I'd look at Montreal)
I still say Mats Sundin will hang them up. I believe he has made up his mind that he is done. I know there are alot of people out there who think am wrong about this, but watch tomorrow and you will see that I am right.
